The Prints & The Pauper

Cheesecloth blouse (Courtesy of the fabulous Jem), Vintage flares (£1 from a Car boot sale), Tooled leather belt (50p from Help The Aged), 1970's Macrame Pendant (A gift from the wonderful Helga), Silver bangles and rings (India and inherited)

Want to see another glorious 1970's print? My vintage cheesecloth blouse was one of the fabulous treats in the parcel my immensely generous and gorgeous friend Jem sent me last week.

Anyone living in the UK for the last seven days will appreciate the somewhat apt design.

With a succession of summer festivals and mid-week nights out the old finances have taken a bit of a battering and we haven't been on a proper food shop for ages.

I've had to be creative with this evening's meal, it's a vegetable quiche made from hand-made olive oil pastry and filled with home-grown herbs, peppers and onions, an ancient tin of sweetcorn, a couple of eggs and some scraps of unidentifiable cheese found lurking in the depths of the fridge. I've braved the rain to forrage through the vegetable patch and found some broad beans and peas to accompany it. It doesn't look too bad does it?

The groovy vintage oven mitt was 10p from a jumble sale

It's far too wet to venture outside for photographs so we're inside today. The Belfast sink unit was a bargainacious £150 from eBay a couple of years ago. The black ceramic knobs, wooden drainer and brass mixer tap were all car boot sale finds. The wine rack and vegetable storage were also booty bargains. The house was built in 1750 and I've no idea how old the ceramic tiling on the floor is but we know it's been there since at least 1948.

  3. I never look this glamorous in my kitchen! Love those tiles. Another lovely print with the rainclouds. Isn't this weather awful?
I'm growing broad beans too! So the one good thing is I don't have to water them these days.

  7. Oh my god, Vix, you are so my girl!
I've just made a 'is it nearly payday?' veggie cobbler for tea and the family loved it. In fact the Old Man says I make better food when I have to ratch around to make ends meet. And our kitchen is similarly made from boot finds, bargains and other peoples throw outs. By the way only you could look that foxy standing in your kitchen!!

  8. How is it you know I've been thinking of making a quiche myself! I don't know but I just have had a hankering these past few days. Can I come over, I'll bring dessert!

I am totally digging your 70s vibe and I am in love with your kitchen. Here's what I love: 1) it's been around since 1750, 2) that gorgeous country sink and 3) those fabulous floor tiles.

I think this is one of my fave posts that you've done! That faucet looks like one from Ikea that I considered for the bathroom (ended up with a vintage looking Moen).

  20. I am so fascinated to see your kitchen, I noticed straight away you were photographed inside and immediately scrolled down. I love having a nosey at people’s houses, your kitchen looks stunning!
The blouse is o so appropriate right now, what a wonderful print.

And I am very jealous of your vegetable patch! It sounds like you have lots growing. We are growing in the garden this year, but mainly in the greenhouse, I noticed a few tomatoes finally coming through earlier tonight. We have leeks, peppers and pumpkins outside though. Hopefully next year we can grow a lot more :) xxx

  23. i do do tee,hee ( do do ) them myself.
I use a steady prop and do 2 coats of white.
not side to side, but toe to tip and use tooth picks to clean up boo boos. then hit em with a topcoat of clear or basecoat, which ever is handier, and then hit em again after they dry.
the longer your nails are, the better it works.
The next day, I may or may not hit them again with the white to cover any oopsies. It's really easy and lasts forever. I even file them with the polish still on ;) They do get pokey after a while.

  36. Dear Vix,
My hubby loves your house, he's a bit of a "secret" Vintage Vixen fan me thinks.
I do believe he catches up with your blog at least once a week.
The other day he said to me "your friend comes back home today doesn't she" meaning you ;)
Needless to say I share my hubbies opinion as regards to your lovely abode, it's a corker of house & the interior radiates creativity.
It's the kind of house I'd like to buy should I ever be lucky enough to get some pennies from heaven.
You look so totally amazing in that blouse...just WOW!
As for your quiche, I think it looks spectacularly yummy but I wouldn't be able to eat it as I am one of those fusspot vegans.
My store cupboard saviour is soya mince & if I may blow my own trumpet, I make a mean vegan Spag Bol ;)
    …xXx

I think it's a close call as to which I love best - that amazing blouse or the brilliant vegetable storage drawers. Possibly the storage. I am a weirdo, I know.
