One of the few good things about the long, cold British winter is that I can wear the coats I snapped up in the warmer summer months for next to nothing.
People often ask how I can buy my winter clothes before I know what's going to be in fashion for the coming season. What a dumb question. If I'm wearing clothes I love I couldn't give a toss whether Anna Wintour and her ilk deem them suitably trendy.
If (fake) fur and Native American jewellery is good enough for Cher then it's good enough for me.

Forget fashion, quality clothes are timeless. This coat's got to be over forty years old and it's no less fabulous than it was on the day it was made.

Thanks so much for your comments yesterday, a jerkin is a hip-length, sleeveless jacket and a waistcoat is shorter, finishing at the waist.

I love your fur coat. I agree who cares what is in fashion. It all seems to go round in circles anyway so pretty much anything could be in fashion at any one time. Can't wait to see the mother of maxi dresses!

ReplyDeleteI buy new stuff; I used to only be able to afford jumblies. Then I made my own clothes. So, now I enjoy buying stuff that someone else has made (wherever). I like to nod to fashionable, but what I buy is what I like. Now. Next year. Forever. Which is lucky, as most of what I buy seems to last forever!

Cher's stunning in those photos, but what gets my goat though is when people slag her off for wearing those 'revealing' outfits in the 80s. Bloody hell - the woman looked gorgeous in them so I don't know why she always gets slated. Jealousy I reckon.

I used to have pink hair and the looks I got then you would not believe now Rhianna has her hair pink and its the in thing ,and you would not believe the negative comments I got when I had my nose pierced in '89 .

At our age we should have learned that summer is followed by winter so why not by a fur coat when no one is interested in them. Good West German design :) I've inherited a very similar one from my mum - definitely 40 years old (or more). xxx
