Travelling Light(ish)

Here's my travel wardrobe for Kerala.

Clockwise from top left:  Original 1980s pirate boots (25p, car boot sale) , psychedelic flares (seen HERE), handmade (by me) tote bag, Topshop maxi dress (seen HERE) , psychedelic crop top (seen HERE), 1970s hippy-tastic tie-dye sun dress (£4.99, YMCA), Bespoke leather sandals, hand-made in Tamil Nadu, three vintage scarves, Ghost silk tunic (seen HERE), TopShop fringed suede sandals (£4, eBay in 2008), two Indian-bought sarongs, Oasis maxi skirt (20p, jumble sale), 1970s hand-painted kaftan top (£1, car boot sale), 1970s maxi (seen HERE), vintage fringed poncho (seen HERE), Silk bolero (India), Selection of bikinis, denim waistcoat, 1970s batik print maxi (seen HERE), de-constructed laddered vest (India),  TopShop ribbed vests, 1970s embroidered leather bag (£1, car boot sale)

Underwear? Not a fan, especially when I'm on holiday.

The jewellery:

A few necklaces and pendants

Ganesh choker made by Krista's fair hands, African tribal choker (inherited), everything else picked up abroad

Two pairs of vintage sunglasses.

Pink pair courtesy of the fabulous Sarah, White Ted Lapidus originals from a charity shop

A handful of pairs of earrings

Shark's tooth earrings courtesy of Sandy , peacock feathers and bronze festival hoops from the divine Helga

A few bangles, armlets and anklets

A coin belt

Free from a car boot sale

Hair accessories (I've also packed hair grips and bands, far too dull to show you)

A handful of rings and toe rings

Silver dragon & carnelian rings both from Krista

The toiletries are more or less the same as usual so here's what we took on our last trip:

My make-up bag consists of kohl, eyelash curlers, tweezers and a pencil sharpener, not worthy of a picture.

It's times like these that I almost wish I had a Kindle:

The bags are locked so no chance of me sneaking in any last minute things.

I'm off to a dinner party with friends, I'll see you tomorrow, hangover permitting.

Have a happy Saturday.

  2. Oh how I wish I was getting packed up to go too - you are going to have such a great time! Love your wonderful clothes. The thing with the Kindle is how bereft you'd be if you lost it - at least if one of these books goes awry you can just start another! Bon voyage! xxxx

  3. Have an amazing time, how much will you be bringing home? ;-)

Kindles are ideal for holidays, if nothing else. I didn't think I'd like mine as much as I do, but I wouldn't be without it now.

  4. I have to say I have been leaning towards a kindle too. Even though most of my working life - when I worked for Other People that is, was in the book trade - bookshops, library and index writing. Even though I LOVE having a book in my hand, they look so convenient.

P.s. Mind if I raid your (virtual) closet?? :D

  6. Vix, you are a packing princess - The perfect capsule style wardrobe, albeit the fab bling (and books!) must weigh a bit!

    Still, you are a marvel.

I hope your stay is as cool as you are - Stay safe, and please return with lots of stories!

  11. What a beautifully put together wardrobe! You are going to look fabulous, as always.

I left Krista a comment about the pendant, thanks! I am crazy about her love of pink, and she seems like great fun, so even if I can't get a pendant, I found a new blog to read. Thanks!

I am a Kindle hold out also, though for holidays it would come in handy. I adore my laptop and my smart phone, but I still prefer my books on paper and my music on vinyl. Great reading selections, BTW!

  12. Sigh - so many lovely things! You're going to have a wonderful holiday with that lot! So jealous! You'll be sorely missed too xx

  13. Lovely colour scheme. Everything looks so neat and collective.
Kindles are interesting but I'd have to try one out to compare, I do still think it's much more engaging to flick through pages. And at least you get to observe the cover work everytime you put the book down- might not be always gorgeous to look at but it's still tactile and real.
    Great post!

  14. I'm lusting after EACH and EVERY piece in this post! Have a superb trip, you!
Most importantly if you decide to sop by Chennai (Tamil Nadu), make sure you call me. :]
    Lots of love.

  16. Very impressed by your lightweight and beautiful and cleverly coordinated wardrobe choices. I'm trying to do the same for my Australian trip but most of my clothes are linen or linen mix so a little bit heavier. But thanks for the reminder about vintage sunnies. I have a few in stock and shall borrow a pair for my hols. I'm with you on the enormous book-pile. I carry most in my large shoulder bag/hold-all, nonchalantly pretending it's actually as light as a feather when we're checking in. I leave them behind for my daughters as books are so expensive there. All mine are from charity shops/car boots so sadly a kindle would be no use as I don't want to pay full price for e-books. Have a great time Vix - I look forward to seeing your photos.Cx

  24. That's a well-coordinated collection, especially with all your jewellery. It must be great to pack knowing that the sunshine is pretty much a given. We always stay in Britain, so there's no chance of packing light when you have to prepare for anything!
Hope you have a fantastic time, missing you already x

  25. I couldn't pack light if I tried, shit me undies would be half the weight allowance! :D Last time we went back to the UK I put my clothes pile next to the suitcase, Joe likes to pack you see, and I left him to it. It wasn't until we opened the bags at his mums and I said 'What the hell is this lot??' He'd packed the pile of washing as well!! Luckily it was at least washed! hahah

  30. I can always manage to pack light on clothes but makeup/jewellery/nail polish and toiletries have always been hard for me to cut down on! Saying that, I did manage to fit it all in a vanity case when I went home for Christmas so I must be getting better at it!

You're going to be the best dressed and accessorised beauty on the beach! Have fun!! xxx

  31. One of the many things I love about your wardrobe is the fantastic array of colour, and your suitcase doesn't disappoint. I need to take inspiration, sometimes it's too easy to get stuck in a colourless rut.
