Go Wild In The Country

Fifties fashion? Never wear it. Well except for trips to Asda and roaming the forest, obviously.

Wearing feminine nipped-in waistlines, full skirts and the demure midi length makes me feel such a fraud. I'm clumsy, noisy and stomp around in a way that belies my size but the space-age shoulders and sparkly lamé fabric have meant that I've held on to this jumble sale dress for longer than I intended.

The weather was so windy yesterday I quiffed and sprayed my hair to oblivion to save being blinded by a stray lock and this frock seemed like the perfect accompaniment.

Worn with my trademark neon brights , clumpy platform heels and a pile of bastard jewellery I definitely felt more Vix than a clean-cut 1950s housewife.

Those of a nervous disposition look away now - freaky arm alert.
We're trading at two vintage fairs (HERE and HERE) this weekend.  This was the photo shoot I blogged about doing. Despite being locked out of the venue, Sunday's relentless wind & wind, having to scale a couple of fences and getting lost in the wilds of the Staffordshire countryside they didn't turn out too badly.

I'm linking me and my vintage gang to Patti's Visible Monday.

1950s cocktail dress (jumble sale, 2012) worn with Urban Outfitters belt (present from Liz), a stack of bright jewellery (Including gifts from bloggin' babes Sarah Misfit, TaniaKrista & Helga), £5 candy platforms and a hair flower made by me.

Our weekend was busy but brilliant, hope yours was too. We even managed to get to our first car boot sale of 2013. I'll share my bag of swag with you later!

See you soon.

  1. You look great in 50s fashion, your figure is perfect for it, but I know I hardly ever wear it myself too. I feel much more comfortable in other eras. You all looking great in the line up.

  32. You did the '50's with a Vix twist; that included lots of bastards jewels and those funkylicious platform shoes and ties.
It was definite worth all the troubles to get some pictures like the 3 group ones.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well it might not be your usual shape or length, but the shiny silver fabric, a ton of your trademark jewellery, and the big old platforms means the 50s dress has been totally Vixified!
You look amazing, of course, love your quiff and your freaky arms!
The photo shoot looks great, and yes, it does look as though the bloke next to you in the last shot is pinching your arse. He didn't, did he?!

  45. You look so beautiful in that dress! I love the 70s does 50s look, so much more interesting than real 50s fashion which like you I think tends to be rather prim and drab. Loving that dress on you, and the gorgeous hair do! Hope you enjoyed being feted for your press day, my dear, great pics.

I think you rock it beautifully;it goes to show that you can make any look/era your own with some imagination and personality! I love the forcks, but I reckon you and I would have been hanging with the rockers, as they would have been having much more fun!

  51. You know I'm partial to a Fifties frock and that one is a delight. Despite wearing them myself, I'm not at all graceful...rugby player thighs and have to fight the urge to wear DM's with then all the time!
You own that look and it's been truly Vixified...love it.
Those photos of you all are brilliant.
    Loves ya.

  58. I'm totally blown away by your outfit! Not only is it gorgeous but it brings the 50s back to life! I ought to know because I lived through the 50s (and attended the 1964 World's Fair). Your gorgeous dress brings the Space Age back to life for me. It reminds me of seeing the many of the movies (and TV shows like Flash Gordon) mentioned in the lyrics of the song from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" titled: "Science Fiction Double Feature". If you know me you'd probably not surprised to learn I loved it and watched Rocky Horror in theatres 11 times. I apologize for explaining ad-nauseam and digressing, but old codgers like me do tend to bend one's ear like that (I know that's not a good excuse).

The vintage 50s look of your outfit and hair is perfection! With that gorgeous sparkly silver lamé fabric and 50s style puffy shoulders fabric, you look like you could be queen of a planet having just stepped out of Flash Gordon's space ship! The beautiful hair-flower looks perfect for the Garden of Eden the space ship obviously time-traveled to, and the pink colour (my absolute favourite) of your belt buckle and hosiery contrasts and coordinates perfectly with the lush foliage - are those rhododendrons? You made that hair-flower? You're amazing! It's beautiful!!!
I'm not surprised that you hung on to that dress. It would also be a lovely dress to wear to any high-class gathering (including cocktail parties).

My, you're busy with those vintage fairs! Your crowd looks interesting. The jumbles and vintage fairs must be fascinating to shop at. The adventure continues! Love it. :)

  76. Oh Vix I'm so far behind but had to say how much I liked this post. Like you, I don't feel like 50's style suits me, though I do love it. I always feel like you need neat hair and a demure walk among other things, whereas I have wild hair and I lope along so I look better in more 60's or 70's styles. But this look is great on you, I like the futuristic feel mixed in with the 50's, even in a crowd of vintage, you still stand out as being very individual. xx

    ReplyDelete
  77. I love this dress and the space age look of the shoulders with that little fabric detail!

And, remember there were the perfect 50's housewives and then there were the Teddy Girls and that's the look I'm reminded of here...better watch out for those Mods-gonna get ya!;)

I must admit though, seeing all those scooters I can barley see your dress cuz I can't stop looking at them-cuz I have crazy scooter envy!!! I love this post, but hate it too, sorry, it's not you...but, it reminds me of my Uber Cool 1959 Vespa, 2 leopard seats, with the most beautiful wide curved calings on the back...heavy sigh, WHY WHY WHY did I sell it WHY...Rosebud!;)

You all look like you had a great time and I agree with Clare, the gal in the orange is 60's perfection.:)
