Make It Bun Dem

I've been hankering after a pair of mini bun hairpieces in Beauty Queen Cosmetics ever since I spotted them on Wednesday, that's until I remembered I had hair of my own to play with.

Who? Here's my tribute post from 3 years ago.
My hair needed to be up I could show off my Tania-made masterpiece, a tribute to Helen.

After weeks of sub-zero temperatures today's 11 degrees felt positively tropical. Being a hardcore Northerner I even took my coat off on the walk back from town. Look at me flashing off one of my 2 for £2 bras from Marks and Spencer's clearance rail last week, no shame.

Wednesday's purchases from Second To None were very restrained - I passed on the arse-revealing 1960s swimsuit (as seen on Clare's post yesterday) and a floral jumpsuit - instead grabbing this London-made 1970s Lewis Barnett denim number.

'cos I always need a denim waistcoat.

I couldn't pass up on this groovy 1960s shoulder bag either. The best thing? I traded in a much hated cameo brooch of my Mum's (seen HERE) so I even got money back!

Barry M Cobalt ....day 3 and not a chip to be seen.

It feels so good to be bare-armed again!

1970s denim waistcoat worn with Cranston Print Works cotton maxi (Courtesy of Clare), beads and Helen brooch (made by Tania), neon pink and perspex belt (Xmas present, 2011 from Liz) a heap of second-hand bangles and £5 fake Litas (off the market)

So what's your weekend got in store? Ours involves cheap white rum, pizza, a dinner invite, a jumble sale, a press photo shoot, some craftiness and series two of Mad Dogs

Have a good 'un and see you soon!

  1. Amazing bag! I'm the worst when it comes to bag, I can't look for one. I hit my eyes and either I love it or would never wear it! Amazing that you got to trade for something you didn't like instead of spending money.
I'm also enjoying the weather (walking around Chelmsford and taking off my coat after 30min!), hopefully it will only get better through the weekend! xxx

  2. And we get to see those toned lovely arms again, too! Denim and blue and colorful funky jewelry makes you look all summery, too. I hope that it stays warm (we are expecting snow again here). I just bought a mod dress yesterday and that purse would go beautifully with it :) Amazing vest and love Tania's creations. Have a great weekend.

  5. You and Helen are as gorgeous as each other! That denim waistcoat had you name written all over it and looks fabulous with the maxi from Clare and Tania's crafty creations. And you mini Princess Leia buns too, of course!
The 1960s bag is so rock chick, you had to have it - great trade-in! Denim and a shoulder bag are much more you than a cameo brooch.
Your weekend plans sound excellent. What are you wearing for your photo shoot? Not that I need to worry - I know you'll look amazing! xxxxxx

This is a super funky outfit and your recent purchase at Second to none are to die for!! The vest is just perfect for that beautiful maxi, I like that at first sight they both look made of denim, then you are surprised by the great fabric print and coloured hem!
The bag is stunning too!I don't have any special plans, tonight I'm with the girls at home for dinner, my man is with a bunch of daddies from school but tomorrow I'll visit some friends!
    Have a wonderful weekend!!!

  12. That denim waistcoat looks wonderful on you. I bloody love 'Mad Dogs' and have seen both series 1 and 2 on DVD. I was only wondering yesterday when series 3 will appear on telly.

  13. Sleeveless in a denim waistcoat- being a hardcore Northerner. Well, I am a harcore Vixoner, and I love your bare arms, bright colors and heady mix of everything! Happy weekend to you, dear and hardcore Vix!

  14. Ooooh a photoshoot!! Exciting. Love the buns, they look great. The skirt looks great on you too, so pleased I got that for £3.50! The other fake Litas are great. I was not feeling the warmth, but mostly my hands have been covered in PVA. Have a fantastic weekend! The Second To None bag is really unusual and all waistcoats look good on you!! Xx

  15. My hair is far too stubborn for buns, I adore that shoulder bag - especially the ring detailing running around the edges - very fancy!

  16. Have Vogue finally seen the light?
I can't wait to see you on the cover and if it's not Vogue...HELLO, wake the fuck up Alexandra Shulman, you are missing out!
I'd have to use fake hair in order to replicate your duo-bun-do but your fabulous headful of raven loveliness lends itself to a plethora of fabtastic do's. I've been eyeing up a wig, in one of the shops around the corner but I'm too skint at the moment to splash the cash.
Your new waistcoat is brilliant, I really love that military-esqe pleating to the front, makes me think of Adam Ant.
You look as wonderful and radiant as ever.
My weekend? I've got my Emergency First Response course tomorrow, I hope I'll pass :)
    Loads of love,

  17. You look so darned cute with your little buns and all those lovely colourful accessories. I love the way you have styled the Second to None denim waistcoat, this look is so pretty and feminine. The skirt from Clare is fab and it's so much fun to see you modelling Helen and the beads, especially with that beautiful smile on your face.

Don't blame you on the bare arms. Did you get any comments in town I wonder? Now, is that the new eyeshadow I see making an entrance? xxxx

  18. I love hair knots! I used to do two on top of my head when it was longer, but I would use all my hair because it was so thin.
Great denim vest-- so cool to trade-in the brooch to get your new stuff.
    Love that song/video,
    Becky :)

  19. Great outfit, denim waistcoats look so good on you. How cool that you traded your mums brooch (didn't think so at first but then I read the story) and got something you really like. Love Clare's skirt also and your hair of course.
I've got the weekend off but I'm full of snot so won't be doing much, gardening maybe if the promised sunshine arrives. Enjoy yours.

  20. I am listening to this song as I type, digging it, cranking it~turning up the BASS because I love the BASS. Now the video has me distracted....dude this video is bad ass!!!!! I love the bird coming out of him~ just try and take that house. Native Americas....the first real Americans.

Your little mini buns are so stinking cute and perfectly show off your beautiful creations from Tania. The ribbon bits on your skirt are so so so adorable! You showed great restraint at Junes and I think this denim vest is unique and I'm so happy you snatched it up. That purse is crazy good too, I love all the silver bits!

Your weekend sounds fun and very full too. I hope it stays warm...even though it still sounds freezing to me :) BTW your ass looked hot in the swimsuit shot Clare took, gotta watch her with that camera huh :)

  22. Crazy 11 degrees you say, I'm quite certain if I walked back from town in that temp I'd snap in two. Us Aussies living in Queensland don't do cold well. I'm much like you Vix the old denim vest gets a workout and I'm finding that especially at the moment with this pregnancy. So I'm rather fond of your purchase and might I add your swimsuit shoot from Clare. Honestly woman you're a goddess. Loving the maxi skirt as well and the floral band at the bottom. My weekend well you know I'm hanging for our market. I should be up and at it an hour to get ready, but I think it's going to be touch and go because of the rain. Please Mother Nature please.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Always thought out, although I think you could get dress perfectly in your sleep.

  24. It was quite lovely today wasn't it? Well, apart from the rain. I think spring might actually be on its way. Have a great weekend xx

  25. Love your new goodies, and your "mini buns"! I used to do that when Gwensday was little, and put clip in streaks of Manic Panic through them, she looked so cute! Somewhere I have a pic of her when she was 4 and we took her to CBGB, she was the belle of the ball! (Sorry memory tangent...) I wish this weather would just make up its mind, its chilly and rainy again here today, boo! Happy belated un-wedded bliss! Will try to be around more now that I don't have to do everything with one eye (well most of the time, its bothering me today so this is written half with one eye!) XXX PS your meet up looked like so much fun!

The detail of the floral trim near the hem of your dress is wonderful!!! What a tease just barely flashing that bra from Marks and Spencer. I love your turquoise Barry M Cobalt nailpolish. P.S.: I finally did a lingerie outfit post with retro 50s high waist panties from the Dollhouse vintage collection just now! :)

Enjoy Mad Dogs; series three is on its way, can't wait to see Phillip Glenister again!

  52. I love the Helen brooch Tania made you, and the link to your post about her, what a beautiful and talented lady. Bit like yourself with those cute buns and that gorgeous denim waistcoat Vix. My weekend so far involved a lot more vodka than I intended, and lots of singing along to Queen.
Loved the story of your mum being apoplectic with rage about that brooch. And her buying you Valley of the Dolls when you were eleven. That reminded me of when I was little, sitting in the hairdressers every week while my mum got her hair done, and reading all the serialisations of 'Princess Daisy' and 'Tilly Trotter' in the Woman's Owns they had lying out. I think I got more sex education from them than I did from school. xx

I'm curious to hear more about the 'press photo shoot' and I'm sure you'll enlighten me soon.
