Once upon a time, I had two wardrobes, the one for my twice-yearly Indian adventures was packed with vintage block printed silk & cotton dresses and skirts, coloured with natural vegetable dyes in rich earthy shades, always ankle-grazing and never worn with heels. My wardrobe for the remaining ten months of the year was bursting with everything flamboyantly 1970s, psychedelic catsuits, maxi dresses in retina-burning hues, luridly printed blouses and voluminous floor-length skirts, mostly in synthetic fabrics and worn with jet-black hair, false eyelashes & huge platforms.
Here I am in 2016 clad in a 1970s nylon maxi dress, opening my travel suitcase in anticipation of my next Indian adventure (post HERE).
Over the last few years, my travel wardrobe started to creep into everyday life and I realised that the joy I experienced in India wasn't just down to my love of the country but also because I felt more "me" in the clothes I wore when I was there. When Covid struck and the festivals, fairs and nights-out stopped, I packed the flamboyant gear away and, after unpacking and reassessing it a year later, picked out a few of my favourite pieces and sold everything else. I've also ditched the huge heels and the black hair dye (favouring cool dark brown) but still love my false eyelashes when I'm off out.
I got so much pleasure selling my wardrobe to the festival-goers at the End of the Road 2021, seeing how amazing they looked in my old favourites and from the eBay customers who sent me photos of them wearing the clothes that were once mine. Of course, the cash I've made has also been a thrill. For decades, 1970s fashion was sneered at by vintage aficionados and, for many years, I'd picked up clothes from my favourite era for an absolute pittance. Now the 1970s is (and I hate to use this expression) on-trend, I've been able to upgrade my wardrobe with beautifully constructed, ethically produced, top quality clothing with some of the proceeds of the vintage garments I've parted with.
Whilst most of my block printed or hand embroidered Indian clothes are vintage originals, I've got no problem with buying new (as long as the company has proven to have great ethics). Having visited several factories and artisans on my travels around India I know that the clothes are produced in exactly the same way as they were fifty years ago.
I'd not been aware of Kharibu until I won these two dresses on eBay for a fiver each. I Googled the label and loved everything on their website. I'd had my eye on this shirred maxi dress for a while and after seeing it was reduced in their sale decided it was high time that I made it mine. They recently featured in British Vogue who wrote, Kharibu is an ethical, sustainable and conscious label, working with a team of artisans in Rajasthan to create beautiful hand-block printed clothing. Vegetable dyes, wooden blocks and talented hands are the heart and soul of every piece, celebrating thousand-year-old traditions and unique craftsmanship. Designed in the UK, created in India and produced in small batches, Kharibu offers bohemian and vintage-inspired clothing which doesn’t cost the earth.
Something else I'm moving away from is having a seasonal wardrobe. My clothes fill me with joy and I want to wear them all year round. Here in the middle of the UK, we don't often have extremes of temperature, it's not unknown to experience 15°C days in both January & August whilst heatwaves and cold snaps rarely last more than a week. Last year, after spending the first full winter at home for over twenty years I discovered that, with decent thermals, I could wear my long-sleeved cotton dresses all year long.
My year-round wardrobe worked just fine on Thursday as it was snowing when we ventured forth to the charity shops. Pickings were slim but we managed to find a 1980s Clockhouse jumper (remember them?) labelled "Knitted by hand", a 1980s Orvis jacket and a Laura Ashley printed needlecord mini skirt from the same era. The red leather belt is another 1980s piece, made in England by The Bryant Belt Company. I'm keeping the wooden hairslide and the William Morris address book - something I've been after for ages as my current one is full. There was some menswear, but Jon's snaffled the cable knit cardi and suede Vans and Tony's claimed the merino wool jumper!
Friday was eBay listing day so I spent most of it outside with my camera. It was another cold day with intermittent snow showers but fortunately, the pesky white stuff didn't stick. Under my Dilli Grey dress (from eBay) I wore a 1970s Wolsey ribbed wool & Lurex bodysuit I bought from the clearance chazza for £1 back in the summer, Mum's Biba boots, a me-made hat and my Mascob for Liberty "Badin" jacket.
We had a visitor! I've seen this lovely boy wandering around the avenue for a while but he's always run off when we've approached him. Last Saturday he called round and ate Stephen's leftovers on the doorstep and on Friday he spotted me at the PC and sat beneath the window watching. He didn't let either of us touch him but he demolished three sachets of cat food and enjoyed some Whiskas Temptations while Jon stood a couple of feet away.
He returned on Saturday morning and demolished a bowlful of biscuits and a sachet of cat food.
How do you feel about having a brother, Mr Squirrel?
The forecast for Saturday was bang-on, with heavy rain replacing the icy temperatures and snow showers of previous days. The morning was spent repairing stuff, hand-washing and cleaning and when the rain finally stopped we took ourselves off for a long walk around the block. The Naked Generation dress (via eBay) is my go-to garment recently, usually worn with a cable knit cardi and wool socks but yesterday, it was accompanied by my 1960s sheepskin boots from the charity shop and my trusty vintage suede coat.
I made a start on my third book of 2022, another
Shardlake mystery. CJ Sansom's books are mighty beasts but his writing is so good that I often power through them in a matter of days.
We had a visitor for breakfast on Sunday morning. After two sachets of food and a handful of biscuits, he sat calmly on the patio, having a wash in the sunshine.
As usual, we'd filled a bag of donations during the week and drove down to the clearance charity shop to drop them off ..and to have a rummage.
We came back with a Chaps by Ralph Lauren shirt, a 1980s midi dress, a 1980s Hawaiian shirt, an Anokhi shirt, a 1980s St Michael velvet bolero with fancy diamonte buttons, a 1970s Crimplene blazer made in Finland, a 1980s Indian cotton floral jacket, a Per Una midi dress, a wool "Hemingway" waistcoat and some leather ankle boots by Moshulu.
Amazon donates a lot of their unsold and returned stock to Cancer UK and, at £2, thought I'd give these Nooril balls a try. Made from 100% New Zealand wool, you stick them in the tumble drier and they significantly reduce the drying time. We only use our tumble drier during the winter for the bedding, everything else gets hung up on the ceiling airer in the utility room and in the Summer everything gets pegged on the washing line. I used to have some spiky plastic balls which did the same job (but made a right old racket), at least these will be quiet - and I can always juggle with them if they don't work!
If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing! My new dress got another outing. This time, I wore it with my fake snake boots and I'm in good company, Beate's wearing hers today, too (
HERE). My fake fur gilet was a secondhand find last week. The vintage Gujarati amulet & Banjara earrings were bought in India.
If you're wondering about the other new dress I've bought, it'll be having an outing tomorrow, it's our first Spoons All-Dayer of 2022.
See you soon.
Firstly, love the blog title! Your outfits are perfect for winter - the body suit and sheepskin boots are a good call. The snakeskin boots look gorgeous with your new Kharibu dress and I'm liking the new cool chocolate brown hair colour (it's hard to believe you're a natural blonde). Clockhouse - now that's a blast from the past! Your new visitor looks a little sad. We've only lost one cat, but found it a little strange how another seemed to turn up quite soon afterwards. I'm wondering if he thinks he's found his new home? Time will tell. xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Claire! I've very happy with my Kharibu dress, has yours landed yet? I look back at old photos of me and can't belive I'm the same person, that blonde hair just looks wrong!
DeleteI used to love Clockhouse, isn't it starnge that you never see it in chazzas? They must have made millions of garments.
He does look rather sad, doesn't he? I've got a couple off names in mind already but Jon thinks I need to calm down! xxx
Yes mine have arrived too! I have something on order to enable me to wear them as soon as, but it hasn't arrived yet. That said, I have been so cold in the past few days, I don't think there are enough thermals in the world to enable me to contemplate cool cotton just yet! It is weird that you don't see Clockhouse items in charity shops yet. I'd forgotten all about it until I read your blog. I used to spend hours in there. I don't think you need to calm down about your new friend - he looks like a keeper. Has he been back since? xxx
DeleteOh, I'm intruiged as to what it is you'd ordered to make those dresses more cold-weather suitable.
DeleteFunnily enough, the last time I wore one of my favourite psychedelic maxis(in a heavy polyester-type fabric) I couldn't get warm all day but I never get that problem with my cotton dresses.
A delivery driver arrived just as Mr Tabby was tucking into his afternoon tea and he ran off. I hope he comes back for breakfast! xxx
Looks like you've adopted a cat.. It's probably visiting half the houses in the neighbourhood as it doesn't look skinny and starving. I bet the local cat population keep a list of who will feed them.. :-) That last outfit is absolutely gorgeous. In fact I'd wear that too. x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cherie!
DeleteOur visitor is certainly getting through some catfood. There is a sizeable cat colony living in the old windmill in the street behind our house so it's possible he might be coming from there. He certainly doesn't look thin but he eats like a gannet! xxx
Long time reader but have not commented before
ReplyDeleteYour blog became a part of my ritual during the very first lockdown, and I have continued to visit you
You put so much energy into your blog, as I imagine you do to other areas of your life. Hoping that 2022 will see a return ( safely) to festivals and music events
Do you think your new feline friend is seeking a new home ?
Siobhan
Hello, Siobhan! Thank you so much for commenting - it's lovely to hear from you and that reading my ramblings were a pleasant diversion from Lockdown.
DeleteI'm keeping everything crossed for a return to some kind of normality this Summer. Glastonbury have been in touch and remain hopeful.
If our little feline wants to move in we'll be overjoyed, there's a huge Frank-sized hole in our hearts that needs filling! xxx
our boots look fabulous with the beautiful blockprint dress!!
ReplyDelete(thanx for the mention!)
i can totally understand your love for this kind of dresses/skirts/blouses.... i would love to wear them too - if they would work on me. but they don´t :-D
such a cute stray cat! stephen looks a bit skeptical though.
xxxxx
Thanks, Beate! How funny that we both posted photos of us wearing those boots on the same day.
DeleteWhat a shame those dresses, skirts and blouses don't work for you. Being short and flat-chested has its advantages!
Stephen hasn't come face-to-face with the visitor yet - he was okay with Frank but absolutely loathes some cats. Only time will tell! xxx
Your new dresses are superb - I noticed on the website that most of their things are one-offs, so not likely to see anyone else in them! Beautiful quality, the shape/style doesn't suit my short waist but I will be keeping an eye on what else comes in :) It's only the high street fashion trade that wants us to dress for the Season, that's how they plan their stock and get us to buy things we dont need, I bet the planners and buyers of the high street fashion world would hate your blog for encouraging us all to don thermals, get those pretty Summery things out and boycott whatever they tell us is 'this Season's look'! Your new cat looks pretty - and well fed - I suspect he's a six dinner Sid type of cat but who could resist!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Betty! Definitely keep your eye on the website. Those two tent dresses are so easy to wear and I feel about six feet tall in the shirred maxi dress.
DeleteYou're right, we've been conditioned by the fashion industry to believe we need seasonal wardrobes. We'd get far more wear out of our clothes if we just wore ourt favourite things on repeat, wouldn't we?
I think Six Dinner Sid might be a member of the local cat colony, not owned but regularly fed by the landowner. He's wary of us but not absolutely terrified like Frank was, only time will tell. He is very pretty! xxx
A feline visitor, how exciting! I wonder if, like Frank before him, he'll adopt you as his new parents?
ReplyDeleteYour block printed and cotton wardrobe suits you to perfection, and I think dark brown suits you much better than jet-black, although the latter was perfect with the flamboyant 70s outfits!
Same as the two Kharibu dresses snapped up from eBay, your new shirred maxi is utterly gorgeous, and I can't wait to see you in the second one.
As for Clockhouse, they are still around here in Belgium, as part of C&A. I did love their stuff back in the 80s, but last time I looked I wasn't exactly enamoured with the stuff on offer nowadays.
Enjoy your first Spoons All-Dayer of 2022 tomorrow! xxx
I do hope so! He's a very pretty boy. I'm waiting to see what will happen when he comes face to face with Stephen. He was fine with Frank and Ginger Alan but absolutely loathes next door's girl cat, Kitty!
DeleteI much prefer my hair colour now. I thought it would be a nightmare getting rid of the black but luckily I'd always used semi permanent dye and it faded quite quickly. Not horrid line of regrowth!
Isn't it funny that C&A lives on in Belgium and the Netherlands? It was hugely popular here for decades!
Looking forward to Spoons - and my new dress! xxx
I can put in a good word for the wool dryer balls, I purchased some before Christmas and they have definitely cut down the drying time. I also got an egg shaped thingymebob that you use in the washer instead of powder or liquid and that’s got a big tick as well. It lasts for 70 washes. I’ve got a spare that’ll I send down to you.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you may have a new brother for Stephen. Cats are so funny aren’t they, they know which side their breads buttered. I’ve always said I’m coming back as a cat haha.
Love reading about your changing wardrobe thoughts. So nice to see your gorgeous frocks xxx
That's good to know, Lynn! I bet they won't be as noisy as the plastic soiky balls were. It's bed changing day tomorrow so I shall give them a whirl. I'm loving the sound of that egg - thank you so much! That'll be brilliant for laundering the stock.
DeleteI think Stephen needs a brother, he's always been vocal but he's slowly driving us daft with his incessant chatter, another cat to chat to might help! xxx
I suspect your visitor may be female - so if she/he stays Stephen Squirrel may be having a sister! (Torties tend to be - although not 100% guaranteed - female)
ReplyDeleteWatching and now reading about your wardrobe evolving has been interestting and I love it's present incarnation as you seem to source such beautiful items x
Thanks, Kate! We've been debating whether our visitor may be a girl because of her size and shape. We lost our beautiful torie, Polly, the day before Frank moved in. Stephen absolutely loathes next door's female cat but tolerates most male visitors - there could be trouble! xxx
DeleteIt's nice self awareness to dress and feel yourself in clothing that makes you happy. I'm still figuring it out. Your new friend will likely find you now each day, but likely always be his own. He's handsome but in a different way than your Stephen.
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky in that I don't have a dress code for work. Previous to my two wardrobes I had three, flamboyant 70s, traveller & work smart, I never knew where I was!
DeleteHe's got such a sweet face, hasn't he? xxx
You know I've always loved everything about your wardrobe, but I'm even more excited that it looks like Mr Squirrel may have a new brother! At my house all kitties are always welcome! :)
ReplyDeleteAs I am still going into an office to work, I still have the luxury of a big wardrobe - and I enjoy that I swap it over (it means I get to have double the clothes!) every 6 months. I admire that you've changed your look (I love your hair this lovely brown shade) - our tastes change as we get older, for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome cat that fellow is! Is he a stray or someone's mooching cat (I recall that Frank used to mooch food at the neighbours')? Stephen looks slightly outraged at the thought of another cat in the house!
I love that you get so much pleasure from your huge wardrobe, Sheila! The great thing about blogging is that I can look back at all those clothes I used to wear and remember them fondly without the need for them to be taking up valuable space in the wardrobe (or suitcases on top of it.)
DeleteI think he's from the cat colony in the next street, not owned but fed by the landowner. There used to be a lot of factories in Caldmore, the area of Walsall a few minutes walk from here, all of which had factory cats to keep down the rat and mouse populations. These cats are descendents of them, they're used to people but rather wary of getting to close. If it's possible we shall tame him! xxx
It looks like you're about to be adopted! What a sweet looking cat.
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you've found a way of making your summer clothes year-round. A halter top over a polo neck works too if you're really desperate to get the holiday clothes worn in winter.
Have a great Spoons visit.
I do hope so, one cat isn't enough!
DeleteI've layered up halternecks before, they do look good with polonecks and shirts, don't they?
I'm excited about Spoons, just done my lateral flow test just to be on the safe side. xxxx
I think your tortie visitor must be a girl. Re. Clockhouse, I have a long wool overcoat I bought when I lived in the UK in 1983 and still wear. I remember paying 35 pounds for it and thinking it was astronomically expensive. I think I've gotten my money's worth!
ReplyDeleteHello Barbara! We've been owned by a tortie before, our gorgeous girl Polly!
DeleteWhat value for money that coat was, still worn and enjoyed almost 40 years later. That's what I call value for money! xxx
Your outfits are so flamboyant! But I do like them.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Thanks, Dora! x
Deleteyou look so FABULOUS in your new outfit. loved the way you styled it. your styling is awesome, you give me alot of ideas. thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Leigh! x
DeleteThat dress is lovely. I have sent a few bits home. I got a bit giddy yesterday when I saw a tall fat lava vase for 4.50. The only problem is getting it home!! its lovely seeing your preloved items getting new love again. Sadly I’m to fat to fit in any of it lol. But I have a hire car today so I might go to some of the nicer towns that I know have clearance shops and I will have a good root around.
ReplyDeleteSince covid I cannot get back into reading I get lots of mind fog and then I start to feel really tired. When I go home I am going to have a proper check over a hair cut and a dye job!! Love and hugs allie
Hi Allie! What a shame about the Fat Lava! That one I bought before Xmas is a beast, it weighs a tonne, you'd be over your baggage alklowance trying to wrestle one of those home!
DeleteI hope you found soem good stuff in the clearance shops, even our rough towns have had some gems lately!
That must be really frustrating having the post-Covid brain fog, I know you're as mad about reading as I am. Take care. xxx
I am really glad you've explained the change of wardrobe choices to all this cotton printed style as I had been wondering the reason. I love your new regular style- it's so beautiful! Your new Karibu dress is a beauty! It really suits you (& I like the two ways you styled it very much!)
ReplyDeleteThe new cat is looking promising! I do hope you are chosen permanently! I also suspect that the cat may be a She as Tortie!
My mum just got 2 tabby kittens. She wanted a rescue cat and ideally a Tortie but the rescue charity said that as she lived on a main road it was a no. She's loving them so far!
Thanks, Kezzie! Holiday Vix has won. Let's hope it won't be too long before I can wear my Indian dresses in India again.
DeleteOur beautiful Polly was a tortie and very different in looks to this one. I thought he/she was a tabby because of the "M" on its forehead but I could be wrong, all cats are fab!
I'm excited to hear about your mum's kittens, can we have a blog post? xxx
It has been many years since my last spoons All-Dayer :) Definitely BL (Before Lily)
ReplyDeleteI like your new visitor, he clearly has good taste. Fingers crossed he might hang around. X
Goodness me, you're well overdue for an all-dayer, give it another few years and Lily will be joining you!
DeleteI'm liking the new visitor, too - such a sweet face! xxx
Well done for discovering Kharibu - your new dresses are gorgeous. Very tempted to order the chestnut maxi dress they have in the sale. Loving all your block printed outfits and how you are styling them and agree that there does not seem to be a separate winter and summer season for clothes anymore, just a thick wool cardi and secret leggings for me under the dresses I wear in 70 degree summer weather! Hope the lovely cat isn't Six Dinners Sid!
ReplyDeleteHello Amanda and thank you! Funnily enough, it was a toss up between the blue and the chestnut - as I loved both. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you decide to treat yourself. Its a website well worth keeping your eye on.
DeleteSecret leggings! Maybe M&S ought to rename theirs!
He's getting though six dinners a daty here at the moment, he'll be enormous if he's eating elsewhere. xxx
It looks like you've been adopted by a cat, it's nice to be chosen isn't it nice to be chosen.
ReplyDeleteThey used to call the 1970's the decade that fashion forgot, but I love seeing things coming back in that I used to wear as a teenager and suddenly being appreciated, although i doubt my multi-coloured Oxford bags will ever be in fashion again!!
Oh and yes, I remember the C&A label Clockhouse. My bridesmaids, aged 12. 13 and 14 all wore Gypsy style burgundy dresses from the sale there. Yep, I had a really 1970's bargain basement wedding.
It does feel very special to be chosen by a cat, they're such discerning creatures!
DeleteYou wouldn't believ how many people ask us for Oxford Bags and in all my years of vintage collecting (I started when I was 11) I've yet to find a pair! I'm liking the sound of the burgundy gypsy bridesmaids dresses! xxx
Dear Vix,
ReplyDeleteI think it's lovely that the new cat has come calling! There is nothing that warms my heart more that the "unwanted" finding a place where he/she/they feel safe -- people, animals, and clothes! :) I will continue to follow along. I know it has been a long time, but I always read and follow along with your peaceful, contented life.
Xo Mei
Lovely to hear from you, Mei! I was only thinking of you the other day and hoping all was well with you. Happy New Year. xxx
DeleteIsn't it amazing what a difference a piece of clothing can make? When we wear clothes that feel like 'us', it is such a great feeling. I remember your Indian travels and how you wrote about their traditional dress making and shared ethical made in India brands. I know that you always loved sharing the traditional block printed maxi dresses you bought in India. You're right in figuring out that all it takes to wear those beautiful Indian cotton dresses all year around is to layer them well. So, I'd say it was a right choice selling those vintage pieces that you didn't enjoyed as much anymore and swapping them for Indian pieces you love so much. It's wonderful that you now have a wardrobe you love even more. Those are some fabulous dresses you're rocking in this post.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love the new cat guest. I have a feeling he might keep popping in.
You're right, Ivana! They're never "just clothes", they're mood enhancers, ice-breakers and often hold lots of happy memories. Investing in decent thermals and socks have made my Indian cotton dresses winter-proof.xxx
DeleteI love that shirred maxi, and it's perfect with the gilet.
ReplyDeleteI do so agree about wearing things for more of the year. I find I can wear most of my light Burbo dresses in the cold weather as long as I have a long sleeved top and leggings underneath. The same goes for that lovely dress I bought from Kinky recently. :)
Your new visitor is just gorgeous. I hope he/she decides to stay.
I'm intrigued by the dryer balls. We also only use our tumble dryer for towels and heavy stuff in the winter. I use a clothes horse for most of it, and outside in the summer. Apart from environmental issue, I can't bear paying the energy companies any more than I have to :) Let us know how you get on with them xx
Hello Annie & thanks! Its all down to the long-sleeved top and leggings (and decent socks), too. I always used to feel sad packing my lightweight dresses away and its a revelation to wear them all year round, it makes me feel that Summer is just around the corner.
DeleteI'm really impressed with those wool balls, I tumble-dried the bedding yesterday and they cut the drying time down by 20 minutes. I also threw an unwashed wool charity shop coat into the tumble drier for 15 minutes with them and it took away the musty smell - a result! xxx
I wonder if the cat is a stray or just a greedy pig? We had a cat when the children were small and it used to go to a neighbour for food as well as being well fed at our house. Eventually it stopped coming home to us and stayed with the neighbour!
ReplyDeleteThe new dresses look gorgeous and the one you wore in the photos and in the animated photo were so lovely on you. The shaggy waistcoat was a great find. It's a bit of a revelation to wear lighter weight clothing in the winter months but it is doable as you say. I'm wearing a cotton maxi skirt today over fleece lined leggings and it's fine. Of course, I always have layers under my top half; I'm passionately attached to my vests...
Glad you found a new William Morris address book. I believe Barnardo's do them as part of their non donated lines. Our shop doesn't stock them as we're too small but the one in Kempston does.
As usual you found some wonderful items in the chazzas; I really like the Anokhi shirt, and the M&S Per Una midi dress. The wooden hair slide was so cute.
Have a great week
xxx
They do say that cats rarely overeat - but there's no stopping this one! I think he's a feral beast from the cat colony round the corner, they are fed but not owned. He/she's very wary of humans but is gradually getting closer. If anyone can tame him, it's Jon the cat whisperer!
DeleteI'm passionately attached to my thermal polo neck and leggings, as long as I've got them on I can survive anything the British weather throws at me!
We don't have any new stuff in our Banardos either. I got a fabulous William Morris calendar from the Cancer UK post Xmas sale the year before last but they didn't seem to to them this year.
I don't know what's happened to Per Una lately, they've really upped their game. No weird asymetric hems or sequin-trimmed applique flowers! xxx
Lovely new visitor, he/she has lots of personality for sure!. And Mr. Squirrell doesn't look pleased at all!
ReplyDeleteI think that our style evolves all the time, sometimes because of changes in our lifestyle, other times because of coming to a realisation, becoming more Ourselves. Having a blog makes all the process more visible!. I've also noticed that I've changed and now I want to wear whatever makes me happy the whole year round!
Your block printed maxis are a joy for the eyes, dear Vix, and you rock them with your fab styling!. Love particularly the faux fur gillet and snake boots!. So cool!
besos
Thanks Monica! He's a pretty one (and hungry!)
DeleteI definitely think the last two years has had a big influence on how I dress and it's definitely more for me - more laid back and less dressy. I love how we can look back over the years at our changes in style (and looks) by having a blog! xxx
That looks a lovely cat Vix-I wonder if the little thing is homeless? A lady around the corner from me said the cat relaxing in her garden had just walked in one day and decided to stay-She does have a very nice house-The cat has very good taste x
ReplyDeleteHow lovely for the lady round the corner, her new cat must have excellent taste.
DeleteI think he/she is a resident at the cat colony over the road, they're fed by the landlord but outdoor/feral cats. I've seen this pretty one around the area but I know all the neighbours cats and he's not one of them. xxx
Evening there Vix! as a long time lurker before I started commenting I had noticed the change in your wardrobe. and while I love all your looks I can see you feel so at home in the clothes you wear now. Love the hair too. Love the fact you may have another permanent feline additionxx Our rescue boy and girl are doing fine. Shazxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Shaz! I'm so happy that you stopped being a lurker and that I've got to know you over the last two years! I'm so pleased that your rescue boy & girl are doing well. This might be a slow process, he/she is very wary! xxx
DeleteI think you may have been auditioned to be Adopted by a certain handsome Fur Baby?
ReplyDeleteI think you're right, Dawn. We don't get a choice, once a cat has deemed you suitable, they move in. xxx
DeleteHello Vix, I have so enjoyed catching up with my blog reading . I have been showing John your posts on your National Trust property visits as I am trying to convince him a `return visit to the UK is in order when we next travel.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting how our tastes change over time , the wonderful Indian dresses are so you.
Hello Jill! Happy New Year. When you do revisit have a look at the NT website, they offer 7 and 14 day tourist passes for couples, they're really good value and there's a huge choice of houses and gardens to visit. xxx
DeleteAs a long-time supporter of organizations serving feral cats, I'm convinced cats possess psychic powers. Not only can they mentally warn other felines of traps, they can also alert them to available accommodations. Clearly, Tortie has tired of living rough and has decided to investigate your vacancy (posted as 5*). Hope this works out for all concerned!
ReplyDeleteHello Beth! I think you're right about cats and their psychic powers. Maybe he/she has secret information that we're in for snow and needs to find a warm and loving home pronto! xxx
DeleteAm I right in thinking Clockhouse was C&A Vix? If so, I grew up in it! Fab idea for the thermals. It is freezing cold at work (open windows!) so I've been wearing three jumpers, hat and ski leggins under trousers... oh, and fingerless gloves. Loving your new eBay dresses. You are good to the local cats. Lulu xXx
ReplyDeleteYes, you're right. Clockhouse was the trendy bit, Yessica was the bit for sophisticated ladies and Canda the bog standard stuff. I remember Rodeo as well, it was their skiwear section! Working outside must be a real challenge. I used to look like the Michelin Man when I traded on Nottingham Market! xxx
DeleteYour handsome tortoiseshell visitor knows a soft hearted person when he sees one. You may be just one stop on his daily tour, but he may again decide that you are the preferred breakfast/lunch/dinner provider. I wouldn't be able to resist feeding him either!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of having a wardrobe you can wear year round, but sadly, here in SW Ontario in Canada, it's not really practical as we have been getting lots of hot, humid days in the summer, and as for the winter, it's been -15 to -24 the past few days.
I think there must be a sign on the gate only to visible to cats, letting others know that all will be fed by the people who live there! He's back every day, it's all rather exciting.
DeleteIt must be lovely to have discernable seasons, rather than 12 months of mediocre weather with the odd heatwave or snowstorm! xxx
The British Vogue review written about Kharibu could have been written by you- it perfectly reflects your ethos!
ReplyDeleteI love your block printed dresses. X
Thanks, Jess! x
