In Tents Heat!

Bless her, she's in her element, isn't she? Said the 50p lady fanning herself under her massive straw hat at the boot sale this morning and I am. The mercury's hitting 33, it's been wall to wall sunshine for almost a fortnight and I couldn't be happier.

I'm wearing clothes that normally only see the light of day in India, barefoot more often than not and best of all, we're sleeping outside.

Jon couldn't resist snapping up this 1970s two berth tent from Saturday morning's jumble sale and it seemed only right to play in it straight away.

A home away from home (and also furnished entirely with second-hand stuff) and the coolest place to sleep.

Being shoeless means I can wear the Lamani gypsy anklets I usually save for India (I've hidden my nail-less toe for the sake of decency).

I've been busier than a busy thing today, scurrying around getting my stock ready for Sunday's fair - floaty maxis, crisp cotton dresses, gents' trousers in pastel shades, linen blazers and straw hats featuring heavily.

1970s patchwork maxi (eBay, £5.19), Shirred 1970s sun top by Caribbean Fun (20p, jumble sale), Lamani coin belt (Mysore market, India)
We've got some of the vintage family popping round in a bit for a tour of the house and a chilled out evening in the garden so due to doing some emergency housework I've missed a few hours valuable sunbathing time, hopefully I can catch up tomorrow.

See you soon.

PS Thanks for the concern! The X-ray shows there's another couple of years left in my hip, the pain is from inflammation caused by doing too much. I'm on the waiting list for some steroid injections which should help me dodge the knife for a couple more years...definitely cause to celebrate!

  1. A tent! What fun--and love the way you've done up the interior harem style! Good news on the hip.

  2. first! I always wanted to go camping in the yard, but the humidity prevents it. It's about the same temp here, but the humidity is over 75%, that's want I can't stand. I grew up in the Sacramento valley in California were the summer temps are always in the 90's. No humidity! You look awesome in your patchwork.

  6. Excellent news on the hip Vix :)
When I was a kid I used to sleep on our balcony in the summertime and recently I have seriously considered doing that again. The flat is like a bloody sauna at moment and to make matters worse we have a loft bed. I may well follow your lead and sleep outside tonight.
That is such a joyful outfit, like a magnificent firework of colour and print. You look so gorgeously laid-back and perfectly Hippie Chic...xXx

  9. Love the tent, we had an orange one in the 70's that we took to the south of France every year...the best holidays I ever had. I'm loving the sunshine too and did my ironing in the garden today. Long may it continue.

You are Queen of lifestyle! I see one of the puss-cats has got involved in the action. Do they come and snuggle in with you at night? I love love love sleeping outside. You look sun-kissed and gorgeous in your wonderful patchwork outfit. Did you have a good time this afternoon?

Glad to hear that there is some imminent relief coming your way. Steroid injections really helped when I had a frozen shoulder a couple of years ago. xxxxxxxx

  33. Love the idea of sleeping the garden (bet it's a lot cooler out there than it is in my bedroom) and your tent looks super comfy - my idea of camping. Brilliant news on the hip - maybe I should look into steroid injections for my right hip problem too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I do hope they also give you some funky drungs along with the steroids!!! Yay for a bit of a reprieve, but it will be good to get it done and dusted!
Now, you are so FOXALICIOUS in that colourful, beautiful outfit!! Love the ankle bangles!! The tent is splendid, and you've decked it out in the most DEIVOON style! I'd love to flop about in there, shooting the breeze and drinking cocktails into the night.......ah, Summer, how I miss thee!

  36. Loving the tent Vix, what a find!!! think we need a vintage family sleepover xx

    ReplyDelete
  37. What a find that tent was. But even better is the way you've dresed it in Eastern/Arabian style with hangings and soft quilts. I'm still loving that patchwork skirt anf course you should go beautifully barefoot in the grass in this heat.

Just concerned that lying on the hard ground outside may exacerbate the pain in your hip. Take ALL the painkillers and enjoy your fair. I wish I could visit it and see your stand in all its retro glory.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The tent is Arabian Nights meets an Indian caravan!
I'm glad that you got a few more years before needing some surgery and I hope that you continue to enjoy your sun-fest!

  41. Nice to see the patchwork skirt again. Be careful going barefoot in the grass though, our lawn is all clover and I stepped on a bee! Ouch! Great news about your hip! xxxx

  42. I have a serious case of tent envy going on right now. That is a beauty, and the throws and cushions look so bloody comfy. I really desire a camping holiday at the moment but with everything else going on it just isn't going to happen :-(
