I could tell you about last week's second-hand finds, our crazy Saturday night out with some vintage-selling mates or Friday's gin-fuelled lunch with a girlfriend or shown off what I've sewn over the weekend or the two killer curries I've cooked but we've got a date with Wetherspoons in a bit and if we leave soon I might be able to visit the town centre chazzas first. So here's an outfit post instead.
Nikki, the friend I met on Friday, had recently had a massive declutter and offered her unwanted vintage clothing to us. We've got loads in common, a love of India, cats, gin & vegetarian food and a mutual love for hippy-tastic 1970s fashion, so it was extremely tempting just to transfer all of her stuff directly into my wardrobe.
In the end I just "borrowed" this 1970s German-made purple lace maxi. After a couple of washes Nikki said it had gone a bit strange, the seams had disintegrated and it had lost its shape. I restitched the side seams and unpicked the hem, cutting around the edge of the lace and leaving it raw. It's not perfect but it'll do for me.
This Panda, England 1960s hat is probably the maddest piece of headgear I own, the studded band is aluminium. It's almost as cool as the one Cher's wearing here.

Forget Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, Cher is the ultimate vintage goddess in my book.
Wearing: Purple lace maxi, vintage velvet jacket with insane sleeves (Liebchen Vintage), Original 1970s leopard platforms (eBay), 1960s hat (Birmingham Settlement charity shop, 2011), tribal jewellery (India) |
Linking to Visible Monday - check Patti out, she's looking amazing in a Kinky Melon maxi!
Hmmm....shall I have a naked burrito or a haloumi & sweet chilli wrap?
From the day I "met" you, I thought "Cher"!
ReplyDeleteyep,, Cher,, all the way,,,

ReplyDeleteWOW! Absolutely superb this clothing inspired by Che!
I love this woman and you're perfect!

Love everything about your outfit especially the colours on you.
ReplyDeleteHow odd you should mention Cher though, I read somewhere only yesterday that she is very poorly. Xxx
Well you know how much I love a good velvet jacket! What a piece!
ReplyDeleteOften I think of Cher when I see you.
Sounds like fun although I must say it doesn't sound like you've slowed down a bit!
bisous
Suzanne
Perfect outfit! You look as cool as Cher and probably turn just as many heads when you walk down the street.
ReplyDeleteYou and Cher, two raven haired goddesses! Thanks for linking, xox

My favourite colour purple , You look amazing as usual xxx
ReplyDeleteLovely embossed pattern on your purple dress and I love the hat - why don't we wear hats these days? they finish an outfit beautifully. Since you blogged the headscarf book Amazon seem to be shifting a few copies! now look what you've started!
ReplyDeleteYou look fab in purple!
ReplyDeleteCher is great. Like Dolly Parton, there is something about Cher that goes beyond people's liking or disliking. They are above all that.
Looking stunning there, Vix. The purple and brown colour combo goes well together. I totally love that jacket and can see why it must be a favourite with you.
ReplyDeleteCher is one amazing woman. I remember seeing a photo of her wearing a military-style crash helmet whilst riding a black beast of a Harley Davidson and she looked the epitome of cool. You just know that Cher isn't just posing on it, she can probably burn-off most of the blokes on it too. A woman after my own heart xxx
The hat and skirt are fab, but the jacket is my favorite! It's just amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteYou've got me babe. What an amazing jacket.
ReplyDeleteYou look better than Cher! x
ReplyDeleteI love the purple dress, and the velvet jacket, and the cool looking hat, but what I love the most here is the way your hands look with that nail polish, the beautiful rings and bracelets! You're the best.
ReplyDeleteI have always had a love for Cher! It seems that certain outfits you wear look like they belonged to Cher at one point in time. She seemed to match her outfits not only with jewerly, but with her makeup and nail polish. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI think you should order them all!
ReplyDeleteHeart be still for that outfit. I can't keep my eyes off of those SLEEVES! You could house a whole family of pugs in there. Wildly impractical, hence the love. And the band on the hat? Yes, give me Cher in a Bob Mackie gown. That woman has style. And of course so do you!! Love your headline. Heh.
What a beautiful dress! The colour is fab and the hat is just made for it. And I just absolutely love the jacket with the 'insane sleeves' - absolutely glorious and deeply reminiscent of Biba clothes.
ReplyDeleteI would have had both lunch choices - they sound delicious, although on second thoughts burritos are very filling....
See you at Patti's - she's got fruitcake today!
oh yes - early cher!
ReplyDeletei love the hat! that metallic hat band - awesome!!!
have fun in the pub!! xxxxx
Halloumi, halloumi!!!! That maxi is brilliant!!! I've always loved that hat of yours and yes, you are Cher!!! Didn't realise that band was aluminum, how curious!!!Xx
ReplyDeleteHaving seen that velvet jacket with the amazing sleeves in the flesh (so to speak), I can vouch for how marvellous it is, and doesn't it look fab with your new-to-you lace maxi? It's interesting how a lot of people like their vintage to be absolutely immaculate; it doesn't bother me at all if clothes are a wee bit rough around the edges, the flaws and quirks are evidence of life being lived, aren't they? The same can be said of people - perfection isn't necessarily that appealing!
ReplyDeleteI love love love the hat and the unusual metal band. You definitely do a good Cher, she wore some incredible outfits. So glad you had a raucous weekend, hope your lunchtime session in 'Spoons was a good 'un, and I'll "see" you Wednesday for the interviews!
Love you! xxxxx
Those colours look sensational together and just for the record I think your hat has the edge on Cher's. What is going on with her fingernails btw? No doubt the blokes in 'Spoons had their eyes firmly fixed on you. Loving your BM necklace also. xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteYou and Cher are both amazing ladies with fabulous style and your are definitely both style icons. I love Cher. She is such a fashion chameleon but very much her own woman. I am sure though that you turn as many heads in your fabulous outfits. That hat is pretty amazing. I have never seen one with a metal band. Fits well given it is a Brummie hat :DHope you had a great day. Halloumi for me please! Xx
ReplyDeleteamazing outfit, love that purple lace dress (glad you could revamp it!) and your leopard booties and fabulous hat and even more fabulous sleeves!, oh yes, you're absolutely gorgeous and funky!
ReplyDeleteLovely and inspiring by Cher, what else?
besos
I love the amazing purple hat/dress/jacket combo! :) And your whole style, as always
ReplyDeleteI was wondering when you were going to let out your inner Cher. When I was a little girl in the late 60's, Sonny and Cher played a concert in my little town. My father was a friend of the Master of Ceremonies and we were allowed backstage after the show. Unfortunately Sonny & Cher had left for dinner but I did get to go through Cher's closet. I remember lots of satin and lots of feathers. I think you are even more gorgeous than she was.
ReplyDeleteYou look fab! And those sleeeeeeves! Wonderful! I do love good sleeves xx
ReplyDeleteYour purple hat brought back memories, I used to have one very similar in the sixies. I wore it with a mini skirt, long boots and a short cape to work in London. Those were the days!!
ReplyDeleteCher is a total icon! I love your hat and frock - did you go with the haloumi? It's one of my favourite things :)
ReplyDeleteOh, this jacket with its fantastic sleeves! Such a stunner! As well as this unusual hat and the tribal necklace. The dress looks all right on photos, love its colour!
ReplyDeleteCher often springs to mind when I read your posts, and that hat looks awesome on you. The purple dress is just gorgeous! xx
ReplyDeletevix we were watching an old rerun of a sony and cher christmas special last night and it was eerie how much you two look alike! love that hat on your gorgeous head. xo
ReplyDeleteTalk about a Hat Attack. The Panda England hat with studded band is a beauty! And I'm lusting over the sleeves on your vintage jacket. Nikki has a great eye, like you!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Kinky Melon maxi that Patti is wearing!
That jacket is incredible (I'm such a slob I could never manage the sleeves) on you, and the combination of brown and purple works so much better than I would have imagined.
ReplyDeleteI've always found you very "Cher", so it's not a surprise that she is one of your style goddesses. I was a devoted fan of the Sonny and Cher show when I was a kid, and would practice my "Cher Hair flip" in the mirror. I still think she's totally fab, even though none of her face muscles move.
ReplyDeleteDelicious hat - the hat band is very rock and roll.
Hard for me not to be jealous of that outfit, esp that jacket, Vix~
ReplyDeleteSo did you choose the burrito or the wrap? xox
Adore purple and brown. That hat! Those sleeves!! <3 xo Jazzy Jack
ReplyDeleteYou are the best Cher-alike I've seen - and halloumi!
ReplyDeleteThat hat is the greatest piece ever, I'd probably wear it everyday if I had one. Beautiful lace and purple suits you well! x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful dress! x
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful color combination, among other things. Beautiful dress, glad you were able to save it - you look amazing in this outfit!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit, I´m sure Cher would like it too :-)
ReplyDeleteYou and Cher overflows with toughness.
ReplyDeleteYou look fab in that hat ... every bit as glamourise as Cher. But my favourite bit is that jacket ... those sleeves are to die for.
ReplyDeletexx
You actually could be Cher's twin in the crazy hat pictures. Wouldn't it be great if she somehow found your blog? Your her natural successor with your looks and killer styling. I love that brown jacket so much, and it looks beautifully wintery with the purple lace maxi. Well done on saving the dress, by the way. Bet you felt a deep sense of satisfaction over that. You've been busy in a good way. Ooh, halloumi and sweet chilli wrap I reckon! Xxxx
ReplyDeleteLove this purple dress and hat combo. Cher is a true fashion icon x

I saw Sonny and Cher when I was about 10 years old at the local auditorium in my mid American town. It blew my tiny mind! We sat out back of the building so we could see her walk in from the limo and up close she was magnificent. Your style always reminds me of her, and I too love her, but have absolutely no chance of looking remotely like you, ha ha! LOVE this outfit, it's perfect on you and the hat, like most of your accessories, makes it. x
