House of Fire

I was queuing outside the Indian High Commission at 7.30 this morning and I haven't warmed up all day. Today's blog title is an Alice Cooper song because my eyeliner resembled his after an hour spent in the icy rain. I'm not a winter person and hate the cold with a passion.

Our house is old and draughty so we've got the heating on and a real fire burning in the grate.
The brass companion set isn't really to our taste but we found it in a skip and a coat of matt black stove paint should transform it nicely.

I've dug some cosy clothing from out of the depths of my wardrobe to keep me snug over the coming week. The faux fur boots are by Kurt Geiger and cost £1.50 from a car boot sale, I thought the seller would want more as they hadn't been worn. The simulated mink jacket was a jumble sale find, it cost 15p. I made the brooch by glueing a pin to the back of an oversized button with nail glue.

It's definately the night for a glass of red wine and a good book.

  2. It completely astounds me that people don't know the value of their possessions. I'd guess that seller could've got around £50 for those boots on eBay. It must be a mixture of apathy and a willingness to de-clutter quickly. Good news for thrifters, anyway!

Gorgeous fire, by the way. I long for an open fire but since moving from my family home into rented, it's beige walls and laminate flooring all the way. That's the first thing I'll do when I have my own place - light a fire! :)

  3. Funnily enough I saw the same boots at another car boot sale a week later but that lady wanted £10 for them and they'd been worn quite a bit. xx
