Jumble-tastic Finds

We went to a jumble sale on Friday afternoon. Around here it's not odd to hold a jumble sale during the day and the queue had already snaked around the block by the time the doors opened at 2pm. Being a deprived inner-city area most people are after essentials and aren't in the least bit interested in the vintage fripperies we love.

I grabbed a heap of vintage souvenir linen tea towels which we used to recover the tatty old seats on our four kitchen chairs. This Spanish lady is especially for my dear friend, Sacramento.

The Lloyd Loom "Lusty" bedside table was 20p.

An Antler suitcase, 1950's grosgrain clutch bag, suede-lined English made Leather Kelly bag and a bamboo handled bag were 20p each.

This framed watercolour reminded me of the snake charmers we saw in Djemaa El-Fna in Marrakesh when we travelled around Morocco in the early 1990's. It was 10p.

The vintage English-made velvet turban was 20p

This 1960's crimplene tunic was 20p....

....as were these vintage blouses.

The psychedelic bri-nylon pussy bow blouse and 1970's leather Okay Sac satchel were also 20p a piece.

Fab 1960's and 1970's dresses

A gents' sheepskin leather jerkin for £2 (off the nearly new rail) and a 1970's reversible wool cape for 20p.

This gorgeous 1960's Welsh tweed cape was one of Jon's finds. I've now got more capes than a super hero.

There was more, much more....a 1950's cocktail tray, a hammock, shoes, ties, bags, books, a leather biker jacket, a tank top, 1960's dinner suit, a lurex maxi skirt...hooray for jumble sales. All that fun and we didn't spend a tenner.

  3. Hey that lady in the turban has stolen your eye makeup look from yesterday!

Am trying hard not to make my usual whiny comments from the words 'Fair', 'Not' '20p' etc and it's bloody difficult I can tell you. Love the teatowel covered seats and may steal that idea some day. If you were in a london boutique which was into upcycling you could sell those chairs for a small fortune.

  16. I am weeping, weeping at all your finds. I can't remember the last time I saw a jumble sale in this area, let alone went to one :-(

I think if I were in a room that had all the lovely things you have just bought for sale in it I would spontaneously combust!!!

I *think* I love the little black bamboo handled bag best but it's a tough call.

Can I come with you next time please??

  17. Inner-city, huh? So THAT's where I'm going wrong..

The belted-front cape is just perfection, and the suede(?) waistcoat you're wearing over the tunic is so covetable, too.

  43. Lloyd Loom for 20p? I'm in shock. I love the chair cover too. I cannot find ANY jumble sales locally :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. Dearest Vix,
You & Jon are a superb jumble team!
Mark is not keen at all, which is a shame cause it's bloody hard work doing all that rummaging & lugging on ones tod, never mind solitarily jostling with rabid purple-rinsers to get to the loot.
I'm always amazed at how little you spend & how much you get at these jumble sales...I mean a tenner for all that loveliness that is incredibly cheap.
Some vintage tea towels are so pretty I think that they wouldn’t look out of place in a frame but I really love the chair cover idea.
I once used an old Fender T-shirt with a cool print to cover a chair seat & glued some plectrums on to it.
I’m trying desperately to catch up with everyone’s blogs at the mo, needless to say you are my first port of call, then I’m off to check out the girls Down Under :)
Take care my lovely; you look fantastic as always!
    Luv,
    Jem

  58. Oh no, I'm a day behind due to dodgy internet connection... So I'm last to see your fantastic treasure trove of gorgeousness. I went to a jumble on Saturday, a car boot and street market (including "vintage" section - ha!) and got nothing like the beautiful and oh-so-cheap wonders which you found.

You have a great eye for quirky loveliness. Are you really a Jedi? "These items are only 20p. You will sell them to me for 20p only." Like the Irishman whose name I've forgotten on the Apprentice!

    Well done Victorious Vix!

  59. You ARE a superhero! Who else could get such amazing things (and at such amazing prices) at every jumble sale you attend? Now all you need is a superhero name.

  61. Bloody hell, Vix. I don't know what goes on in the West Midlands, but in the north no-one ever seems to sell anything for 20p anymore. If I were you I'd spend whole afternoons rolling round in my pile of vintage dresses. And are the hotpants going to make it onto the 'rules' post? They look ace! xx

    ReplyDelete
  62. The blouses are officially super beautiful! Way nicer than any I've seen in high street, and I've been hunting them down for some time now! Also, well done Vix on upholstering your chairs with the vintage towels! WHat a great idea and the result is amazing!
