The males of the house are suffering, our moggy Stephen got struck down by a nasty bug earlier in the week and Jon's currently languishing on the settee after a violent attack of sickness. Needless to say our planned car boot outing was shelved and even though he's feeling better now, Jon needs to keep his strength up as he's off to Wales in the morning to pick up a rather fabulous antique French corbeille bed we won on eBay for a song.
So instead of buying more vintage tat I spent today constructively, getting cracking on the mending pile mountain.
I even managed to replace the zip in this Mad Man style 1960's Elgee suit I bought in a charity shop last year, not an easy feat for a woman lacking in needlework skills. I managed to break two sewing machine needles in the process.
I finished reupholstering the bedroom stool I pulled out of the skip on the way back from the pub last sunday morning.
Better dash before the invalid starts ringing the new tea bell again. Maybe it wasn't such a great find after all.
Vintage skirt suit (£3.50 Sue Ryder), Dune Zinc heels (£7 Seconds stall on market), Turquoise earrings (Bombay street market) |
That suit is a beauty, you don't half suit it! Poor Jon, remember whatever it is he has it will be worse than anyting us women have to deal with he will need TLC, thank heavens you found that bell ~ tee hee! :)

what a fab suit! brown and turquoise is my fave combo too! lovely Bx
ReplyDeleteOooh! I love the chocolate brown + turquoise, and it matches your blog design! That is a beautiful suit -- I'd like to play with it, matched together or as separates.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone feels better soon, and that you escape the plague.
No way are you "lacking in needlework skills" (your patchwork curtain and lovely flamingo shower curtain poncho springs to mind). Loving the outfit.
ReplyDeleteDear Vix,
ReplyDeleteis that yet another Dollyrocker dress won eBay I spy hanging in/on your wardrobe?
I was admiring that print the other week & thinking 'That would look fab on Vix!'.
Poor Jon & Stephen :(
Hope both your lovely boys will feel much better soon :)
You've done a great job with that stool by the way, I love the pom-pom trim, nice touch!
The skirt suit is fabulous & teaming it with vivid green is a styling master stroke.
French bed; sounds very boudoir...I'd love to be able to buy nice old furniture...maybe one day ;)
Lot's of love & get well soon vibes,
Jem

ReplyDeleteHahaha the tea bell is coming to haunt you! Love the suit and gorgeous pairing with the glorious tights and shoes xx
ReplyDeleteQuestion for you, Vix: how on earth do you manage to remember how much you paid for things you've bought (I only ever remember by going back through my blog - otherwise I'm hopeless!) - do you keep a record? Love the suit, BTW, and inspired choice of hosiery and legwear with it - fabulous! xx

ReplyDeleteHair
Hoops
Heels
:D
Hope that the men of the house are on the mend x
ReplyDeleteFab suit - our local charity shop has had a makeover and they've put the prices up. £4.99 for a Taxi Driver postcard in a crappy old clipframe, I know it's for charity but there are limits.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very different look for you! I love it, it looks great and I am so impressed that you managed to replace a zip. I am a little scared of zips, but my local alterations place charges 15 quid to replace them so I need to learn.
ReplyDeleteOops, so the bell hasn't worked out quite how you imagined then! Sure by next week it'll be in full wine-working order! Love the colour of those tights you've teamed with this outfit. Hope the boys are all on better form soon. xx
ReplyDeleteHa ha! The tea bell! That made me laugh! Think I'll keep mine packed away then - coincidently my man struck down with some wierd stomach bug too and spent my Saturday evening playing Florence Nightingale. Love the suit and the turquoise accessories!
ReplyDeleteoh and love the upholstery job you did on that stool!
ReplyDeletei am in love with combination! the pop of turquose has made the outfit so unusual!
ReplyDeleteGreat suit! Blimey, I don't envy you your mending pile. Hope Jon feels lots better in time for his trip to Wales ;0)

Get well soon Jon and Stephen! I absolutely love the suite with those tights, an absolutely amazing colour combination. Thanks for the music recommendation and photography website, I shall be checking them both out shortly x

ReplyDeleteI love how you've put the brown and turquoise together. they match so well. Love the finish product of the stool. xxx
ReplyDeleteOh poor Jon :( Hope he's feeling more chipper tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYou look bee-yoo-tiful in that suit. And the colourful legs and shoes, woo hoo! Bet you knew I'd approve of that part, didn't you?
The sneaky wardrobe peek is such a treat for the eyes. Check out all those amazing colours and patterns!
Ms. Vix I love that color combo.
ReplyDeleteI hope the boys get better and you will post pics of this French bed won't you?
Ah, Vix, what I love about your blog is it brings a smile to my face. (No, not suffering males, best get-better-soon wishes to him!), but the amazing turquise earrings and tights. You've done it again, dear! xxx
ReplyDeleteOOh you won the bed, good one! Its so easy, isn't it, to just buy a tonne of stuff and lug it home and put it somewhere and then not touch it for ages. Sometimes its good to have an enforced episode of cleaning/sorting/fixing. Hope the boys are better soon or you may end up flinging that bell.xx.
ReplyDeleteWowza, I'm seeing a lot of turquoise leggings lately. I really need to find some fancy colors for myself.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely stunning in that vintage skirt suit! LOVE!!
Cleaning the clouds,
Berlin

Lovely suit and the turquoise accessories are fab (turquoise is one of my favourite colours). I like how the stool has turned out too especially your upholstery; doesn't it give you a lot of satisfaction when its completed, especially when its a skip find!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty of a suit, really suits you. Love the tights to brighten it up.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the bed.
xx
Woah there girl! Are you trying to kill me again? That suit is stupendously gorgeous, but with the tights and shoes, it's off the Richter scale amazing. Maybe Stephen is in sympathy for Helga's Boris? Hope your boys are back on their paws soon:) xoxo
ReplyDeleteAwwwww...I hope they feel better soon.....LOVE the tights and shoes hunnie!!!

Great combination, you can't beat a good suit! Sorry to hear that the males are afflicted - they always suffer so much more than us, don't they? ;-)
ReplyDeleteThink I may finally have caught some of your mojo - I won a 70s frock on ebay for 99p yesterday and found a Mr Darren dress in a charity shop on Friday. Until now, I've never found any vintage in charity shops, so somethings changed! It wasn't quite on your level of bargain (I paid £7.99), but I was chuffed to find it!
tres jolie tenue j aime bcp les details ;O)
ReplyDeleteYOUR TIGHTS
ReplyDeleteamazing.

Dear Vix, love the suit. I'm laughing about the tea bell. The Actor is lying downstairs with a cricked neck. He could do with borrowing it but I fear he'd drive me mad.
ReplyDeleteI hope Jon and Stephen are both on the mend.
Corbeille beds are my favourite! Can't wait to see it. The stool looks beautiful, you've done a great job xx
Love your blog! Please visit/join mine:)

ReplyDeleteI'm going to put a picture of you on my refrigerator door to remind me how good everything looks on a slim, fit body :)
Hope everyone at your place is on the road to recovery (and to Wales)!
Actually, I lied - the Mr Darren dress was £6.99!
ReplyDeletewow, the tights are really bright.i love the color contrast here - cheeky:-)
ReplyDeleteWow, this is AMAZING. The colour on bottom, the neutrals on top! The POW with the conservative. This is just and AMAZING outfit. I adore it. It is drool worthy.
