Green's A Beautiful Colour, Ain't It?

...said the bloke with a scorpion tattooed on his face swigging a can of Special Brew as I walked past the law courts at 10am this morning.

I waited for a punchline but none came so I simply nodded in agreement and carried on my merry way, later attracting the attentions of a photographer intent on capturing my every move and a man trying to sell me designer perfume from the depths of his grubby Tesco carrier bag. Never a dull moment.

I'd only planned to pop into town for a square of felt (watch this space, I have a plan) but as it was Wednesday it seemed a crime not to have a gander at the weekly flea market at the same time.

I was pretty restrained.

This hand-carved West German dog has jointed ears and a mad expression. Perfect as a desk tidy.

These 1950s plastic curtains were too bizarre to leave behind. Wouldn't they make a great rain cape?

It was love at first sight when I spotted this 1960s Boots print, Gail by Louis Shabner.
At only £8 it's hard to believe anyone else hadn't snapped her up already.

She'll fit in a treat with the rest of the harem in the lounge ( if I can find any more wall space).

Here's Stephen Squirrel, the cat behind our sleepless Sunday night. If you think cats are languid, elegant creatures you've never met him. He eats scraps meant for birds & foxes, gallops around the garden like a horse and trips up over his own feet. Last weekend he misjudged a wall and banged his neck. He's on antibiotics for an inflamed throat and is a lot more cheerful, but the bump means that he's (temporarily, I hope) lost his voice and for a cat incapable of doing anything without meowing to himself it's eerily quiet round here.

Psychedelic maxi by Jeannie (Georgia May's Vintage Wardrobe), Handkerchief caftan (Made by me using a pattern from Tamera, details HERE), Tribal pendant (Edie Pop)
Whitechapel's on later, we've Rum & coke chilling and to top things off one of my friends has just called round with a bulging suitcase stuffed with 1970s clothes found in his Dad's loft, who says Wednesdays are dull?

See you soon.

  2. Green is a lovely color and I'm wearing it right now! I adore this maxi and that top is killer why I think Cristi should make me one :) I must say that I think this Shabner print is the coolest one I have seen yet! She will make the other girls jealous!

I had no idea your kitty got hurt, I'm so sorry, I hope she feels better soon and I'm sure by the looks of it she is getting spoiled!

What's in the suitcase??!?!!?!? Why does that never happen to me :( Can't wait to hear about what's in it tomorrow!

  6. Well its funny coz I am looking my half painted sideboard in guess what??? GREEN! and wondering if it really is. I had a vision but I am buggered if I can remember it now. I keep saying it will be fine and won't make me sick looking at it. I hope...... watch this space.

That top is a lovely colour and you look fab in it too. Ahh nothing like a can of the hard stuff outside the Courts on a Wednesday morning;0)

Loving the picture she is a stunner and will look wonderful in your harem. Love the dog too so cute!

Oooo suitcase full of clothes. Hope we get a peek at your pickings.

No Wednesday's are not always dull for sure. Have a rum and coke for me too!

  8. I green draped goddess you are indeed !
Green is one of my favs , and a pretty backdrop going on there too.
Love the Boots pic ,she has facial features slightly reminiscence of Audrey Hepburn . Love the essence.

  9. Gail bears a passing resemblance to Liz Taylor. Lovely find. I also like the sparkly silver bag.
I hope Stephen feels better. I understand wild kitties. My Lucy races around the house like a mad thing, and she is supposed to be middle aged in cat years.

  10. Fab top and what a great colour on you! Walsall certainly has some characters, doesn't it? The mind boggles at plastic window curtains, but I'm sure you'll find something clever to do with them! Poor Stephen - he sounds like one in a million!

  20. Scorpion guy was right!

I'm lusting after those plastic drapes (okay, I know I sounds odd!), and you're right about making a cape with them. But if you had enough, wouldn't it be great to make a tent or awning for Gilbert out of them?

Beautiful picture too, I love those exotic women prints. A local shop has got a stunning one in there for display, but wouldn't sell it to me. Boo! xxx

  21. Very glad that Stephen Squirrel is on the mend, he sounds a real character. We used to have a boy cat who was a similar klutz and always getting into trouble, from falling into fires to getting a wire coat hanger stuck in his mouth! Well they do have 9 lives luckily so at least you can rest assured that adorable SS has got lots more to live yet!
That green cape you made for yourself is fabulous, dear Vix, as is the incredible necklace. Green suits you beautifully. Have a lovely Wednesday eve!

  22. The curtains are strange , ive had a craving for fibreglass ones with big sunflowers like my mum had in the 60s. I will keep on hunting..lol

Poor cat i hope he gets better soon
We do love them so much!
Oh and lucky you about the suitcase full of 70s frocks!

  24. O, darling Steven!!!! I think he and Peepers would get along well, she thinks she's a dog, and is out in the rain as I type, galloping about.
Green IS a beautiful colour, and you're wearing it like a nature Goddess! Love the maxi print, love that perfect emerald green of the poncho.
Most excellent scores, the print is INCREDIBLE, and I'm certain you'll find space for her in the harem. The dog is just plain weird, but I reckon those curtains will make an excellent rain cape or flasher mac!!!

As always, you're looking Fabulous! I can't get over how awesome your style and wardrobe is! Good on you for being you! I modelled the Dollyrocker dress for my Dad yesterday - he said "It's a bit sheer" - haha, its like I'm back in 1970's and everythings a bit 'risque'! Bless him!

Please tell me you're going to name your little West German dog, he's so adorable, he deserves a little german name!

Hugs again to Stephen Squirrel! xx

  27. Green sure is a beautiful colour, my favourite of course. It's my firm belief that all other colours (in the right shades of course) go with green......look at nature the flowers and trees.

You look marvellous Hun, and the cape is gloriously wonderful and you know I'm digging the print on the maxi too.

I look forward to seeing your plastic drape rain poncho. X

  28. Green? Yeah, s'pose it's OK... Better than facial tattoos and Special Brew anyway - by many a mile!
You look divine, like a garden goddess (I resisted the impulse to write nymph, in case I added an extra O by mistake. I'm in that kinda mood!) Glorious maxi, and you are truly cool in a kaftan. No wonder the great, the good and the plain old weird of Walsall were ogling and following and taking your photo!
Ooh, nice flea market scores, darling, always a joy to see another gorgeous Shabner lady, isn't she a beauty? Such a cute wee dog with his waggly ears, and I definitely feel a rain cape coming on made from those curtains!
Poor Stephen does look a bit sorry for himself, give him a tickle from me.
Can't wait to see what's in the suitcase! Love you! xxxxx

  36. I don't think I've seen you in a colour that you don't look good in and this green ensemble is no exception. Love the floaty kaftan. Poor old Stephen, these moggies of ours do worry us, hope he finds his meow soon. Gail is a stunner, looks like she should be gracing the cover of a Mills and Boon... maybe not showing that much cleavage tho'.

  39. Green IS a beautiful colour. Gail looks to have green eyes, she seriously is a beauty. I know it was love at first sight for you and I'm smitten too. Can't believe you got her for £8 - that's a steal!

Poor old Stephen Squirrel, he's lost his voice! He looks all snuggly and poorly there. Hope he gets his meow back soon.

As soon as I saw that top I knew! It's the same pattern as the one I used to make a top in sewing at school. I loved it so much, felt pretty cool, so it is really exciting to see yours. It suits you beautifully and looks great in that colour with that maxi too.

What's in the suitcase Vix?! xxxxxxx

  51. Oh, this painting is gorgeous. I am always sad spotting great paintings at the flea market but cannot buy them because I may not put nails into my rented walls :(

Maybe it's good, cause if I had my own house, it would be stuffed with kittens and colorful kitsch from the floor to the ceiling, hihihi

And yes, the guy is right. Green is awesome. And it looks best in combination with dark hair and bronzed skin. Actually, every bright color does... Yeah, brunettes-high five!

Lots of kitschy greetings from Austria,

Poor kitty! Hope he perks up soon - perhaps you need to get him a helmet?

  65. Green is a great colour, the tattooed man was right, and I love those plastic drapes, as weird an idea as they are, I was thinking one would be a good shower curtain, but you would so suit a rain cape made out of one! Poor Stephen Squirrel, I know my cat Sasha is a crazy, she used to attack dogs in her young days. Now she just waits until we're in bed then gets her claws under any door and pulls on it over and over again so it bang against the door frame incredibly loudly, so we have to get up an do her bidding. Gail is a very worthy addition to your collection too. xx
