What a miserable few days...rain, rain and more rain. Despite the inclement weather it hasn't stopped us from going out stock hunting. Crazy season is rapidly approaching, we're booked into seven festivals and our vintage stall needs to be bursting with interesting stock all Summer long. In contrast to the bleak grey of the towns we visit, the lush spring greenery of our garden serves up a far prettier backdrop to this week's outfits whilst our urban forest provides welcome shelter from the incessant rain. Tuesday's dress, a 1970s maxi by Australian label Lady Lichfield, which I've owned for five years, blends in almost seamlessly with the last of the bluebells.
A few people commented that this photo looked like a painting so, as you can see, I messed around with a free programme I found to turn it into one.

A lucky £5 charity shop find last year, my 1960s-does-Edwardian gauzy cotton dress by Dollyrockers, had an outing on Wednesday (with added thermals, the UK has been subjected to unseasonably chilly 8° temperatures all week).
I don't often wear brooches but at 50p I couldn't resist this vintage agate monster found in a charity shop last year, just look at the size of it.
On Thursday the insane giraffes made a welcome return.
Bought a fortnight ago, this print never fails to provoke a reaction, even the DPD man - delivering Gilbert's replacement skylight - remarked that he'd never seen anything quite like it.
Check out the £1 Art Nouveau brass belt buckle from Age UK that Jon treated me to this week, he certainly knows how to spoil a girl! Sometimes I think he's a better charity shopper than I am.
Today (Friday) I'm wearing another of my 1960s gauzy cotton Dollyrockers dresses. This one was £10 back in 2009, so on a cost per wear basis - even if I'd only worn it once a year - it would be value for money.
I won't share a photo of the label as it's identical to the one on Wednesday's dress.
We've had sunshine with our showers today and, in between the regular deluges, it's actually felt quite warm. Jacob's emerged from his straw bedding to demand wild rocket, forget-me-nots and dandelions and he's lucky, they all grow in abundance in our
As it's rapidly approaching festival season I thought I'd better get these Docs worn in which, if you recall, I found unworn and still in their box in a charity shop last year. The actual foot bit is brilliant but the tongue is still a bit on the stiff side so I've been pottering around the garden in them and just walked round the corner to the post box to mail our postal votes for the Euro elections. A few more hours a day and they might be ready for Glastonbury....
See you soon!

Oh my gosh! So many gorgeous florals! The lilac dress is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz! x
Deleteawe Spring! When everything is blooming and the pollen is insane. May 10 and we haven't turned the A/C on…..yet
ReplyDeleteA/C
Delete? I don't think the UK would ever be hot enough for that! x
Gosh that first photo/painting of you in the garden is stunning!
ReplyDeleteWe've also had some cool weather around 8 C. It doesn't really feel like we've had much of a spring at all.
I scored a great patchwork leather jacket today that reminded me of one you recently thrifted. I think it was a men's jacket you had.
Part of the reason I love buying thrifted footwear is because they've already been broken in for me.
Have a great weekend!

All of a sudden our weather has leapt into Summer but I shan't be packing anything away just yet!
DeleteHow exciting about the jacket, I'd love to find one in my size! x
That dress next to those flowers, it does indeed look like a painting. Jon's got great taste, that art nouveau buckle is awesome. I hate breaking in shoes - I hope they become more comfortable.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think that the person who donated the boots would have had the decency to wear them in, wouldn't you? It;s crazy that somebody spends over £100 on a pair of Docs and gives them away to charity unworn! x
DeleteAll of your dresses are equally beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love those Doc's, I have to be careful as the lace ups are just wrong for my feet, I have buckle ups and everyone always comments on them and they're so comfortable too.
Your garden is looking trippy green! It's been a bit warmer here but still far too cold for May. Bring on the sun. xxx
Thanks, Sally! My lavender DM Pascals are a dream, the leather is beautifully soft, the patent ones are notorious for being hard to wear in, I'll get there in the end! xxx
DeleteYou and the bluebells are the most beautiful piece of art!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dresses and cool docs - Jacob is a lucky turtle to live in such a lush garden....
Xxxx
Thanks, Beate! xxx
DeleteI'm calling you 'The Bluebell Lady'! I had to look really hard to see which was the painted effect one and which was a photograph - you look beautiful in both. All the dresses were gorgeous; such lovely blues and lilacs but the Insane Giraffe is just magnificent! Loved all the jewellery and the ginormous agate brooch looks very Victorian so very appropriate for the dress!
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to tell you but keep forgetting, my brother is playing at Glastonbury this year too with Steeleye Span. I'm going to tell him to come and say hello to you on my behalf if he can.
The weather has been horrible; we've lit the fire every evening. Hope it gets better for the weekend. Have a good one...
xxxx
I hope your brother fins the time to pop in and say hello. Can't he bring you as his guest? How much fun would that be? xxx
DeleteMy first thought was "Vix is in a painting"! All the dresses in the garden are too gorgeous for words. And you in them, of course. So nice to see Thomas gazing adoringly at you Docs. It's been raining here too, constantly and quite cool. Whatever.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pao! Hope your rain has done one and you're enjoying sunshine like ours! xxx
DeleteYou are indeed a portrait of loveliness, Vix! Sitting amongst greenery is always calming and soothing. Lovely dresses (label! yes!), that bigass brooch is amazing, mmm, want blue Docs now, and ooh, a tortoise! Have you read the book "Come Thou, Tortoise"? It's a book we read in Book Club a few years back, and has stuck with me.
ReplyDeleteSending you good vibes across the continent and the sea! Happy weekend!
I've tracked down a secondhand "Come Thou, Tortoise", it looks interesting. Thanks for the recommendation, Sheila! xxx
DeleteYour collection of dresses is wonderful to behold! I do absolutely love the giraffe one though! It is so beautiful!!!x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kezzie! I just love those giraffes! x
DeleteIt does look like a painting - a gorgeous one! Loved your array of pretty and unique dresses, decorated with a massive brooch and that fantastic belt, such a perfect addition to giraffes! I also enjoyed the video! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Natalia! xxx
DeleteYour dress is Australian? I love that! Plus the fact that it matches the bluebells.
ReplyDeleteYour Dollyrockers finds are always great. I wish they were more readily available in Australia. The ones I’ve seen online are always quite expensive.
The belt is just wonderful. Jon’s a keeper! Initially I thought it was a lion’s head belt, but the face was a nice surprise.
And Jacob…he’s adorable. Does he like the cold weather?
Thanks, Jess! Yes, it was a gift from Helga many years ago. I've a few Australian and New Zealand labels in my collection.
DeleteSome sellers ask insane prices for Dollyrockers dresses but I've found plenty of affordable ones - keep checking eBay. You'll find one in the end. xxx
Lovely frocks and what a great song!
ReplyDeleteThanks you! that song always makes me happy! xxx
DeleteVictoria among the bluebells would be the perfect title for that painting! That Dollyrockers dress is making my heart sing, while seeing the giraffe dress again put a huge smile on my face. I love that belt Jon found you. I wonder, would he be prepared to teach Jos? Those Docs are a fabulous colour, I hope you are able to get them worn in in time for festival season. Oh, and hello, Jacob! xxx
ReplyDeleteThat title makes me sound very ladylike and sophisticated, which I am, of course!!
DeleteI can lend Jon out for lessons if you like, he's a good 'un! xxx
Ah, it's good to see Jacob pottering about again. How long have you been together now? It does speak well of you, Vix, that Herr Herrmann is in good nick after your adventures -- and how happy he must be that you've both landed in this garden wilderness! You do indeed resemble a painting: "Lady among Bluebells".
ReplyDeleteThanks, Beth! I think it's been 44 years that I've owned Jacob. I've a photo somewhere with the exact date I got him, I must dig it out and share it. xxx
DeleteI've been wearing thermals underneath my 'Spring wear' too, very sensible and at least you get to show off fab frocks and not hide them under jumpers! Let's hope it warms up soon xx
ReplyDeleteThermals are the best, we're all bored of winter clobber now, aren't we? xxx
DeleteThat first maxi dress does blend in nicely with the last of the bluebells. Such a beautiful dress! The photograph taken in the garden does look like a painting, even without the editing. Lovely greenary serves as a perfect background for that blue floral dress. The second dress is very pretty too....a great find too. The small floral print is so lovely. The third dress is a beauty. It makes me think Sicily, D&G and Italian design, maybe also because of that buckle that makes me think Versace. Jon has a great eye. That belt is simply the perfect pairing with that dress. The purple dress is wonderful as well, especially paired with those doc martens. I had my pair since I was an adolescent and they're the most rain proof shoes imaginable.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ivana! Great minds! When I saw that giraffe dress I did think it was rather Versace-like with its outrageous print and bold colour scheme and the belt buckle reminded me of their logo!
DeleteDocs are great, the eyelets don't leak unlike cheaper versions. Fancy still having the ones you owned as a teen. I wore mine throughout the 1980s and they wore out completely in the end! xxx

DeleteHello Jacob! We've had a damp and chilly Spring so far which has dampened my spirits considerably. Those dresses are so pretty, and you wear that style so beautifully. I think the insane giraffe print has to be one of my all time favourite dresses of yours. Jon has a great eye for accessories - what a fab belt buckle!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't this incessant rain sap our enthusiasm for life? The sunny weather we've enjoyed for the last three days makes me so happy and I'm constantly doing stuff, almost like I'm solar powered! xxx
Deleteso many fabulous dresses, I love all those florals and cool sleeves, but have a weakness for the giraffes dress (totally my kind of print! and Giraffes!!!) and the purple one with the blue martens, which totally rock!
ReplyDeleteYou look particularly gorgeous and whimsical in the first picture, glad that you created some art with it!
besos
Thanks, Monica! I think that giraffe dress will be a favourite for many years, i just love it. xxx
DeleteOh hey Jacob! looking good. And Vix, you are lovely in these vintage frocks - each one you've personalized as your own. Your lush garden is the perfect backdrop. xox
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Patti! xxx
DeleteTuesday's dress (and photo) are divine, just look at those sleeves! Nice to see Jacob up and about. We had Tommy to stay at the weekend and I spent ages walking with him around the garden, it was so relaxing, he's such a sweet thing.
ReplyDeleteThe sun has come out, let's hope it stays a while.
xx
Aww, I love having a walk around the garden with Jacob. I wish you didn't live so far away, Tommy and Jacob could have a playdate! xxx
DeleteThat agate is a beautiful beast!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice having a garden to get out in. Yours always looks idyllic - and you do look like a painting sitting there!
Isn't it fab? Couldn't leave that behind! xxx
DeleteThe first photos. - you remind me of the Lady of Shallot. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLovely to hear from you! xxx
DeleteFantastic dresses - and thanks for the Laura Mvula, wonderful!
