Yay! Liz had the day off work today so we indulged in our favourite pastime, ransacking the chazzas of the West Midlands for cheap, impractical and frivolous things.
Armed with big bags (Liz made this beauty),
Sensible shoes (mine!),
...and a £4.30 daysaver.
We caught the bus to Royal Sutton Coldfield to explore.
Here's just a few of the town centre charity shops.
We made frequent stops for refreshments (and to inspect our purchases). I bought this 1960s groovy perspex candle holder (99p) and the flower power PVC bangle (50p)
Liz snaffled this 1960s Kangol angora beret for £2.50
No girls' day out would be complete without the obligatory Wetherspoons lunch - cheese & tomato panini with chips and a generous measure of dry white wine (£5.69 a head - bargain!)
It seemed a shame not to make full use of the day saver ticket so, once we'd exhausted Sutton, we jumped on the bus to nearby Boldmere and explored the chazzas there.
Liz got some hand knitted gloves, an embellished warehouse dress, a Laura Lees For TopShop silk blouse, a paisley print shift dress and a satin work shirt.
I bought this odd wood-mounted picture 'cos I can't resist a pretty lady (especially when she's a cheap one).
These 1970s saucers (at 25p each) will be great on the kitchen windowsill as plant pot stands.
A ceramic poodle thermometer for 75p? How could I resist?
Crimplene maxi (my mate Curtise), 1960s vinyl bag & hat (charity shops), fake fur coat (£7, clearance sale 2012) |
Talk about a good day, on the way home the owner of my favourite Indian trimmings market stall let me have a big bag of pom pom braiding for cost price and Jon had not only unloaded the van & put away all the stock from yesterday but also had jacket potatoes ready & waiting.
See you soon!

Lurve the fur lined pretty, pretty booties! Love a charity shop day, especially with my friend Lin who managed to get a pair of red suede wedge heeled CC41 shoes with the gold lion head in near perfect condition - for £1!
ReplyDeleteAnother successful day out amongst your "chazzas". You have plenty on offer.

ReplyDeleteOoh, haven't been over to Sutton for ages, must put that on the list. Great haul as usual, and love the outfits. Love those daysaver tickets!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing making me more jealous than that pink hat is you hanging with one of the Liz's! The picture of you two beauties is a riot with the grouchy old lady in back peeping over! What's all the fuss! This outfit makes me sing it's just that happy!
ReplyDeleteYou both are looking bright and cheery and tell Liz Vivian Westwood needs to move her tartan stuff on over, this bag is fresh! I think you showed great restraint but what you did get is oh so Vix! I can't wait to see your pretty face this week! OH HOW I MISS YOU!!!!
All my love and gimmie those chips now!
XXOOO
Loving the pic of you and Liz and the bewildered woman .lol
ReplyDeleteYou and Liz are freaking fab. I cannot *wait* to get over the water to go shopping with you! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, you are a shining star of individuality. xox
ReplyDeleteThose boots=fab!!!!!! Day of charity shopping is a fine way to socialise! Liz's beret is a corker!!! X
ReplyDeleteI keep sniggering at the nosey parker who bombed your selfie!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY for a grand day out, feck me, there's a LOT of chazzas in Royal Sutton Coldfield (what a bizzarre name for a town!). I feel exhausted just thinking about that many chazzas in one day! You did well, that poodle thermometer being the score of the day in my opinion!!!!
Love Helga xxxXXXxxx
Oh oh what a fantastic day! I love seeing the good old op-shops in the UK. Yay.
ReplyDeleteYour shoes are amazing...love them.
Love v
Those shoes may be flatties but I'd hardly call them sensible, that just wouldn't be you. What a great day out and no rain either...halle bloodylujah. Those chips look lush and so do you! Love that hat. xxxxx
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how many charity shops you Brits do have - we only have one in our city!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day you had, pretty ladies!! I loved your sensible booties - so fun! And your friend made such a cool bag too! You both look absolutely fantastic, and your ability to find cute things for such little prices is incredible to me. I am learning! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Love your elf boots! I had a yellow, red and blue pair of clogs as a kid, how i loved them! That has got to be the perfect day - top friends, chazza treasures and finally a lunch of wine and chips. Your photo bomber must have super powers, nobody can normally resist the fun with you around. Bet she's got a vest on under there with SuperGrump written on it. Love your pink hat and liz's oriental dress. Yep, you definitely took glamour on tour around the W Mids today! Xxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun filled day!
ReplyDeleteI love Liz's dress and your colourful maxi and pimping hat : )
bisous
Suzanne
Look at all those different shops ... you are spoilt for choice.
ReplyDeleteThose shoes are fantastic ... they remind me of bowling shoes ... but much, much better.
xx
This is my ideal way to spend a day. Perusing charity shops at your leisure with a willing partner in crime culminating in a large inexpensive meal from Wetherspoons. Although being a carnivore I'd have to go for one of their gorgeous hotdogs! Love your sensible shoes and I'd have definitely bought those saucers at 25p each xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous day out! I chuckled at your photo bomber on the train :)
ReplyDeleteI love all your bargains and really fancy a panini and chips now!
Some great finds there xx
Total bliss!! I remember Wetherspoons fondly! And chazza shopping too for that matter! x

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour! There's that red Kangol hat - fab! Xox
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing all your bargains. What a great day out.
ReplyDelete8! 8 charity shops? No fair.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a right good day out! Lovely to see gorgeous Liz, and the selfie on the bus is brilliant, that lady in the background was obviously jealous that she wasn't getting to join in with the chazzin' and Wetherspoonin' fun!
ReplyDeleteYou both found some treasures, that's good - Liz was obviously drawn to gorgeous prints and fabrics, while you were a sucker for some bonkers bric-a-brac. That poodle was a Must Be Bought, the candle holder is very groovy, and the wood-framed lady is a beauty.
Chips and wine (what, no Porn Stars?!) are the perfect lunch, and you both look fabulous. Feeling the need for a blogger day out now...
Love ya! xxxxx
What a great day out. It's been a while since I've hoped on the bus and done the rounds of all the charity shops up north through the different towns and had just a good day out. I need to do that again. you ladies found some great things. Love those saucers and that poodle, and your hat of course!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! You and Liz took the charity shops by storm! Loving the photo of the two of you, your lovely purchases and your great headwear.

ReplyDeleteSerious envy here as no charity shops. Love Liz's bag. Do you know where she got the pattern or is it her own creation?
ReplyDeleteLooks like an epic trip. Love the poodle thermometer so much ;D And your awesome bin before/after.

ReplyDeleteCan't decide which tickles me more: those 'sensible' shoes, or the dour female photo-bomber.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun it would be to trail behind you on a promenade and hear the comments of those who cannot see the sense behind your style!
Seems like you two had a fabulous day and enjoyed your hunting and the company of each others. Love your shoes! You look gorgeous in this fur coat and the hat, great colours combination.
ReplyDeleteYou had a perfect shopping day! I really like the poodle thermometer and that really cool candle holder. Your thrift stores are awesome! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you grabbed some fabulous things and had a great time too. I must admit I do like looking around Sutton Coldfields Charity shops.

Now that's my idea of a great day!! Liz's plaid bag and your tri-colour clogs are the coolest things I've seen in ages. I had to chuckle at the drab looking woman who photo-bombed your selfie - she was probably wishing she was part of your gang.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing better than a whole day spent charity shopping. It looks like you and Liz scored lots of bargains. I love your sensible shoes.
ReplyDeleteOh Vix I love your shoes! Looks like you had a marvellous time!

ReplyDeleteLiz's bag is crazy awesome and your shoes are AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteCharity shop crawl + cheap and plentiful carbs = happiness. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day!
Can you do a "ask Vix questions" post? I want to know how you take care of your beautiful hair, where you met Jon (you are SO well suited!), how Jon learned to sew and alter clothes...
You're just so interesting and dynamic.
A dream day come true. Fabulous treasures, a fabulous friend, food and wine, AND it was inexpensive? Joy. Love the saucers and the thermometer, along with everything else. So happy to see you having fun. XXXOOO
ReplyDeleteuh, a poodle thermometer? this is almost better as a poodle on wheels. great find!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this great charity shop hat with Hat Attack! I'm always excited to see your gorgeous face pop up on SC the first of the month.
ReplyDeleteAfter an enormous day like that, I'd be gagging for a hot, crispy jacket potato too! What a wonderful time you had together, Liz looks amazing in her new beret and I'm certain the pair of you had the locals dropping their shopping and walking into posts. xoxoxoox
ReplyDeleteNo home is complete without a poodle thermometer. Thank goodness you found one!! What a day. You and Liz look fantastical together. I'd love to hear the whispering gawpers around you, stunned by your awesomeness. And to have lovely potatoes upon your triumphal return home - too perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh what a trip - the selfie photo is a cracker, the look on the face of the woman in the background. I adore the poodle thermometer, it could be pals with the green poodle barometer I found in a free box. You both clearly had a fabulous time.
