Well, out on the town last night we noticed a few posters advertising a vintage fair at Sutton Coldfield town hall today. As Jon was busy tinkering with cars it was a toss-up between being on tea-making duties or donning some vintage finery and tagging along with Liz and Adrian and guess which option won?
The admission price was £1 and there was a huge range of vintage and vintage-inspired goodies to suit all budgets.
I couldn't resist posing by this awesome red Mustang before I went in.
1980's stuff in abundance. |
As our boiler's decided to pack up, I couldn't really justify spending £65 on a fabulous brocade opera coat with a marabou trim, yet another maxi or some original suede platform shoes, more's the pity.
There was live music, swing dancing demonstrations and vintage makeovers and even a vintage bridal boudoir.
I spotted the lovely Laura selling her gorgeous handmade jewellery.
Vintage catsuit (£3.33) worn with velvet platforms (£9, Office) and vintage chain belt (the fabulous Helga) |
John Marks velvet maxi waistcoat (Vintage Village @ Clothes Show, 2008), emerald felt hat (£4, Birmingham Settlement), vintage locket and chain (the divine Kitty) |
Sending lots of love to my sisters and brothers in the States today.
Hope your weekend's been a good one.
Shame about the broiler. And of course you are never overdressed.
ReplyDeleteDon't be silly! Green is your colour. That hat looks so happy on your head. Love the collage of prints on that sweet dress. Think I need a Red Mustang;-)

That velvet number is a stunner, especially when topped off by a green hat and posed by a red Mustang!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have a rummage amongst the vintage, there are a couple of fairs coming up soon in Sheffield, and even if I don't buy, I love going for a gawp and a try and a chat!
You did well to restrain yourself, and £3.33 for a lovely catsuit is a snip!
Glad you had a lovely time. xxxxxx
It looks like you had a splendid day out and it sounds as if there was plenty of vintage to go around. The cat suit is ever the bargain and green really does suit you so well, I’m feeling the envy all over again xxx

ReplyDeleteYou look fab - that hat and frock really work together! And a vintage fair would be SO difficult without buying a teeny leetle something, wouldn't it?!
ReplyDeleteAwesome jumpsuit ;-D
Ali x
Vix, you could never be overdressed, I think you look elegantly relaxed! The catsuit is so you, a great find. It's brilliant when you find things in your budget at fairs - they're often a bit expensive for me. Trés annoying about the boiler - didn't it break down earlier in the year as well?
ReplyDeleteHave a nice evening x
Overdressed?! No such thing!! You looked totally divine, dar, that maxi is one of my faves!!
ReplyDeleteI do love a vinatge fair, everywhere one looks is always pretty! Love the jumpsuit, great shade of green!(Just like your hat!)

Gosh you look lovely in green, and I like your beautiful curls too. The only thing I've ever found for £3 at a vintage fair is a scone in the tea-room!
ReplyDeleteOh my word, look at that hat! I love it. And is that really a waistcoat? I thought it was a frock. I bet you were the best dressed at the fair. Xx
ReplyDeleteGreen is definately your colour, it took me 20 years to get back to it after wearing it to school every day for 6 years, but it has to be dark or sludge for me. Loving the catsuit tucked into boots vibe.
ReplyDeleteOoh now thats the kind of fair i would like to happen where I live - what a great day out! Im loving you in green too :o) Scarlett x
ReplyDeleteLove your dress at first I thought the car was yours,Love your green cat suit bargain :)
ReplyDeleteA striking pattern, carried off by you beautifully. Velvet is a material which gives all colours and patterns a subtle matte depth - I adore it!
ReplyDeleteBut if you had the coat you could wear it to keep warm!! x
ReplyDeleteThat is such a Gorgeous dress! You manage to find the best clothing and accessories!
ReplyDeleteOverdressed Vix??? Hardly! Is that a 1964 Ford Mustang - my dream car! Looks like you had a fun day.

I know only too well the whole 'can't buy clothes... need cash for house stuff' dilemma, seems I've been in the midst of it for several months and will be till Xmas. Still, you look fabulous anyhow, probably showing the stallholders a thing or two about vintage style as you went round!

ReplyDeletethere is no such thing as overdressed x
ReplyDeleteOoh, where to begin? It has to be with that catsuit - I think you were made for catsuits, really I do. You have such a stunning collection and look fabulous in every single one. I love really vibrant, emerald greens, so the felt hat is a stunner too.
ReplyDeleteI love that first dress! Don't worry about overdressing- you are just shaming us lesser-mortals into making more effort! It's not overdressing, it's inspiration!

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you didn't resist the fabulous green jumpsuit - it needed to go home with you:)). Overdressed is under-rated. Only people who haven't tried dressing to please themselves call it such silly names. You are utterly fabulous in your gorgeous green hat and maxi, while I'm very impressed with the red mustang pose. You look like you own that car!!! xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress xx
