...but none of the actual fire so one of my favourite drum 'n' bass tracks will have to do!
The fireworks were spectacular, loud and violent, just how we like them.
I made a Guy Fawkes from offcuts of VW carpeting, some jumble sale tights, buttons & braiding salvaged from an old dress, a crocheted dressing table thingy and an empty loo roll, but Liz couldn't bear to burn him as she reckoned he was a mini Adrian, so he kept a watch over proceedings instead.
We brought the nibbles - batata wada, veg samosas, paneer rolls, veg pakora and chutney from Royal Foods, Walsall's finest Gujarati sweet centre.
Adrian's friend, Patrice Black, provided the buffet. He runs a Caribbean takeaway, The Talk Of The Town, in Walsall town centre.
Adrian made me (the annoying token vegetarian) a delicious saag chana aloo of my own.
There were lots more guests but they were a bit camera shy.
I'm wearing a 1960s playsuit courtesy of Krista, a much missed member of our gang! |
Naturally us lot were the last to leave. As soon as we got home we stripped off and chucked everything in the washing machine, bonfires are fab but gawd, they don't half make your clothes honk.
Despite a skinful we were up bright and early and ready to greet our visitors, the gorgeous Dee and her lovely husband John, who'd won a 1950s larder unit on EBay which just happened to be down the road from us.
We admired their purchase, cooed over their greyhounds and chatted in the bombsite that is our kitchen before waving them off on their journey back down South.
What a fun weekend so far - hope yours is/was equally fabulous!
thats where all the noise was coming from lol , looks like you had a great time xxxx
ReplyDeleteYou lot look fab - particularly loving the chaps' headgear - very stylish!
ReplyDeleteThe fireworks looked fab - v professional :) xxx
Now that's how Bonfire Night should be done. Never mind a couple of sparklers and a baked spud! All you ladies look terrific.
ReplyDeleteFantastic to see you and Dee together..makes my heart leap so it does. I feel a get together in the New Year is in order.
Loves ya.
xxxxxx
The food looks delicious, and all of you look stunning, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I want all the nibbles! Bonfires are so fun, and you look fabulous (of course, always).
ReplyDeleteI do love to see you and the Luscious Lizes all frocked up. You are all rocking your boots, and the bright colours too! That's one cheeky little playsuit, Vix!
ReplyDeleteI do like a bonfire, but yes, the smell of woodsmoke is all pervasive. The fireworks and food look amazing, glad you all had a brilliant time. Your wee Guy is adorable, I'm not surprised Liz saved him from the flames!
Ohhhh there's Dee! How fab to catch up with her and John again. What brilliant photos of the two of you, both waring the most delightful frocks and looking gorgeous.
X Factor results date later, love - looking forward to it! xxxxx
It all looks very yummy, stylish and fun. How lovely to see Dee. Nice pic of you both.
ReplyDeleteI'm lusting after your friends leather Chesterfield! xxx
What a great "Guy". Not surprised he was saved from the fire. Looks like you all had a blast. How lovely to meet up with Dee too. The two of you look fantastic. Dee, if you're reading, I particularly love your boots! xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat an explosion of colour...not the fireworks but you and the girls. Loving that tiny playsuit.
ReplyDeleteBlimey all that gorgeous grub is making me feel hungry, I'm curious to know what those doughnutty things are? Hooray for Vix for making a Guy, it's such a shame no one does it any more and Halloween has taken over with all that American style commercialism. Bonfire night is much more homespun...and cheap! xxxxxxx
Going to a bonfire next weekend for Full Moon Dog Party! Hope I remember to take photos!
ReplyDeleteSeems like a fun evening. You all look lovely!
ReplyDeleteAh Vix I'm always so jealous of your get togethers, you have the best bunch of friends! Love those boots! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a blast.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is so groovy baby! : )
PS I LOVE/want your tufted leather sofa!

Suzanne
Sounds like so much fun and everyone looks fab - especially loving all your boots!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a hell of a good feast!! I'd love to have gobbled my way through that lot...YUM! I haven't made samosas in years...
ReplyDeleteYAY for a grand night of smelly pops and bangs! We went to Si and Nix for Nix' b'day and some fireworks on Friday night; the quality of fireworks we get here isn;t brilliant, but we enjoyed it!
You gorgeous girls! You all looked dreamy, even rugged up!
AND you met up with Dee! SQUEE! She's a love. A great weekend!
Love Helga xxxXXXxxx
What fun a bonfire night. It would wonderful to have one here, but everything is so dry that there are extreme fire warnings in place.
ReplyDeleteLooking fabulous as always Vix in your playsuit for a fun night.
Oh little 'Guy' is too cute to go up in flames....I think he was perfect to just keep an eye on things.
ReplyDeleteAll the party goers were looking very dashing and Vix that play suit is fabulous.
Yip the bonfire smell is full-on.....into the wash with everything.
Well it's Monday and our weekend is about to start.....just feels a little strange.....
Love V
PS love the pics with Dee......she is one lovely lady.
Dang, you folks sure know how to have fun! :)
ReplyDeleteYour Guy Fawkes is a really a great little piece of folk art, you clever gal you!
Frocks are fabulous as always and the food looks awesome. Indian is always veggie at our house. If you've never had curried cabbage, I'll send you my recipe. ;)
xxx
What fun! How strange it must be for there to be 1000s of random bonfires all over the country. could you imagine one here? at least one would get out of control and take the national headlines. Gawd.
ReplyDeleteYum yum! what a spread of food! I love Indian food and we also had a Caribbean inspired dinner last night thanks to Mr Jamie Oliver. There's an Indian sweet shop down the road from me, but i always find them too sweet. What a fun evening!
Looks like a great party. Love the whole outfit too.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful weekend you had with your beautiful friends. I adore your colorful life!

I love that you're a vegetarian (as am I). We're not annoying - we're the people with a conscience. Adrian and Liz's Bonfire party looks like it was a blast!

ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the three glam dolls on the couch !
Now that sounds like a very good time for sure. Such a good looking group of happy people. And the food looks delicious too! We don't celebrate Guy Fawkes here, but we happened to be in Scotland once during it. It was so much fun. I love the figure you made and wouldn't have wanted to burn him either. xo
ReplyDeleteIf someone has a bonfire over here, everyone shows up in jeans and sweatpants, so I love that you dames are rocking flowered dresses and coloured tights! Yummy food, good company, loud fireworks - sounds like a good night to me!
ReplyDeletenow that's an evening well spent! love the Guy Fawkes and of course your cheeky playsuit. You really do a weekend well, dear Vix. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat must have been so much fun, especially seeing the fireworks. All the food looks so delicious, and that maxi dress you wore the next day looks almost too good to be true!
ReplyDeleteNot only do you know how to have a good time, you know how to look fabulous while you are doing it! And I hate it when I wake up the next morning after a rip-roaring fire smelling like smoke. I keep telling my husband we need a hot-tub on the other side of the yard from the fire pit so I can dunk myself before bed.
ReplyDeleteMMMM... I love the smell of bonfires. You and Dee look like the muses in the film "Sirens"
ReplyDeleteYour parties always look like they are not to be missed if at all humanly possible. Food, fireworks, fabulous outfits. And wearing a play suit with boots. Divine!
ReplyDeleteI could seriously dig in that feast right now, saag, Mmmm, so delicious! You look great and looks like such a brilliant time. xx/Madison
ReplyDeleteOoh I'm jealous Vix! Halloween's a bigger deal up here than bonfire night, and I really miss a good bonfire, though we have a local firework display that is always good. Your little guy was so cute I'm not surprised he was saved from the flames, and all that food looks so good.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see Dee too, and you both look gorgeous! xx
Looks like you had a great time: spectacular fireworks, delicious food, lovely people. Love the photo of you with two other girls, all in bright floral outfits, looking gorgeous.

ReplyDeleteYou all look so cosy in your coats wrapped up for the fireworks and bonfire. But of course the highlight happens when you and the Lizzes take off your coats and reveal your outfits in all their glory. Such a lovely colourful photo. That playsuit is cute!

Hurrah for Guy Fawkes! I haven't made a Guy since I was a wee kid - it used to be one of my favourite things about Guy Fawkes. Also I love that you get to go to a for real bonfire party. One of my friends at Uni still lived at her parents and they had a lifestyle block so we'd all head out there for fireworks fun times on Guy Fawkes - but its been years since I've know anyone who owned enough land to have a bonfire. Also what a rocking playsuit!!
ReplyDeletehow bright and beautiful you all look....a spectacular herbaceous border!!x
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a fantastic time. Agree with Young at Heart you all look so bright and beautiful - I'm working on the colour thing!
ReplyDeleteNothing like a good bonfire night (and all the food that goes with it)!
