Never Admit To Beige

Remind me again of what I said on Wednesday, was it something about never ever wearing a certain colour? Take no notice of anything I say, rules were made to be broken.

I spotted this groovy 1960s hat in a charity shop window on the way to visit Dad in his nursing home this week and despite the colour, loved it. I hoped wearing it would detract from my puffy eyes and deathly pallor when I popped into town this morning for more medication. I was right, I got stopped and admired so many times I'm almost considering wearing more neutrals (ignore me, I'm sick).

Edward Mann hat (£5, Scope), 1970s Lurex maxi dress by Compass (Courtesy of Nelly), embroidered denim gilet (£1.95, Banardos), Bling-tastic pendant (handmade by Krista)

Gilbert's stuffed to his pop-top with stock for tomorrow's vintage fair. There's everything any retro- loving girl and guy could ever want, from 1930s tea dresses to 1980s sharp suits, groovy 1960s boutique labels like Biba, Austin Reed, Dollyrockers and Jean Varon to cheap and cheerful Eighties' St Michael & Dotty P's. There's wicker picnic sets, kitsch first aid kits, Vernon Ward prints, party ware and bar accessories, retro hair dryers, china swans & cake stands, vintage umbrellas and kipper ties and prices start at £1.50!

If you're going to be anywhere near Perton Civic Centre, Wolverhampton (WV6 7PD) between 10am and 3pm come and say hello!

I'm off to find something spectacular to wear.

Have a fantastic weekend.

See you soon!

  2. Too bad I live an ocean away! I feel the same way about gray, yet I have a long sleeve top and wooly sweater that are gray.....wear them both in the winter. Enjoy the sale and get better! Hugs to your Dad.

  5. You're too funny Vix! That hat is gorgeous - nothing like a perfectly shaped hat - they don't make them like they used to. Adore that dress.
Wish I could come see you - one day...
I'm sure it will go really well for you! x

  7. Haha, beige is allowed if it's a hat! Also your outfit is bright enough to make up for it :) I love the dress! xo.

  8. Well, I'm going to have to drop you now, I'm afraid - beige indeed...
Ha, as if ANYTHING you wear could ever be boring, Vix! The hat works with your style because it's such a fantastic shape and has that groovy bow, and it's the perfect topping to your delicious outfit.
How I love that lurex maxi (how is Nelly? Since I don't do Facebook and she stopped blogging, I don't know what she's up to these days...) and the waistcoat is a great addition.
Good luck for tomorrow (not that you need it), hope the punters flock to your stall and spend well!
    LOVE!!! xxxxx

  11. Hope you have a successful sale Vix! Keep warm and drink plenty of fluids.
Love that hat on you. One beige item is okay, but I could never imagine you in all beige head to toe. Even as a corporate caterer. ;)
I'd love to see that hat on you while wearing your green tights, mini skirt, boots, and long vest. I've seen that outfit on you in here somewhere way back. Loved it!

  12. Wow!! I love it. I love beige when it's a camel coat, Burberry style mac or 60s mod pencil skirt. Obviously the rest of the outfit is stunning, you look radiant, no one would ever know you had the lurgy. Your stall sounds soooooo tempting!!

  13. I don't think it counts as beige if you team it with that amazing print dress!

  14. Dude I love this hat on you. We will both forgive it's beigeness because let's face it, the hat rocks! I also love the frock you are wearing pink and shimmery bits, WOWZER! The floral detailing on the vest is extra cute too. I so wish I could come shop your rack! I feel so left out! Good luck, sell lots!

  16. What a fabulous hat! You could call it camel, or be like the fashionistas and say 'nude'. But why bother, as you say rules are made to be broken.
Hope you make loads of money for your India trip tomorrow. I'm in Brum tomorrow, but I'm coming to your fair next month.
Btw, thrilled to hear you scored Glasto tickets!

  21. Of course rules are made to be broken! I broke so many I finally gave up on having a rulebook at all! Beige looks fantastic on you as it highlights your colouring. Plus as long as its not head to toe, and broken up with a bright colour like you've done (red is usually what I pair it with, but being a NY'er a beige accessory and all black looks good too!) it works. I do hope you're feeling better, and being ill doesn't spoil your fun at the vintage fair. Make a ton of moolah! XXX
PS Glad you got your Glastonbury tix!

  30. I decided a while ago that when I get old I am NOT going to dress in beige like so many OAP's. (although currently I have a beige coat) I will wear red and cheerful colours and get my grey hair streaked with purple and wear lots of ethnic jewellery. That's the plan anyway!
Your lurex dress is gorgeous(loving the long sleeves) I know you will do a roaring trade tomorrow.

  31. I know exactly where you're coming from! I never thought I would see the day when I would wear beige! G is to blame; he works it so well, I was seduced by the beige side of the force! He also got me into browns and grays! Now I love them and wear them far more than I ever thought possible! The hat is frigging gorgeous, such a great shape, and you'll wear it heaps,I reckon!

  36. Ha ha, I don't think it's the neutral colour that turns heads and leads to nice comments, but the great hat shape and the spectacular head underneath... the beige is just a side effect. X

How I wish I could hop on a plane for 24 hours so I could come to your vintage fair.

  46. The hat may be beige, but with the rest of the outfit, it shines!! I love the way it dips over one eye. I'm adoring the maxi too. The way the embroidery of the vest compliments the pattern of the dress is just wonderful.

Have a glorious weekend and continue to mend.

  54. The only predictable thing about you is that you're unpredictable! I'm not sure it really counts as rule-breaking as its an accessory, it's a great shape! I'd be worried if you started wearing beige anoraks and slacks, but you definitely get away with this one!
