Know the feeling? You've been desperately trawling the charity shops for so long even a 1980s acrylic batwing sweater starts looking attractive. That was me yesterday, seriously losing the will to shop, until I spotted these 1970s suede beauties.
Made in England by Dolcis and priced up at a fabulous £4.99 my heart skipped a beat and my palms broke out in a sweat. Despite them being a size and a half smaller than my usual size they slipped on and zipped up like a dream.
Do you honestly like those? the manager asked in a bemused manner, they've been in the shop for weeks and we all laughed at them when they were donated, we couldn't believe that anyone would want those hideous old things. How I love living in a place where the locals prefer cheap new stuff to cheaper old stuff.
Dumarsel, London 1960s cape dress (£15, Vintage Village @ Clothes Show Live, 2009), Tribal choker bought from a Lamani gypsy in Goa |
According to yesterday's Guardian knee high boots are back. I didn't know they'd been away, there's always been plenty in my cupboard.
A boot fetish? Me?
Hope you're having a brilliant weekend.
I was just about to say those types of boots are in right now. How rude of the manager as well to ask if you honestly liked them! None of his business if you do or not - you could be buying them to throw at stray animals for all they need to care :| Anyway, you look fabulous as always!
ReplyDeleteA fab addition to your collection! I've actually had staff in charity shops offer to GIVE me things as they can't believe I actually want to buy "that old plantpot/plate/glass". I'm a bit like - hmm its a charity shop - are you not trying to make money?!!
ReplyDeleteThe boots are great. I had a pair of suede court shoes in a similar green a few years ago, never worn and I car booted them for pence and instantly regretted it :-(
ReplyDeleteA lady with a boot fetish is a lday after my own heart. Very funny what the manager said. Hah! More fools them - you could probably pay ten times that for nasty acrylic new boots. That shade of green is divine! And very now too with all the jewel shades being touted for winter. I love your cape dress!
ReplyDeleteHow I love living in an area where the locals prefer cheap new stuff to cheaper old stuff.
ReplyDeleteHaha so true! That's the best place to be, otherwise the racks get over-picked five minutes after new items are put on display. What a great find. I can just imagine all the fabulous dresses those forest green boots will go with. And that's true about thrifting. It can be easy to lose one's mojo after three consecutive things you try on smell like mothballs or death. Or both.

oh i love them. i never knew boots were out either. that's like saying air is out. silly experts.
ReplyDeletedon't you love it that what you are looking for in charity shops no one else is?!
i used to hurry to estate sales b/c i was so worried that whatever was great would be gone but i've gotten my best stuff just when they were packing it up and closing.
you look fabo as usual my dear vix.
xo
janet
omg what a bootylicious pair!! i also want some green boots and yours are perfect, oh and i can´t believe what the manager said, he probably should change his prfoession...
ReplyDeletelove and kiss,mary
I love you so...I hate it when people openly mock me to my face...like that sales person did you! I get that all the time...Do you seriously think bright red hair looks good?...ummm...no I did this on purpose so I'd look stupid and get people to look down on me...why do people act so stupid? But...for every dumbass that snubs me I get 10 compliments..so its all good in the end! I love those boots! I think you look amazing in boots because your so lean and pretty! Hearts, Janna Lynn

ReplyDeleteLove the colour and style... Phew, thank gawd you came across them and rescued them - sounds like the shop might have foolishly binned them. Sounds like another era, footwear made in Britain, doesn't it...

Those boots are just perfectly Vix! Well spotted, well snapped up, and who cares if the charity shop manager doesn't get it? I buy and wear things all the time that most of my friends don't get, never mind the staff in the charity shops!
ReplyDeleteLove your frock, the whole outfit is wonderful.
Look at your fabulous boot collection! Doesn't it make you laugh when someone somewhere decides this season's "in" thing is something you always wear?
To thine own style be true - there's a perfect motto for you, Vix! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Vix can I have a dress please? Just one dress. I'm not picky, but the one in the picture above will do just fine. Those tapestry boots on the left are out of this world. I too am a boot fanatic.

What fabulous boots - that manager obviously doesn't know good stuff when he sees it, but that's all to your advantage! I looove my boots too, unfortunately for me I have rather large calves and so find it very hard to get knee lengths that fit them. Luckily found a code for Evans that combined with a 25% off day meant I was recently able to acquire two new pairs.
ReplyDeleteAmazing boots!
ReplyDeleteBootiliscious! :D
ReplyDeleteI bought a pair of knee high biker boots eight years ago. They've been worn to death and are still going strong after aralditing one of the heels back on last year. I never knew that they'd gone out of fashion!x
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious colour! The end.
ReplyDeleteFancy all of the charity shop staff laughing at those boots, it's not like there is even anything odd about them.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous boots Vix, i don't think you can ever have too many pairs..thats what i keep telling myself anyway :) xx
ReplyDeleteHeh I think you may have a teeny boot issue! Love these ones tho, they're an excellent colour. And your dress is gorge! :)
ReplyDeletePerfection as always. The boots are a very flattering style and your boot collection OMG....I rather fancy those floral looking ones. The frock well what can I say.....perfection also and a fav colour of mine.

Vixcita,
ReplyDeleteyou look so bella in this green outfit! what? even I would bought them suede bad ass boots. look at your wondrous collection of boots. I need to get me some boots. I went Charity shopping on Saturday and it was packed of tall grannies, I sneek in and couldnt find anything good.

They're really fabulous - I can't believe the people in the shop thought them hideous! Green suede boots - you'll always be able to wear those beauties :)
ReplyDeleteamazing boots, they are so you! pssssh, the charity shop worker sounds like the majority of them, what does she know!
ReplyDeletexoxo.
Gosh what a fabulous pair of boots, they were destined to be yours Vix. I love your assortment of boots, it’s quite a collection xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat is not to like? Green, suede boots? They rock, I love them and would certainly wear them. Lucky for you though that the locals haven't got your good taste, I couldn't imagine you with the 1980s batwing sweater lol. Xx
ReplyDeleteIt can get a bit soul-destroying when you go in every shop and see the same faded t-shirts and floral blouses. I think this is what the thrill stems from though, finally uncovering some treasure which was waiting for you.
ReplyDeleteThose boots look so modern, some people don't know style even when it's staring them in the face!
Though you have an impressive selection of kinky boots, I can't see a pair which would look better with the dress. Well found, and well deserved!
Haha, you've got to love the sales technique of certain charity shop volunteers! All the better for you though. An excellent addition to the boots wardrobe xx

ReplyDeleteI'm a UK size 5, a US 7. I say this because one day I will visit you and want to try on all your boots. So fantastic!
ReplyDeleteRemarkable to me that anyone would scoff at those boots- they are beautes in my eyes! And stylish- as in (as you said: tall boots are back) even though they never left. That's what I love about fashion-
leopard is back, plaid is back, polka dots are back, maxis are in, knee-high boots are in, and gorgeous jewelry are now called statement pieces.
I don't recall a year however when leopard or its friends were EVER out. But ya know- what ever floats the boat.
You look amazing per usual. I am green with envy. But my envy is full of love! xo. Bella Q
So adoring your boots collection. Seeing you wearing lots of green lately, I´m inspired to style my green items too. :)

Krista
I never knew they were out either...but then again I wear what I like too! These boots are so gorgeous......here the 1960's & 70's clothing are snapped up right away at my local thrift shops & then later sold at consignment boutiques at a higher price of course. This past weekend I spotted a pair of 70's gorgeous grey fringe knew high boots but was 5ft away too late!
ReplyDeleteThey are fantastic boots and my fave colour. I have serious boot envy looking at that amazing collection of yours! M x
ReplyDeleteThey're amazing! Unfortunately for me, due to having abnormally fat calves compared to my skinny feet, boots are my shoe-nemesis! I've given up on even trying to find a decent pair that fits me this year. Doesn't stop me having serious shoe envy of yours though! Emma
