Scrubs up alright, doesn't he?
Here comes Ellen and Sarah in our transport to last night's National Vintage Awards - the Black Country's answer to Thelma and Louise.
Off we go, Birmingham-bound (me holding on to my hair!)
Al, Jon & Adrian |
Stopping off for a cheeky beer at the Old Oak in Digbeth.
Me, Liz, Lynne and Liz |
Ellen & Brendan |
Then off to the gorgeous Fazeley Street Studios for the Awards.
Seventies style in a sea of 1950s wannabes and pin-ups. It didn't win us any new friends - even the official photographer ignored us.
Mrs Miniver & Fiona |
Luckily we had our fab friends and the wonderful Blighty Bazaar gang to play with.
The crazy Angela & Natalie from Pearls and Petticoats. |
Ellen |
With Kerry (House of Harrie Hattie) and Laura |
Barbara (Hats by Maison De Cantern) and Simon |
Brendan (The official Poet Laureate of Wednesbury) & Lynne |
Gorgeous Sarah. |
Unlike a typical red carpet starlet I did my own hair, nails and make up and wore a frock that was already in my wardrobe - a psychedelic Californian-made maxi courtesy of dearest Jean from Dross Into Gold. The tan was from the back garden.
Liz & me (Liz's maxi is from Kinky Melon and her bag is one of her Izzybird creations). |
Well done Blighty Bazaar - best Vintage shop in the Midlands & North! There's Amy getting her award.
I got to meet the lovely Helen from Mancunian Vintage.
So did I win? No! Despite your incredible support and leading the voting throughout the competition, the final decision was down to the judges and with criteria which included points for "representing vintage brands throughout their work" and "maintaining their public persona through social media" I didn't stand a cat in hell's chance.
Vintage brands? Does that mean Repro? Over my dead body! Public persona? I'm the same person 24 hours a day. I don't even know how to use my phone for Twittering.
I feel bad for letting you all down (and especially Curtise) but stuff it - I've still got a personality, just not one that conforms to the mainstream "vintage" one.
You'll find us here on Sunday - come and see us if you're around!
I've never really understood how these award things work. But it looks like a nice opportunity to have an evening of dressing up and enjoying yourself, which can't be a bad thing. x
ReplyDeleteFor me, you are a winner: You are authentic and you do rock your own style - fashion-wise and lifestyle-wise! And you did look fantastic. That Californian maxi dress is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't let anyone down you pillock! You looked fab as ever - think it's one for the fuck it bucket and move on :) When you down next, if you haven't been yet we can go to Kayal for a business lunch Thali (total bargain)
ReplyDeleteYou are a winner in my book, stuff the judges. You and Jon make a lovely couple.
ReplyDeleteOuter our rockstar Hun. You looked fabulous, but I would have to agree with your questioning of their criteria. Thank goodness you are you through and through and that what makes you a winner anyway. X
ReplyDeleteYou looked amazing. Your smile was the widest and too bad you didn't win - but that criteria is very strange indeed - sounds like a techy's competition!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting all the public votes you did! xx
You look the best dressed there! You do real vintage, unlike many. x
ReplyDeleteYou may not have brought home a gong but the public showered you with love and in my book that means more than being top of the "vintage" brand mouthpiece class. I'm absolutely incensed to read that you guys were ignored by the official photographer, what a bag of bastard bollox! Both you and Jon looked smashing and I absolutely love the frock, it's magnificent!...xXx
ReplyDeleteHello Vix,
ReplyDeleteWell, nobody can say that you did not give it your best shot. Awards, in our experience, tend to always be about something other than the awards but what exactly they are about often leaves one guessing. Next year.......after all, we shall all be even more vintage then!
Loved the outfit and both you and Jon looked perfectly gussied up for the occasion, as did all your friends. Surely, a fun night regardless.
Perhaps with Curtise as the manager and a more aggressive campaign next year.......beware you judges....you, darling V will overcome! You are a trooper....in the end, that is what counts!
your still the best in our book so keep doing what you do the best, looking good and selling good, took lots inspiration from your dress code, love it.
ReplyDeleteNow just a minute, young lady - you haven't let anyone down, least of all me! I had no idea what criteria the judges would be using, and I must say I think they are very skewed and inappropriate. I was naive enough to think the massive public support you have would count for something (otherwise why bother with a vote at all?) Isn't it interesting that someone who doesn't flog themselves on social media and sell their soul to promote repro brands STILL managed to lead the public vote by miles? That shows how much you are loved and appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI'm hopping mad, but I'm glad you and the gang got to have a night out, all frocked up and suited and booted and gorgeous! You look stunning in that wonderful dress from darling Jean, and you obviously stand out from the mainstream crowd. I do think you were robbed, darling, and I'm less than impressed by the lack of an inclusive, wide-ranging definition of vintage, but hey, you'll always be a winner with me!
That last photo of you is pure Vix! Looooove you - don't go changing! xxxxx
You both look FANTASTIC as always. So sad you didn't win, I had to visit their stupid website twice to work out how to vote for you. I'm really struggling with their definition of successful blogging as basically a commercial activity. Brands? You are the brand if anything, and that is the way it should be. Anyway, this is clearly a black mark on the Awards industry and not you, so I wouldn't feel bad about anything. They will be long gone when YOU are still being gorgeous.x
ReplyDeleteYou haven't let anyone down at all, you sausage!!! You're always a winner with us because you love what you wear and wear it for yourself and no one else - this always comes through in your blog. Its far better to be true to yourself than being a media/brand whore for the publicity and £££s; jumping onto the 'vintage'bandwagon just to be into 'the scene'. And by the way, you looked stunning in that special dress and did us proud by blazing the banner for Seventies Style.
ReplyDeleteP.S. the only gong you need is Marc Bolan's! xxx
You both look great! You haven't let anyone down at all, we all read your blog because you're so genuine and your voice is 100% you (no branding required!)
ReplyDelete:-(
ReplyDeletethis is familiar to me - we are tooooo special to fit into categories! we did´t win competitions but we live a life that suits us and makes us happy :-) hooray for individuals!
your frock is a dream, love the huge flowers and the wild colors! not to forget the whole styling and bling - gorgeous!
now i´m craving for a event where i can wear flowers in my hair and 12cm heels.....
xxxx
Exams and awards, fitting in, thats for people who feel insecure in themselves.
ReplyDeleteNot an issue you suffer from my dear.
Exams and awards, fitting in, thats for people who feel insecure in themselves.
ReplyDeleteNot an issue you suffer from my dear.
I must have got the wrong end of the stick, I thought when you wore Frank Usher and Jean Allan, Dollyrockers and Biba and wrote about it on your blog and facebook that you were promoting vintage brands and allowing people to get to know and love your personality through social media. My bad. I think Jane and Lance have hit the nail on the head. That picture of you on the couch sums you up. Joyful, beautiful, vintage loving and full of life. Don't go changing. xxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteCongrats to those who won but there should have been one more massive award left to give to you Vix, a gold crown for Genuine No Bullshit Vintage Queen
ReplyDeleteIts a fix , you are the most original vintage person out there , who lives & breathes vintage, anyone can do reproduction vintage just look at the shops with all the so called vintage in them , you've been robbed that's all i can say Disgusted i am.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't win - gah, I demand a re-count! You're always a winner to us and if being means being a 50s repro whore, then bollocks to it! We need our own alternative vintage awards. Glad you had a fab night and you and Jon are far and away the most individual people in the pictures x
ReplyDeleteYou're too fabulous to fit any category, and you're a star! Look at you and Jon, so happy and gorgeous together. Looks like a fun night out, including a fab convertible ride. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou guys looked terrific, as did your friends. Must have been a very fun time, beginning with the ride in the convertible, and of course the cheeky beer.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you didn't win but doing so sounds like it would have meant you having a different personality all together, and that simply would not do. I love you just the way you are, and twitter be damned. xo
Sorry to hear you didn't win Box but sod them and their agenda' s. You both looked gorgeous and don't pigeonhole yourselves to be like everyone else.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had a fantastic time anyway. Power to you.
P x
looks like a great night out, best wishes to the winner but I still give you my vote!
ReplyDeleteBollocks to them ,what do they know? I agree with everything Curtise said.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a lovely evening though and huzzah to the lovely Amy for wining with Blighty's Bazaar. Her's was one of the first blogs I started reading back in the day. x
Wtf!! The whole thing sounds like an absolute joke. It was probably sponsored by the very repro brands of which you speak. What a load of utter crap. I couldnt agree more with Curtise's coment. You are the moral winner and they know it as much as anyone xxx
ReplyDeleteYou young lady didn't let anyone down. You are a true vintage purist something these judges dont and will never understand. You stay true to yourself and how pure vintage should be. There are enough fake and repro items in the vintage scene and i refuse to have repro items sold at my fairs i stay true to my belief of vintage. Lou Lou's vintage fairs have been voted the best vintage fairs for the past few years to me that ia a joke there is nothing great about her fairs the quailty of the vintage clothes is appaling and there is no real atmosphere to them and yes she even has repro clothes there Ummmm No this isnt vintage. You be very proud of everything you have acheived so far on your own via your blog, your true friends and your true vintage customers who come to you because of your fabulous style, personailty and they know they will be getting pure vintage, style and quailty from a gorgeous lady and thats you Vix. xxx
ReplyDeleteGutted:( thinking of you in Manc on Saturday(my birthday:)! X
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Hope you had a great time!x
ReplyDeleteEveryone has said everything already! I do think it strange they ask people to vote and then totally ignore it. Grrr! You both looked amaaaazing, and I hope you don't let it worry you too much. We all love you and now you know how much! Awards are nice, but in the end they can't give or take away your gorgeous vintage personality! Have a lie in the sun for me you lucky ducks in Summer :-) XO
ReplyDeleteMiss Magpie said what I was going to say. So now I don't need to swear but blooming heck, you let no one down! As you can see we're all right behind you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nonsense. The judges were clearly deluded. At least you got a night out from it.
xxx
You REPRESENT every day for vintage wear! You are a winner in our books ...
ReplyDeleteThis is why I love you Vix, I can relate to you! We are both square pegs that don't fit in. But why would we do that! And your dress was fabulous, I'm a little tired of the 70s getting such a bad rap! I grew in the 60s and 70s and love both. So much color and pattern! Your a winner in my book! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely wonderful Vix and Jon too!! Looks like a great event but I'm not convinced by their criteria - you are always a winner to me so don't even think you let anyone down ((((hugs)))!
ReplyDeleteHave a fab weekend xxxx
To us all you are a winner and our shining star Vix!
ReplyDeleteYou deserved to win, the votes proved that. You are true vintage, living and breathing and with such style.
We love you and stuff the judges I say.
You brighten my day and have given me such great ideas.
I am having good success on eBay with my vintage stuff and its all down to you and Curtise.
Thanks Vix.
Love Pam in TX.xx
In the end it sounds like it came down to commercialism. The bad inescapable word. Even in a niche market like vintage where unique and creative should rule commercialism sneaks its greedy head in.
ReplyDeleteNevermind... you look like you had a blast and everyone looked smashing.
bisous
Suzanne

Robbed!!!! You look gorgeous as usual in your vivid 70's style. I love the flowing back of that one. You are adored more genuinely than any blogger I've seen and you don't need twitter or Instagram for that. Love you!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne is right. It's all about commercialism. But you did not let us down. We've all been having our own awards here in Vixland and we crown you OUR beautiful 70's Personality of FOREVER!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour our vintage winner in our minds. They want vintage that blends doesn't even look vintage? It should have been strictly based on voting. Looks like a fun night anyway. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I think some of the commenters above have hit the nail on the head, it sounds like a bit of a fix to me. Oh well we'll all move on, a little bit wiser for next time.
ReplyDeleteYou both looked amazing though, that dress is gorgeous!
Well you're still my number one vintage queen, so sod em
ReplyDeleteTwiggy x
AH you were robbed! Nevermind aye. You look fab in that dress and it looks like a great fun night XXX
ReplyDeleteYou most definable robbed Vix. As for letting anyone down, don't be daft! We all voted for you because you are a genuine beautiful person who lives vintage. No fake stuff or branding in sight. You will always be a winner in my eyes Hun. A stunning one at that.
ReplyDeleteX x
You absolutely did NOT let us down Vix! You are, and always will be, a winner in our eyes and hearts!
ReplyDeleteArsebiscuits to that criteria! Let us down? Behave!! You are our winner and a fecking shinning star in the vintage firmament.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely beautiful and I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves so much.
Pleased that Amy got it. Not pleased that you woz robbed. We'll have our own celebration when we get together agian.
Fecking loves ya.
xxxxxxx
OH Vix,sweetie, you didn't let anyone down! How could you do that being your lovely self? You look gorgeous, you are real and authentic and your love of life is something you radiate. I would suggest that we are all the winners for having a little bit of Vix in our lives.
ReplyDeletexoxoxo
You are a little shiny star in the vintage universe. I have dropped so many vintage blogs because they are (great) but samey. I love visiting you here, even if you don't twitter much haha.
ReplyDeleteV
xxx
It does say it all that it is all about repro-that's not vintage, that's more consumerism!!!! You are our vintage personality not anyone else who fakes it!! X
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame ,whats the matter with the judges !!! thats what i want to know , but you will always be a winner to me.
ReplyDeleteSecondly you and your other half look fabulous !!! , have a good weekend x
Nope, you definitely didn't let us down, no way! - you are the epitome of Vintage and you looked absolutely stunning (but then, you always do!)it looked like a fun night out with good company and you were most definitely robbed, you were the people's winner, you actually won the vote! x x x
ReplyDeleteU woz robbed!
ReplyDeleteBut you won the vote that counted...from those of us that love you and your life.
It isn't a vintage life...it's real, everyday livin' it life.
Stuff 'em!
Zxx
Your loved because your you! I prefer unique to run of the mill any day. B x
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to sound like a bitch, but I probably will when I say, you look more fabulous than anyone else there and you live, work and breathe vintage. How the fuck didn't you win? You were robbed I tell you. It was a fix! xx
ReplyDeleteLet's create our own 'real' vintage awards! :D
ReplyDeleteYou won over my heart! Long ago. :) And that is precious. Not competing. It's all a made up game. The votes you've got - that is winning. Everything else is only a game...
ReplyDeleteYou and Jon look smashing. But especially you, of course! :) Thank you for sharing this day with us. I understand that it's a bit disappointing after such a strong leading position. But it did not change the fact that I love you, and so are many of your readers and friends!
xxxxxxxxx
You will be the winner for us, all right, gorgeous! :*
ReplyDeleteLove those jewel hues lighting up your eyes! <3
P.S.: Emailing you again! Hope the spam doesn't eat it this time! :(
Now , now , Vix , you haven't let us down one moment !In our hearts , you are the winner , no matter what blind judges or photographers may think ...
ReplyDeleteYou definitely radiated at those Awards with your unique personality , look at your bright smile and magnificent dress , which made me gasp , just stay as you are ,that makes you all the more precious !
~ Enchanted kisses ~
~ La Dryada ~
I had to go and read it again - why in the name of all stuff that is old do they bother to have a vote if the 'judges' decide who wins according to what they like and think? It makes no sense at all to me.
ReplyDeleteThey should be honest and up front and tell people it matters not one flying whatsit where you cast you vote WE will decide who the winner is.
Tossers
I'm sure everyone on here will agree that you are our winner. Stuff the judges decision! M x
ReplyDeleteMy opinion? They were stupid to not let you win!
ReplyDeleteYou are the best!
Fuck them!
Lots of Hugs
Arianexo
Wow, I'm disheartened to hear that now even vintage must brand itself - disturbing, and to me, a bit oxymoronic, as you suggest. If that's the criteria, you're a winner by not conforming to that crap. So congrats!!! You and Jon and your friends look fab and I bet you had a great time anyway. And you went through the process and put yourself out there - kudos to you. Xoxo
ReplyDelete"representing vintage brands throughout their work"
ReplyDeleteThey've lost the plot, if they ever knew it in the first place... That very statement says to me that they haven't the first clue what it's all about. Hope you had a great evening anyway.
Vix you didn't let any of us done my sweet thing you did us so friggin proud! You and Jon are looking so hot together I can't believe you were snuffed by their photographer. Fuck em! You are a Bollywood goddess in that dress with your smile and sexy shoes. Jean must be so tickled seeing you rock the hell out of it!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the gang! Liz looks smoking hot in that dress and her trapeze necklace is so unique! I love your sweet ride to the event, I'm just sorry it turned out to be such a sham. I can just see that pin up look everywhere, more like a costume than a lifestyle. Whatever they have no idea.
Please know how happy you make us with your blog. I love seeing how you live and knowing you are really this person in real life.
Iloveyoumorethanvintage!
Xxxxxooooo
You are a winner in my eyes, and you two look pretty darn fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of you and Jon. You should have won! Social media? You're old school the way it should be not a sellout, jeesh! You are vintage 24/7 including your furnishings in your abode! I want to give the judges a piece of my mind! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou'll always be the winner in my book, ya lovely thing!
ReplyDeleteYou'll always be the winner in my book, ya lovely thing!
ReplyDeletePublic persona?! You are the real deal. You are not a manufactured icon who busies herself promoting a brand. You are Vix. Doh to the judges, such colossal idiots. And if I had to choose between '50s and '70s it would be '70s all the way, Vix style. You look smashing in that gown from Jean and Jon is stunning in his own duds. I demand a recount!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you are an inspiration to a world of people who know you are a schtar. I hope you got free drinks. Love that photo of you on the couch!
You didn't let us down. The judges did! It was clearly a mistake that they didn't pick you. But wait, why do people vote if the judges end up picking the winner? Is it not a popular vote contest??
ReplyDeleteWell I think it's an outrage ... but you're definitely the winner in my books :0)
ReplyDeletexx
You didn't let anyone down Vix, it was only an award at the end of the day, those things don't really matter do they. It's like the Brits, the music I like the best hardly ever wins a thing! It doesn't even usually get a mention but I still love it just as much, don't need some judge telling me what's the best. Looks like you all had a great night out, and looked stunning while you were at it, and it was a new experience, so that sounds good to me. Looking at the photos, you really did seem to stand out from the crowd too, you're Outsider art Vix, that's what it is! As lots of people have already said, you and your trusty campaign manager Curtise, are still winners in my eyes. xx
ReplyDeleteOh Vix you still came first!! You do not need any award to confirm where your true standing is for all of us and you let no one down. You looked your usual gorgeous bright and sparkling self. I adore the last photo. Winners are grinners and look at your grin!!
ReplyDeleteWell I thought you should have won! WTF is a vintage brand anyway? Isn't the whole ethos of vintage anti-brand anyway? Daft! And the public persona thing made me wince. I'd rather interact with a blogger who is themselves 24/7 than someone playing a character.
ReplyDeleteThat said it looks like it was an amazing evening to attend with so many glamorous guests. You looked utterly stunning in that gorgeous dress (and I love that it was from Jean at Dross into Gold!). For me your outfit won hands down as the look of the evening. xx
Gah. They're the losers for not picking you.
ReplyDeleteWx
That so many voted for you and voiced their complaints about the fix, shows the respect and affection you have earned, Vix. How can you think for a second that you let anyone down?
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, you make me smile. You win at life, a colourful life you share with those of us with more grey! Keep up the good work!
You're a winner in my eyes Vix! I can't believe the official photographer ignored you and Jon, how rude! you both look great x
ReplyDeleteAs i said before - you are always number one and fairest of them all !
ReplyDeletelove you for being you !
xxxx
The twinkle in Jon's eyes says it all: Enjoy the dance, lads and ladies, when the music stops I'm going home with The Winner.
ReplyDeleteNever mind the cameraman on a leash. With that dress, that hair and skin, and that genuine glow of glamour -- The Vintage Vixen has no need of artificial lighting to make a sofa shot work!
what Curtise said.
ReplyDeleteWe love you all the same and who would have thought you were too free spirited vintage as opposed to mainstream vintage? Well, it's lonely at the top as they say but I hope you had a good time in this new to you experience! Get some rest if you can and go on.
ReplyDeleteYou woz robbed Vix and for the 83rd time, you did NOT let anyone down.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe that wanker photographer snubbed you...how dare he! You are the real deal, why can't these so called 'vintage loving' people see that? Are they blinkered to any other era but the 50's? And why on earth was there a public vote if it was going to be ignored anyway? One thing we can be certain of, you are true to yourself and always look bloody amazing. xxxxxxx
vix, thank you so much for walking on this earth ... you already won my personal award! is worth nothing but filled with love ... ;)
ReplyDeleteactually this was a blog/media award not a real vintage award ... vintage labels? heheheeeee. talking about dior in the 50s, or pucci in the 60s to 70s?
i just own a dump phone, no smartness, no twitter, no facebook ... just me. give me a call, write me a mail or come over and have a beer with me ... this is how i work.
but it's good to see that you had lots of fun there ...
This looks like a splendid time, and I love Liz's (Kinki Melo) bag. Gorgeous photos Vix! x
ReplyDelete/Madison
The official photographer is a horse's ass for ignoring you! You'll always be OUR favourite Vintage personality. It looks like there were some pretty cool people there, as as much as I enjoy a good 50's theme, I think your dress was much cooler. Jon looks damn fine as well!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what a "vintage Brand" is - I would have thought that as you eat, breathe and sleep vintage, sell vintage, promote secondhand shopping, etc. etc. that would pretty much guarantee you the award, but obviously, I know nothing. Except that you're a star in our books. XO
Oh bugger!!!! You let no one down but perhaps the awards let the true vintage lovers down. Oh well, you looked fab and by the photos look like you had a wonderful time so you were a winner anyway! XXX
ReplyDeleteHi there!! You're definitely a winner in your blogger friends eyes, you and Jon looked amazing and it sounds like you had a lovely time in the company of your wonderful friends anyway! xxx
ReplyDeleteI ranted on Curtise's blog.
ReplyDeleteBollocks to them. Individuality didn't count for anything then?
Vix you look fantastic in that lovely frock from Jean. Looks like you all had a fab evening and if they want to make up silly rules which aren't necessarily apparent at the outset then bugger the lot of 'em. xxx
ReplyDeleteI know its difficult keeping one's hair in place whilst riding in an open sports car like that - it's good you held onto that pretty hair-flower. Your hair looked lovely and your floral dress is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteTo me the criteria of "maintaining their public persona through social media" begs the question of what period of vintage social media is from. I don't remember social media from the dial telephone days or from the days before dial telephones when the operator asked "Number please?". The third millennium "social media" perspective seems to me to be quite incongruous with the term "vintage". The use of the word word "representing" in the criteria "representing vintage brands throughout their work" also puzzles me. How does one represent out-of-business brands? Were there any seances held by the judges to ask the deceased designers and deceased company owners which "vintage personality" best represented the out-of-business "brands" they designed for? Were those who wrote the criteria still wet behind the ears, addled, drunk, or all of those? Those are mute questions I suppose. Perhaps a third millennium question would be more appropriate, namely: WTF? I would have thought that people being addicted to and living vintage is mainstream vintage. Although being into burlesque and a singing career like the announced winner @MissKikiDeVille apparently is may be tangential to vintage I don't think her personality is as directly related to mainstream vintage as yours is. Kudos to Ms. Kiki deVille for her singing and burlesque and congratulations to her for winning, but I know you are the real vintage personality, so kudos to you for being that even though you didn't receive the award for it. You and Jon looked fabulous at the awards. Your outfits complemented each other nicely. I love your colourful floral print frock and Jon's jacket and tie. It looks like it was a lovely event with fun and interesting folks in attendance - love the photos.
http://www.full-brief-panties.blogspot.com/
huh? Is this like counting chads? The obvious goes ignored, etc. Well that was certainly a sham dressed up as something else entirely. Glad you got to get glammed up Vix-style with your friends and have a good time. You certainly don't need No Sham Award, babe. Real Vintage in Real Time, or All Vintage All the Time. That's your motto, if you've gotta have one. True to the core.
ReplyDeleteSo you are a non-conforming non-conformist. Good for you. And your jewelry was fabulous too!
ReplyDeleteyou win totally for us. Anupriya and I were talking the other day only about how much we love your style and make-up and accessories and love for bollywood! hopefully you two meet when she goes to london!
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame for you but it looks like you had fun nevertheless. How strange about the public vote not counting, I wonder why they even had one if it wasn't taken into consideration x
ReplyDeleteWhen Krista told me I was so torked and still am! I agree with Curtis!! And, in the words of the great Yves Saint Laurent "All art is now commerce", poor guy even he has been reduce done to SL-yuck! Sad that they wanted someone who is promoting new shite from China. I know that the young girls like it because it'd often cheap for them to afford. But that's not VINTAGE, and usually far from quality!
ReplyDeleteIf you want something "repro", IMHO it must be made from vintage material using vintage patterns, and you do that often, as did our mothers. So technically, I think you could qualify there too.;)
At least it looks like you had a fun time and got to have a nice night out with friends so that's the plus. It was fun to see everyone looking so swell dressed up in their party clothes and Jon certain looked dapper!:)
Looks like you and your lovely friends had a right old knees up, you all looked fabulous! Sorry you didn't win. There'll be other awards I'm sure x
ReplyDeleteVix, you won as far as I'm concerned! You looked absolutely stunning, and how any photographer passed you and Jon by without a photo is unthinkable.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way that you could ever let us down. You personify everything that I admire. Love to you!
So I just got a text from Judith the Style Crone telling me that you wore THAT DRESS to the awards night!! I missed the whole thing, but let me say a) I voted for you dammit and b) you shoulda won because you have integrity, which should be the heart of the vintage award.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely gorgeous. I posted a comment on Veshoevious's blog about you and the whole thing. I hope you had a good time regardless. You and Jon make a handsome couple and I showed Joey your pic in the dress. He was blown away.
For me, you are a winner, forever. XXXOOO
Can't believe that you didn't win but glad you had a fab time anyway. They obviously don't know fab vintage style when they see it!
ReplyDeleteThe only conclusion I can reach is that the 'official' photographer must have been temporarily, totally blinded by the massive fabulousness of you and Jon. Nothing else would explain some one wielding a camera NOT falling over their own feet to get you two well and truly snapped and in the bag. Perhaps the same phenomenon afflicted the judges??
ReplyDeletestuff'em Vix! we don't need no corrupt judges to determine that your a the brightest vintage star in the chazza! I really tire of all the favouritism to 50s gals. I love'em but fark there is about 2000 other decades your could choose from why just go for what's popular with the public - oh wait weren't you the popular one? derr! im sure everyone looked fabulous but non as much as you. that dress is amazeballs! i love the scarf thingy at the back and all your colour and confidence! i'm sure the girls in the repro girdles were eyeing of your comfy gown with green eyes! it looks far more easy to wear then all the fluff of a 50s (repro) dress
ReplyDeleteYou remain the undisputed Vintage Queen... sod any poxy awards :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a blast at Glasto - sure you will be glamorous as ever ... no matter how muddy it gets!
Well, I feel like I've just had a night out on the town with you and I'm exhausted! The judging criteria was shite, but then we all know that don't we? It was a great night out, as a finalist you would have created quite a stir with your FABULOUS glam 70s look and I think many will be rethinking what "vintage" means to them. Repro be damned! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat set of photos, I almost feel as if I were there :-)
ReplyDeleteYour dress is fab, I'm pretty sure I had one like in in the 70s, I wish I still had it now!

ReplyDeleteWell I think they're off their rockers -- you always represent vintage brands by showing labels and show your "public persona" through FB & your blog! Sorry to hear they couldn't see that, you deserved the award! Regardless, you & Jon looked fantastic & I know wherever you two go there is fun to be had, so I'm sure it still was a fun night! XXX
