Jerkin It Out

It's no secret that I'm a fan of the 1960s jerkin, in fact if you search Google images you'll find six pictures of me on the first page alone.

I wear the same two over & over again I thought it might be worth investing in a third just to ring the changes, I'd hate to get stuck in a rut. I spotted this 1960s red leather version on eBay last week and loved it so much I was prepared to go over my usual £10 spending limit.

As the auction was scheduled to end at just after midnight I stuck a snipe in, went to bed and was thrilled to discover I'd won it for £10.31 the following morning. I thought that was a bargain but since I started writing this post I've snapped up another eBay bargain for a mere £2.08.

It gives my favourite maxi dresses a whole new lease of life and it's a far groovier layer of warmth than a cardi.

Red leather jerkin worn with a 1960s Dollyrockers maxi (eBay)

Can you believe that I took today's photos just after lunchtime? It looks like the middle of the night.

  3. This red leather jerkin is so sexy, there is something about red leather, my prom dress was actually red leather :) I do love how you look in these and it totally adds to whatever you pair it with!
Way to go on your ebay deals! I think the UK ebay has much better vintage selection and prices compared to the US. Although... I did just pick up some orange boots with faux fur for $8 :) can't wait to get those.

I love all these pictures of you, dammit woman you are SMOKING in that bikini top TOTAL FRIGGIN BABE!!!!! I also love that catsuit in the top picture, MEOW RAWR!!!!

Such a stylish find, but you always have the most unsual and individual pieces here. Another reason why I'm so fond of your blog. XX

  8. I love your tan jerkins and they always add a certain groovy something to your outfits, but oh Vix! That red leather number is such a beauty!
It goes wonderfully well with your Dollyrockers maxi, but I have no doubt at all it will go beautifully with whatever you choose to wear it over - bikini, catsuit, mini, shorts - anything! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  12. I love the cut of this red leather number. Fitted, but still open at the front - clever. Cardigans are mu guilty pleasure, but I do feel such a frump on them, and really it's only the torso which needs to be kept warm - all those vital organs!
Second-hand shopping means anything over £10 feels like splashing out. A tenner on the high street wouldn't last 5 minutes, I'm always horrified when I see the price of new clothes.
Love how your jerkin fondness means you dominate Google images - that's dedication!

  13. How exciting to dominate the Google images! The jerkins are fabulous. I really must get better at layering; I've always been more of a throw on a dress and go person. I think that comes from the years I tried to fit into the office mold; running late every morning is just the first of many ways it was a fail!

  18. I just found myself a "Three Dog Night" CD remake from the 70's and this look fits right in! I am having flashbacks of Naru jackets, leather fringes and super cool dudes and dudettes. Keep on truckin my friend. -T

  19. It WAS dark and miserable today but not so your jerkin. Love it. What is the difference, though, between a jerkin and a waistcoat? They are looking like one and the same to my untrained eye.

  20. Loving the red jerkin! It really bring a certain something to your dress. What a bargin too!

I have to say being someone who feels the cold easily I do wear cardigans although I hate men them though! Terrible double standard I know! lol.

Sadly, I can well believe those photos were taken at lunchtime as it's not really been daylight here in Essex all day today - it's soooo depressing.

OH AND ON THE DAYLIGHT ASPECT. *uhgggg* It is dark here at 4 p.m. We were trying to get our Christmas lights up at 4:30p.m. in the dark yesterday afternoon. I had to turn on all the indoor lights to help Mr. Coco be able to see. lol

You're gorgeous, as always - and especially love the bikini pic - PPHHHHWWWOOOAAARRRRR!!!!

    Love! Sarah xxx

  38. Hee - there's definitely worse things to be notorious for than jerkins! I love the colour of your new one and it does look nice and cosy too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wasn't it just hideous today? It was so dull I didn't even go out of my office, which is really unlike me because I can't bear to stay inside a whole day. I love your jerkins. You really rock them out, I wouldn't have known what a jerkin was until I started reading you. This red one is a lovely colour, it's almost raspberry red. I think you need more because you really do get tons of wear out of them. xx

  40. I love the fact that 6 first-page google images are of you! I'm going to go in search of a 70s conker colour suede jerkin that I know my mum has squirrelled away somewhere - now that we've seen a collection of the multiple ways you look fab in one.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Whaaa?? I thought these were night photos! That's crazy! They are really creepy cool though. The eery atmosphere makes the vintage outfit even more glamorous. xoxo

  42. I love the print on this dress so much! I'd love to have a 70th mini in this fabric - short bottom and long sleeves))

  44. Hehe, I've never heard the term jerkin before! But I want one. Love the new red one, the button closure is great, although I do adore the tassles on your tan coloured one :) Thanks for your comment on little chomby, those photos have been sitting around for a while, but he is looking very spritely as he continues to get better! I was crouching down, bending forward a little putting hay in his litter tray the other day and he looked at me and then jumped up onto my shoulder! Like a parrot! So cute :) Xoxox

  50. Yes it does look like themiddle of the night, by contrast our sun is so blindingly bright atm I'm putting on sunnies just to hang the washing out and got sunburnt yesterday in 4 minutes flat. So much for keeping out of the sun! 36 degrees of punishment here today, only 85% humidity though!!
