Hoorah for The Welsh!

In honour of Jon collecting our latest eBay purchase from Wales today I dug out my Welsh Tweed cape to wear to walk to the corner shop, I found on a girly chazzing trip to Shrewsbury earlier this year.

Vintage cape (Age Concern) Grey patent boots (River Island 2008 sale £20) Bermona Trend hat (local hospice charity shop)

Here's the antique French corbeille bed we won on eBay. Can you believe that there was only one other bidder and it sold for just £129? It came complete with the bed base and the original horsehair mattress and despite the lovely seller being very disappointed with the price he gave us a pair of matching bedside lights.

Hopefully the decorating will be completed by the end of the week so that I can do a dedicated blog post to our guest room entirely created with second-hand finds, just like every other room in our house.

The boys are both much better today, thanks for the well-wishes and positive vibes. Hopefully the ladies of the house are made of sterner stuff.

  2. Wow, the bed's gorgeous, very opulent! Love the cape. I have one similar in different shades of purple from a charity shopping trip to Bedworth x

  3. Oh, it's a wicker basket too. Frankly that doesn't make much sense either! At least not to me...

  6. That's a gorgeous bed, and what a price?! You wouldn't get a cheap cardboard one for that new! I also love that cape. I'm watching a waistcoat on ebay in EXACTLY the same material. x

  13. Dear Vix,
Wow, what an amazing chateau-chic bed!
I would have to dig out my best boudoir belle peignoir to even feel worthy of sleeping in that.
Well done to Jon for trekking all the way to Wales to bring it back home.
Isn't it funny (in a very good way) how sellers, albeit disappointed with the price still seem to throw more goodies into the bargain...huzzah to that!
Glad to hear that both your boys are feeling better now.
I love Welsh tapestry & am very covetous of your gorgeous cape; it’s just the kind of thing I yearn to find hanging in the charity shop but so far no such luck.
Can’t wait to see the guest room all finished…it’ll be a real treat!
    Lot’s of love,
    Jem

  15. Dear Vix, what a brilliant bargain! I absolutely love the bed!! The room will look amazing! Bargains like that aren't so easy to come by these days. Too many people keep bidding and raising the prices I find. I've bought 90% of my furniture on there. I think I first joined Ebay in 2000 though so it was easier then.

The cape is fab too. I'm very glad both boys are on the mend xx

  16. Vix! What a gorgeous, sexy bed...and the color! I can't wait to see the finished results of your guest room. I had never heard of a corbeille bed before it kind of looks like a sleigh bed but tricked out so to speak! Helga's right, it's a bodice ripper!

You are looking very Sherlock Holmes in that cape! Blue is my favorite color so I am jealously coveting it.

Glad to hear the boys are feeling better!

  17. There's lovely, mind!! Ah, a bit of Welsh Tweed. I had a coat made of it when I was little..it was my 'best' coat that I usually wore to trek up the hill to church on Christmas Eve to belt out the carols with the rest of my school. It got passed on to someone else and I bet it's still out there somewhere!
    Fantastic bed...what a bargain.xx

  25. Bless you for featuring a cape today in such a gorgeous colour. I adore capes! I've had a rotten day and seeing this outfit has cheered me up no end.

I think we're witnessing the creation of a veritable boudior here! Serious coup with that ebay win, I'm very envious!

  30. Oooh I sold a cape exactly the same as that a couple of months ago, it was fabulous quality, I'd have kept it but one could never wear such a thing in this climate. The bed is gorgeous!

  31. Not only is that cape awesome, but that bed, OH MY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful and the original horse hair mattress!
(there is a bed-bug outbreak in the U.S., So I am avoiding bedding for the time being, unless I can wash them. i would like to find some more vintage sheets, but they aren't being sold ;(

  34. Oh my goodness, that bed! I would've driven to Wales from here for it! It is a beauty.

I like your Shrewsbury finds, it's meant to be a very very nice town, but the only time I've been there we met some delightful (ahem) young men that took a disliking to us because they believed we were diluting their sense of 'Englishness'. Errr, we're from London you Neanderthal idiots

  35. Yes yes yes Vix !!!
    You're just the best !!!

  36. OMG total bed envy. It is beautiful. Can't believe you got it for such a good price, amazing. Look forward to seeing the finished room. x

  40. I still haven’t worn my Welsh tweed coat, yours looks a little longer and an easier fastening than mine, I am always worried about my arms feeling uncomfortable with the cape sleeves, but I am too fussy after all.

The bed is so luxurious and grand, I would have thought something like this would have cost so much more, you are a real one for finding bargains (and not just clothing ones). I can’t wait to see the guest room post, it will be fascinating to see, I am already looking forward to it xx

  45. Wonderful boots, and amazing bed! I think that many people are reluctant to bid on furnishings far away because of transport issues -- or huge shipping costs. That means some good prizes for those willing to make the effort to get a large vehicle and travel.

I look forward to seeing the entire guest room, and wishing I was a guest.
