Autumnal Vibes - My Week In Vintage

Oh, season of mists and manic leaf sweeping. With twenty-seven trees in our garden raking has become a full-time job of late but it keeps us fit and warm so I can't complain. Relentless it may be, there's no excuse to schlep around in scruffs, my boots may be vintage Biba but they're comfy and waterproof and always make me feel fabulous no matter how mundane the task.

WEARING: We're both charity shopped from head to toe!
V: Vintage 1960s psych maxi by Hilary Floyd of London & 1970s wool felt hat  J: Vintage St Michael lambswool polo neck, original 1970s pinstriped blazer, Jones the Bootmaker Chelsea boots, black skinnies

On Sunday we were trading at Moseley, our penultimate fair of the year. As the last two had clashed with Glastonbury & End of The Road, it felt like an age since we'd last set up our pitch on the stage, our regular spot.

We had a fantastic day both with sales and catching up with friends we hadn't seen for months. Organisers Graziella and Steve are taking a well-earned break from running fairs next year to concentrate on their Digbeth-based shop Moseley Vintage Hub which specialises in quality vintage, industrial, mid-century furniture and vinyl records. Find them HERE.

The details: Vintage label, Indian brass earrings bought in Tamil Nadu in 2010, Vintage Egyptian Revival pendant in Lapis Lazuli & 9ct gold by Thomas Fattorini of Birmingham (part of a set, 50th birthday present from Jon)

I treated myself to this quilted, Indian block print waistcoat from Second To None - Walsall's legendary Walsall vintage shop - who also trade at the fair.

The next day I wore it with a Dollyrockers maxi which I bought from Second to None in 2009....

...and spent the day in Wetherspoons.

Details: Dollyrockers label, this week's nail paint, 1970s Sheffield steel choker.

We haven't been out hunting this week as Frank's not been well. At first the vet thought he'd been in a fight (which wouldn't be the first time) and had prescribed antibiotics for an abscess on his face but here's no improvement so he's got to undergo a biopsy tomorrow. It's somewhat fortuitous me finding the Droopy and Browns dress and Marni jewellery last week as the vet's bill is going to be astronomical.

Talking of Marni, here's the rest of it.

My Indian gauze Mayur dress served me well through Spring and Summer...

And today it's getting an Autumnal outing.

Close-ups: Dress details, Rajasthani earrings, my right hand!

Thank goodness for blogging. My head's all over the place this week, I'm so grateful to be able to focus my thoughts on pretty vintage clothes and distract myself by reading about my virtual friends' lives.

See you soon.

    1. Its amazing what you come across in our local chazza, isn't it? I bet the prices would have been crazy in a posh area where the shop managers know their designer labels. x

  3. Thanks for the close up of that beautiful necklace. Get well, kitty!

  4. Love the pretty Mayur dress, it really suits you. That Marnii jewellery is, hope you don't mind me saying, somewhat an acquired taste, I quite like the pink cat. Sorry about old Frank, Amber had something similar 2 weeks back which turned out to be a lost tooth, hope Frank hasn't got anything serious, our pets are such precious friends. I'm busy doing my luggage post, just waiting for those tees to arrive, Betty x

  5. I hate to hear about fur babies that aren't well. I'm sending positive vibes along for Frank's quick recovery.

I'm glad your last show went well and you picked up another item for your collection of Indian block prints. It's fantastic how it goes so well with your dress.

I hope the right buyers come along for those Marni pieces. I've learned as a reseller one sometimes needs to be patient.

When my head's in a better place I'll pop those Marni pieces on eBay, hopefully they'll attract a few enthusiasts. x

  6. Poor Frank. I do hope he will be ok.

Your outfits are simply beautiful. Loving the humongous sleeves on the first dress, the purple outfit is 'second to none' - haha! Loving the accessories. The Egyptian revival pendant is simply stunning; I love the scarab beetle and I love lapis lazuli. What good taste Jon has!

The Marni jewellery is fab. I hope you make a mint from it...

    Fingers crossed for Frank.

  7. Oh poor Frank! Keeping my fingers crossed and sending over some healing vibes. I can truly imagine how worried you are. You and Jon both look like the epitome of fabulousness presiding over the Kinky pitch. Good you hear sales went well and your were able to catch up with your friends. Your quilted Indian block print looks a treat combined with that gorgeous Dollyrockers frock. What a fabulous colour. That Marni jewellery is all kinds of gorgeous. Let's hope that they, and the Droopy & Browns dress find a new home very soon! xxx

  11. I hope Frank will feel better soon and that biopsy will show that it isn't something serious. Your collection of maxi dresses always impresses me. I especially love the purple one you paired with a purple vest. The golden maxi dress is gorgeous too. You look great in all of these looks!

    1. Thanks for the well wishes, Kezzie.
The mannequin is wearing a near-duplicate copy of the outfit I tend to live in (but rarely get round to photographing) - if that dress was my size it wouldn't be on the rails. xxx

  14. Sending good vibes for dear Frank! It's heartwrenching when our furry boys are ill. :(

That Marni jewelry is kind of odd, isn't it? I like the 3-circle necklace but the rest of it is not to my taste. I hope you sell it for a bundle!

Your scarab necklace has me drooling - well done, Jon - that is all kinds of amazing! You wear it well, Vix!

    1. Thanks, Sheila.
The three circle necklace would be my choice, too - it doesn't really float my boat either. I wonder if people are more drawn to designer labels than the actual design? xxx

  15. Keeping my fingers crossed that Frank gets better soon. It's such a worry when someone in the family isn't well. The worst part of it is pets can't tell us what hurts.

Both you and Jon are doing a great job of modelling your gorgeous outfits. Love that brown number - the print is gorgeous. Equally fantastic is the Dollyrockers maxi with the waistcoat; they seem made for each other. Your green clogs go perfect with your Mayur dress. I have clog envy!

Hope you make some fine dollars on the Marni jewellery; it's not to my taste (sorry), I much prefer your silver pieces instead. How on earth do you manage to keep your jewellery from going black - I hardly wear mine nowadays because the silver goes black so quickly and I'm sick of cleaning them! Your Mr. has a good eye for picking necklaces. Lucky you!

    1. Thanks so much, Suzy.
I'm much more of a silver jewellery person. I find wearing it all the time stops it from tarnishing but once or twice a year I line a deep baking dish with foil, add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (or baking powder to it), fill it will boiling water and leave my jewellery to soak for half an hour, it really brings out their shine. xxx

  19. So sorry to hear about Frank. It's so upsetting when a pet is under the weather. A couple of months ago, the whippet had 28 teeth taken out and it was horrendous but he recovered so quickly. They're remarkably resilient, aren't they, so here's hoping your puddy tat will be absolutely fine x

  20. Poor Frank, sending good vibes and hugs for all you!
And totally agree that some blogging therapy could help to cheer up a bad day!. Love to see you doing some mundane tasks in your beautiful booties, love to have a look at your fabulous stall and the beautiful accessories you wore (the egyptian pendant is so cool!) and love to see you looking so gorgeous in your lavender/purple dress with the perfect waistcoat! And love that you wear your gauze dress under your coat, so fabulous!. These things put a smile on my face!
I'm admiring those Marni pieces and hope you get a Massive Profit from them!.

I cant help noticing your accessories! The Egyptian revivalist is a beauty. I really like that Sheffield Steel necklace too, I like a bit of modernist jewellery.

  22. This post is dazzling with your palette of vivid blues! There's no doubt the Cleopatra's would have flourished your nail paint with their own lapis lazuli jewelry if they could.

There seems to be an epidemic of bone infections among "mature" cats. YouTube super star Lil Bub now has a permanent lump on her jaw from this ailment (and she receives the best vet care available, fragile little lady that she is.)

  27. I love that you rake fallen leaves in vintage Biba, I'd expect nothing less :)
The waistcoat was made to be worn with that Dollyrockers maxi, what a lovely way to add a little warmth.
I hope Frank is OK. These are the times I wish cats could talk, so they could tell us what's wrong. Sending positive vibes.
