Frocktastic Friday Finds

It's Frock On A Friday which means whatever you're up to just wear a fabulous dress to do it in.

Vintage Trevira maxi dress by Concord of London (99p, eBay), Suedette platform boots (£5, local boutique), 1940's lizard bag (50p, Salvation Army), Bangles (second-hand and/or vintage), Earrings (Present)
For me it was my usual morning swim followed by a trawl of the town centre charity shops.
My delightful friends at the Salvation Army had saved me a heap of vintage including this post-war lizard skin bag (50p) made in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Most of the other treasures are hanging out to dry, a pile of 1950's silk cravats, pocket handkerchiefs, a couple of rain hats, hand-rolled scarves and a hippytastic pure wool 1960's era Sonny Bono gilet for Jon.

How fabulous is this Edwardian silk bed jacket? Not bad for £1.20?

It's beautifully made with French seams and in perfect condition.

Who says you can't find vintage in charity shops these days? Not me!

I think this lace bonnet (50p) dates back to the mid-19th century. Twiggy looks a lot better in it than I do!

Let's step into the 20th Century now

This 1950's ceramic poodle egg cup and green swan were in the 10p basket.

I'm not normally a fan of vintage china but I couldn't help snaffling this pretty 1930's Art Deco Grafton Ware coffee pot and stand for £1.75.

We're having a home-made pizza and wine this evening and are off to a canal boat festival tomorrow with maybe a cheeky car boot sale in the morning (if we're up in time).

To everyone who reads my blog, thank you for your wonderful comments and support. If you've got a blog and I haven't got back to you I promise I will.

Have a brilliant weekend!

  2. I've sort of let the side down - I've distinctly unfabulous looking today. However I do have a sweater dress on and that counts, yes? It has a totally OTT star pattern on so at least I'm not blending in to the background.

  10. Beautiful dress. I loove the coffee pot - it would never be priced at just 1.75 where I live though, inflation has definitely hit our charity shops up here, it's often just not worth buying at the prices they ask. xxx

  18. arrgh! Blogger ate my comment!

    I was going to say:

Great finds from your lovely SA ladies. Especially like the bag, Edwardian jacket and coffee pot.

I agree you can find vintage in charity shops if you keep looking, but it's usually overpriced where I live. I saw a 70s cream lace Devonshire Lady blouse the other day, but it was an 8/10 and £2.25, so I left it there!

  24. Ahhhh, Vix looking ethereal in a gorgeous frock, and lots of charity shop goodies to wonder at - that's what I call a good start to a weekend!
Forget about a frock for Friday, but have been attracting attention on the school run in my 70s lurex fish scales maxi skirt (you know the one) so I'm hoping that counts... I don't care if the other mums laugh; I think of you, Vix, and all the other amazing vintage-lovin' bloggers out there, and go for it!
    Enjoy your weekend, love!

  34. You have the best selection of maxi dresses and they ALWAYS look really good on you too! Adore the fabric on today's dress!

I really really REALLY love that swan vase and I can't believe it was in a 10p basket!! Crazy!

I swear you must live in a magical wonderland because the charity shops where I live just aren't as cheap as yours! That swan would probably be up for a couple of quid and the charming Art Deco coffee pot would probably be around £4.99!!

The delicate little lace bonnet is something special. Can you please do a fun Victorian dress up for us? I'd love to see you in the style of a Victorian lady! xxx

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ohhhh... I did wear a fabulous leopard print chiffon maxi skirt on Friday with a white faux fur front sweater jacket(!) but I forgot to take photos and it doesn't count anyway because it wasn't a frock.
