Bonfire!

Last night Adrian and Liz hosted their annual bonfire party.

Max on the rampage
Unlike last year, I even remembered to take some photos...

...but none of the actual fire so one of my favourite drum 'n' bass tracks will have to do!

The fireworks were spectacular, loud and violent, just how we like them.

I made a Guy Fawkes from offcuts of VW carpeting, some jumble sale tights, buttons & braiding salvaged from an old dress, a crocheted dressing table thingy and an empty loo roll, but Liz couldn't bear to burn him as she reckoned he was a mini Adrian, so he kept a watch over proceedings instead.

We brought the nibbles - batata wada, veg samosas, paneer rolls, veg pakora and chutney from Royal Foods, Walsall's finest Gujarati sweet centre.

Adrian's friend, Patrice Black, provided the buffet. He runs a Caribbean takeaway, The Talk Of The Town, in Walsall town centre.

Adrian made me (the annoying token vegetarian) a delicious saag chana aloo of my own.

There were lots more guests but they were a bit camera shy.

I'm wearing a 1960s playsuit courtesy of Krista, a much missed member of our gang!

Naturally us lot were the last to leave. As soon as we got home we stripped off and chucked everything in the washing machine, bonfires are fab but gawd, they don't half make your clothes honk.

Despite a skinful we were up bright and early and ready to greet our visitors, the gorgeous Dee and her lovely husband John, who'd won a 1950s larder unit on EBay which just happened to be down the road from us.

We admired their purchase, cooed over their greyhounds and chatted in the bombsite that is our kitchen before waving them off on their journey back down South.

What a fun weekend so far - hope yours is/was equally fabulous!

I do like a bonfire, but yes, the smell of woodsmoke is all pervasive. The fireworks and food look amazing, glad you all had a brilliant time. Your wee Guy is adorable, I'm not surprised Liz saved him from the flames!

Ohhhh there's Dee! How fab to catch up with her and John again. What brilliant photos of the two of you, both waring the most delightful frocks and looking gorgeous.

X Factor results date later, love - looking forward to it! xxxxx

  9. What an explosion of colour...not the fireworks but you and the girls. Loving that tiny playsuit.
Blimey all that gorgeous grub is making me feel hungry, I'm curious to know what those doughnutty things are? Hooray for Vix for making a Guy, it's such a shame no one does it any more and Halloween has taken over with all that American style commercialism. Bonfire night is much more homespun...and cheap! xxxxxxx

YAY for a grand night of smelly pops and bangs! We went to Si and Nix for Nix' b'day and some fireworks on Friday night; the quality of fireworks we get here isn;t brilliant, but we enjoyed it!
You gorgeous girls! You all looked dreamy, even rugged up!
AND you met up with Dee! SQUEE! She's a love. A great weekend!

  16. What fun a bonfire night. It would wonderful to have one here, but everything is so dry that there are extreme fire warnings in place.

  19. What fun! How strange it must be for there to be 1000s of random bonfires all over the country. could you imagine one here? at least one would get out of control and take the national headlines. Gawd.
Yum yum! what a spread of food! I love Indian food and we also had a Caribbean inspired dinner last night thanks to Mr Jamie Oliver. There's an Indian sweet shop down the road from me, but i always find them too sweet. What a fun evening!

I love that you're a vegetarian (as am I). We're not annoying - we're the people with a conscience. Adrian and Liz's Bonfire party looks like it was a blast!

  28. Now that sounds like a very good time for sure. Such a good looking group of happy people. And the food looks delicious too! We don't celebrate Guy Fawkes here, but we happened to be in Scotland once during it. It was so much fun. I love the figure you made and wouldn't have wanted to burn him either. xo

  29. If someone has a bonfire over here, everyone shows up in jeans and sweatpants, so I love that you dames are rocking flowered dresses and coloured tights! Yummy food, good company, loud fireworks - sounds like a good night to me!

  32. Not only do you know how to have a good time, you know how to look fabulous while you are doing it! And I hate it when I wake up the next morning after a rip-roaring fire smelling like smoke. I keep telling my husband we need a hot-tub on the other side of the yard from the fire pit so I can dunk myself before bed.

    ReplyDelete
  33. MMMM... I love the smell of bonfires. You and Dee look like the muses in the film "Sirens"

  36. Ooh I'm jealous Vix! Halloween's a bigger deal up here than bonfire night, and I really miss a good bonfire, though we have a local firework display that is always good. Your little guy was so cute I'm not surprised he was saved from the flames, and all that food looks so good.
Lovely to see Dee too, and you both look gorgeous! xx

  55. Hurrah for Guy Fawkes! I haven't made a Guy since I was a wee kid - it used to be one of my favourite things about Guy Fawkes. Also I love that you get to go to a for real bonfire party. One of my friends at Uni still lived at her parents and they had a lifestyle block so we'd all head out there for fireworks fun times on Guy Fawkes - but its been years since I've know anyone who owned enough land to have a bonfire. Also what a rocking playsuit!!
