Monday Is The New Sunday

I'm cheating, yesterday's outfit will have to qualify for joining in with the party over at Patti's Visible Monday.

1960s Young Mayfair by Hershelle chiffon maxi (£12, vintage fair), candy coloured suedette platforms (£5, local boutique), massive hoop earrings (fabularse Helga)

At last weekend's fair one of my sisters-in-vintage pointed out a dress on another stall holder's rail she thought I might like, which I did, but the one tucked away behind it nearly caused me to explode with joy. Seconds later, after a cheeky haggle, it was mine.

Kinky Melon took to the road twice this weekend, firstly to hip Kings Heath in Birmingham where we had a brilliant day. Jon's 1970s cowboy shirt got it's first outing and I'm in a £1.25 House of Lavinia maxi from the Sally Army.

(Laura Mvula's gorgeously summery track is a tribute to Kings Heath.)

Yesterday it was off to Pelsall for a day's trading at their hugely popular vintage fair.

We were so busy I hardly had time to take photos. By the end of the day neither us were capable of stringing together anything more coherent than Pass the rum.

So now my weekend starts. I could finish taking in my Dollyrockers maxi I bought from Maisie's Closet Vintage a couple of weeks ago....

...or tackle the heap of washing erupting from the laundry basket....

...or crack on with the dressmaking project I started last Tuesday.

But sod it, the sun's out and I'm three days suntan behind the rest of the UK so it's a bikini, a good book and a sun lounger in the garden.

Hope you had a fab weekend.
I'm off for a mammoth blog reading catch-up before the sun fully reaches the deck.

See you soon.

  1. Hurrah to that, love! I'm loving seeing how Kinky Melon is getting out and about and how wonderful to meet so many Sisters. Love it!
Pink maxitastic, babe. One of my favourites now, looks amazing on you.
Can't wait to see what has become of the soldier fabric.

  4. Great track by Laura Mvula and what a stunner she is! I'm totally with you, take a day off after your busy weekend and make Monday the new Sunday. I would be sitting on the balcony right now but the roofer has just been to put a non-slip coating on top of the plasti-coat that went on it last week, so it'll have to dry in the glorious sunshine for a fair few hours. I'll be popping to the park later with a crochet blanket and a few bottles of Carling zest, on a day like today it's got to be done, this is the real perk of not working for the man ;)
You and Jon both look awesome tending your stall and I'm sure you were rushed off your feet with such well stocked rails and display tables. I love your geisha style bun-do, very fabulous...xXx

  7. Two stunning frocks, the pink chiffon is just dreamy, and I love the bright green print maxi with the ruffle. Your lovely assistant ain't half bad either!
What a busy weekend you've had, you certainly deserve a lounge in the sunshine. Your stall always looks amazing and inviting, and it's great that the other stall holders become friends - one big happy vintage family!
Stick some washing in (better still, get Jon to do it!) then chill for the rest of the day, sounds ideal! xxx

  25. You certainly do deserve a day or three on the sun lounger after all that exhausting work! My god, two vintage markets in one weekend? What are they putting in the Walsall water? Whatever it is, I need some of its magical powers! You look so fresh and perky in your glorious pink and green and I absolutely love Jon's floral cowboy shirt - I wonder how many people commented on it and wanted to buy it off him? Shove a load in the machine, let it do its business, then you can catch some more sun hanging it out. Sod the indoor stuff, enjoy the longer days! I'm so sorry I haven't been visiting much, I'm slowly making my way back from the Never Never:) xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  40. You most definitely deserve a day in the sun, which I'm sure you're doing in as much style an wonder as you are in those two maxi dresses in this post.

It's wonderful you had a successful time at the fairs, even if it left you exhausted.

Your clothes basket is tiny in comparison to what needs to be caught up in here. Seriously a full grown adult could get lost in what to fold and put away.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Enjoy the sun and I hope that you get nicely brown like me!
The green dress and the pink dress are just beautiful on you and I'm happy to heard that the business is moving along splendid.

  42. HOLY FECKING DELICIOUSNESS!!!
    TWO FROCKS OF GLORIARSE PROPORTIONS!!
I love BOTH these frocks, but the electric pink one is burning my retinas!!! The hair is sheer perfection, darl!
YAY for some grand fairing! It does sound tiring, all that schmoozing and selling, but jeez you seem to make the most fun of it! A few rums are just the ticket after a big day of it!

  43. What Helga said!

You have some utterly gorgeous dresses which just fit you to perfection and they are just too good to be true and I don't have enough superlatives to even start describing them.

I did a bit of a sharp intake of breath to see that beautiful Dollyrockers dress in pieces, but then I relaxed. Hey, by the next time we see it, it will be fabulous again. No stress I.

See this is where I need to learn from you. I'd be doing jobs. Hope you had a wonderfully relaxing day in the sun. xxxxx

  46. Wondering what's going to happen to the Dollyrockers dress now! The chiffon one is just spectacular - I love the colour, not sure that I see you in hot pink often, it reflects the Indian influence in your style! The green maxi is also rather amazing too. Your stall is just growing and growing, there's so much there to look at! I must pop up for a visit soon! Have you topped up your tan yet? xxxx

  49. It was a good day for sunning in a lounger here in the US too!

We very rarely see maxi dresses in thrifts or at the fleas in our part of the country. I am truly envious of what you manage to find.

  50. What a bright and fresh looking maxi! Love your choice of bangles, especially the lavender one.

Good to hear that you did well at the shows this weekend. Your booth always looks so fun and inviting. I totally hear you on the coherency after the show thing. Not that I mind people handing me cash all day on bit, but I can hardly stay awake to eat dinner afterwards when I get home. When I finally go to bed, I feel like I'm slipping down a long, dark rabbit hole.

Your alteration project reminds me of why I learned to sew as a teenager. I got so tired of clothes not fitting that I just started making them myself. Looking forward to seeing you show us that beauty that you have in progress.

Photos of your home and neighborhood always seem so lovely; really enjoy seeing them. Hope you had a restful Monday!

  53. The green dress is lovely, but you look fabulous to the max in pink! The color really suits you!

Thanks for the info about the micro-mosaic jewelry. The prices I saw online were even less than what you quoted, so I guess if I add a little glue to save the pieces from falling out it's not going to affect the little value there is!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yay to sunshine and I definitely think that you have to enjoy it while you can. Love the dress you got from the vintage fair, green is definitely your colour.

  55. Oh Vix! That hair! I love it - also that frock is perfect on you too. I hope you had a lovely time in the sun. Lately I've found it hard to be inspired to do anything in the evenings - but for the opposite reason, its just so DARN cold :P

  56. You do Helen proud in that glorious pink frilly maxi. Add some shimmying and gyrations and you'd be a spitting image. Maybe Liberty's style director will take note :)
Glad you took a well-deserved break. Even with all the fun of chatting with sisters-in-vintage and perusing other stalls, vending is hard work!
