Remind me again of what I said on Wednesday, was it something about never ever wearing a certain colour? Take no notice of anything I say, rules were made to be broken.
I spotted this groovy 1960s hat in a charity shop window on the way to visit Dad in his nursing home this week and despite the colour, loved it. I hoped wearing it would detract from my puffy eyes and deathly pallor when I popped into town this morning for more medication. I was right, I got stopped and admired so many times I'm almost considering wearing more neutrals (ignore me, I'm sick).
Edward Mann hat (£5, Scope), 1970s Lurex maxi dress by Compass (Courtesy of Nelly), embroidered denim gilet (£1.95, Banardos), Bling-tastic pendant (handmade by Krista) |

Have a fantastic weekend.
See you soon!
I wish I could come over, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteEven beige will shine on you, my gorgeous.
Get better!!!

Too bad I live an ocean away! I feel the same way about gray, yet I have a long sleeve top and wooly sweater that are gray.....wear them both in the winter. Enjoy the sale and get better! Hugs to your Dad.
ReplyDeleteI will be off to a university open day with my son. Have fun. Lovely hat!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I wish I could be in Wolverhampton tomorrow. Your stall sounds amazing! Unfortunately I live too damn far away and Miss 5 is having a sleepover (yay me!) Make sure you get lots of pics so I can live the excitement vicariously!! xxx
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny Vix! That hat is gorgeous - nothing like a perfectly shaped hat - they don't make them like they used to. Adore that dress.
ReplyDeleteWish I could come see you - one day...
I'm sure it will go really well for you! x
If I lived closer I would definitely be paying your stall a visit! Hope it all goes well and that you start to feel a bit better x
ReplyDeleteHaha, beige is allowed if it's a hat! Also your outfit is bright enough to make up for it :) I love the dress! xo.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm going to have to drop you now, I'm afraid - beige indeed...
ReplyDeleteHa, as if ANYTHING you wear could ever be boring, Vix! The hat works with your style because it's such a fantastic shape and has that groovy bow, and it's the perfect topping to your delicious outfit.
How I love that lurex maxi (how is Nelly? Since I don't do Facebook and she stopped blogging, I don't know what she's up to these days...) and the waistcoat is a great addition.
Good luck for tomorrow (not that you need it), hope the punters flock to your stall and spend well!
LOVE!!! xxxxx
That hat is fab on you vix - sometimes you have to break your rules!
ReplyDeleteHave a fab weekend!
xo
Red and beige (or camel) is a great combination and red is your colour!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a successful sale Vix! Keep warm and drink plenty of fluids.
ReplyDeleteLove that hat on you. One beige item is okay, but I could never imagine you in all beige head to toe. Even as a corporate caterer. ;)
I'd love to see that hat on you while wearing your green tights, mini skirt, boots, and long vest. I've seen that outfit on you in here somewhere way back. Loved it!
Wow!! I love it. I love beige when it's a camel coat, Burberry style mac or 60s mod pencil skirt. Obviously the rest of the outfit is stunning, you look radiant, no one would ever know you had the lurgy. Your stall sounds soooooo tempting!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it counts as beige if you team it with that amazing print dress!
ReplyDeleteDude I love this hat on you. We will both forgive it's beigeness because let's face it, the hat rocks! I also love the frock you are wearing pink and shimmery bits, WOWZER! The floral detailing on the vest is extra cute too. I so wish I could come shop your rack! I feel so left out! Good luck, sell lots!
ReplyDeleteILOVEYOU!

You tease.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely fabulous in this dress, vest and hat. This is completely a combo I would wear. Sickness has aided you well in this instance if only for the sole purpose of putting you sights I've spotting that hat.
Have an amazing time at the fair I hope have another amazingly successful day. You tease again I will be no where near Wolverhamton.....I want even be in the same timezone.
What a fabulous hat! You could call it camel, or be like the fashionistas and say 'nude'. But why bother, as you say rules are made to be broken.
ReplyDeleteHope you make loads of money for your India trip tomorrow. I'm in Brum tomorrow, but I'm coming to your fair next month.
Btw, thrilled to hear you scored Glasto tickets!

(Oh, and really hope you're on the road to recovery now, but if not, get yourself to the quack!)
Hope you have a fantastic day at the vintage fair. And, yep, you even make beige look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteJust enough beige, it doesn't make you look atall! I'm such a sucker for neutrals, I need to take a leaf out of your book and throw together more colourful outfits. Hope the fair goes well, come to Cov and sell us your vintage finery one day please!! x
ReplyDeleteI would love to attend that Vintage Fair and talk to you!, and love your hat, it's obvious that your fabulousness is making it less beige and more amazing!
ReplyDeletePlease, get well soon, my dear lady!
besos & medicines
I'm sorry to say it, but that colour looks great on you!!It's such a beautiful hat and I love your (as someone we know calls it) 'lurid lurex' dress!!!This is something I would like to wear forever!
ReplyDeleteGood luck for the Vintage Fair I'd love to be there and buy everything from you!!
Have a wonderful weekend xxxlovexxx
Of course rules are made to be broken! I broke so many I finally gave up on having a rulebook at all! Beige looks fantastic on you as it highlights your colouring. Plus as long as its not head to toe, and broken up with a bright colour like you've done (red is usually what I pair it with, but being a NY'er a beige accessory and all black looks good too!) it works. I do hope you're feeling better, and being ill doesn't spoil your fun at the vintage fair. Make a ton of moolah! XXX
ReplyDeletePS Glad you got your Glastonbury tix!
It's nice!!!!!!! You look lovely!!! Good luck tomorrow!! More photos please!!!
ReplyDeletefirst time i have visited your blog in a while, as i have been away from the blogsphere for a few months, but you're just as stylish and cool as ever. beautiful outfit

Beige is ok when you can rock a fantastic hat like you do!!! Love your outfit!
ReplyDeleteOh if I only was on your side of the pond I'd be first in line at the sale!!
Good luck and come home with an empty gilbert-unless it's full of fab goodies for YOU!!
{{{hugs}}}}
Vix you look wonderful in beige! Your maxi dress is stunning too.
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the fair tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteHi my dear!! That is one gorgeous hat and looks fabulous on you! hope all goes well tomorrow xx
ReplyDeletei wish i were going to be near...
ReplyDeleteyou in beige! well i never. don't hate me for saying this but next thing you know you'll be wearing that hat with a pair of awesome bell bottom blue jeans and a chambray shirt. that i'd love to see...!
you look amazing as usual dear vix.
xoxo
If possible I'll drop by tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI decided a while ago that when I get old I am NOT going to dress in beige like so many OAP's. (although currently I have a beige coat) I will wear red and cheerful colours and get my grey hair streaked with purple and wear lots of ethnic jewellery. That's the plan anyway!
ReplyDeleteYour lurex dress is gorgeous(loving the long sleeves) I know you will do a roaring trade tomorrow.
x
I know exactly where you're coming from! I never thought I would see the day when I would wear beige! G is to blame; he works it so well, I was seduced by the beige side of the force! He also got me into browns and grays! Now I love them and wear them far more than I ever thought possible! The hat is frigging gorgeous, such a great shape, and you'll wear it heaps,I reckon!
ReplyDeleteI really love that frock. And G and I love Gilberts decorations!
Yay,another fair! Go get 'em,killer!Sounds like you've got everything I want...but I already knew that!
Love Helga xxxXXXxxx
You could never blend into the background vix! Good luck with the fair!

Very chic! I'm not surprised you got stopped & admired!
ReplyDeleteGlad you felt good enough to venture out - even if only for meds.
i told you before, never talk about the things 'you never want to wear', they will catch you. ;)
ReplyDeletei really love this hat on you. it's fabulous!
Love the hat on you! And what a fabulous coral maxi!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I don't think it's the neutral colour that turns heads and leads to nice comments, but the great hat shape and the spectacular head underneath... the beige is just a side effect. X
ReplyDeleteif only I lived closer I'd be visiting your stall like a shot. I need to thank you too for your recent posts about your previous corporate life, they came at just the right time for me and really struck a chord. You have helped me to see the change I need to make to my own life to truly start living. Thanks. Linda xxx
ReplyDeleteI don't do beige, but it is only a hat so you are still all good!!! Good luck with your selling, and if it was possible to come I so would!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck gorgeous!!! Don't forget to stun the shoppers with marvellously shocking tales of "origin" - heheeeee;);) xoxooxoxo
ReplyDeleteI think the general awesome-ness of the hat makes up for the beige;)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck for your stall - I wish I could go!
Rules were made to be broken! And you can wear beige because of your fabulous skin tone.
ReplyDeleteHow I wish I could hop on a plane for 24 hours so I could come to your vintage fair.
Tomorrow we have a craft fair in the covered stadium which nearly bankrupted our city - how gloriously ironic.
I think beige is the new you, Vix. You look fabulous especially for not feeling well. And your sale sounds too cool. I do hope you find some old thing to wear for it!
ReplyDeleteYou do NOT look sick! That hat looks great! I am playing catch-up, by the way, after having a sick computer. You have so much posted here that I have missed! So many treasures. Love the braids!

What a groovy hat. I always assumed I could never wear beige, but I've been breaking my own rules lately too. I hope the fair is a roaring success....just wish I could be there! Xx

Wish I lived nearer to where all your fabulous vintage fairs take place!!
ReplyDeleteHonestly wouldn't know you're poorly, you look gorgeous and the hat is great.
Feel better soon!!
Lxx
The hat may be beige, but with the rest of the outfit, it shines!! I love the way it dips over one eye. I'm adoring the maxi too. The way the embroidery of the vest compliments the pattern of the dress is just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHave a glorious weekend and continue to mend.
I think you more than most can get away with breaking the rules Vix, even if they're your own rules! You look gorgeous in this hat and your dress is so shimmery and pretty. I wish I could get to your fair, hope you do really well and add lots to your India fund. xx
ReplyDeleteMixing it with colours and its great ! Love that hat ! The dress and the woman is so beatuiful !
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is fab, love your dress and the hat looks so good on you :)
ReplyDeletesooooooo loving that pink lurex maxi dress...good luck at the fair!!x
ReplyDeleteThrifting is the prescribed cure for whatever ails you. Happy treasure hunting.
ReplyDeleteI shall have to pop up to Wolverhampton and catch up with you at one of the fairs...and no doubt be tempted by all those gems on offer xxx
ReplyDeleteAmazing hat, and I agree: rules are made to be broken, especially when you do it so stylishly! I wish I could pop into one of your sales - betcha I'd buy a truck-full! Have a good one. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe only predictable thing about you is that you're unpredictable! I'm not sure it really counts as rule-breaking as its an accessory, it's a great shape! I'd be worried if you started wearing beige anoraks and slacks, but you definitely get away with this one!
ReplyDeleteHi VIx,
ReplyDeleteI do hope it went well today, so sorry I couldn't make it. Typical.
Would you believe that your photo has popped up on my Facebook?! David is a friend of mine and taken many lovely photos of my girls. Yours are stunning hun.

ReplyDeleteI don't mind a bit of neutral especially Seventies trousers suits and hats like yours. It looks fabulous with that gorgeous dress.
xxxxx
The hat is fab! I want to attend one of your vintage fairs and buy all kinds of goodies :)
ReplyDeleteYou do look very fetching in that hat!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better now.
I swear I commented on this DAYS ago - I think Blogger is conspiring to keep us apart! You look GORGEOUS of course - I love this beautiful maxi - and the hat is killer... you could wear any colour and it would never look drab on you, amor. Love that necklace too - Krista is so clever. Love you more than PINK! Sarah xxx
ReplyDeleteI would so love to come to see your stall...it would be amazing x
ReplyDeleteBeige looks good on you. It goes very well with your dark hair. Love the color of the maxi-dress. And the dress itself offcourse. You are always looking so lovely...

Oh my gosh, I love your dress! So cute!!!
ReplyDeleteDarling you're so fabulous you could wear actual poo and we'd all still love you!!! So beige is fine, albeit in small doses!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fab hat on you Vix, rules are always made to be broken on occassion and this is just one of them! xxx
ReplyDeleteThe shape of the hat suits you perfectly, and by pairing it with your glorious sparkly maxi and denim you have managed to banish it's beige-ness.
