Last night accompanied by a glass of Rose and a repeat of Benidorm I got cracking on transforming the 1960s tablecloth Sarah sent me in yesterday's parcel of joy into something fit to wear.
Using one of the fabulous vintage Jiffy patterns Tamera sent me within an hour I'd knocked up a half-way decent frock suitable for a jaunt into town this morning.
Simplicity 8259 rocks - I've made every pattern up at least twice and I love them all!
The print and style looked familiar so I googled Cher in a mini dress as it looked like something she may have worn, but, as usual, I was bombarded with a load of images of me.
It's become a bit of a game between Clare and I, whenever we search for any images (not just Cher) I do have an annoying habit of popping up. You name it, from jumble sale, 1960s Bollywood actress in bikini to Man in Cape there I am.
Cher and me we're one and the same, Jon's not convinced about his new hair style though.
Tablecloth mini dress worn with turquoise opaques (bought 3 years ago) and suedette T-bar platforms (£5, local boutique), yellow wood bangles (Mrs Allnut) |
Right I'm off to the pub and looking at these photos I'm in need of more eyeliner and shed load of turquoise eye shadow before I can face Walsall by night.
Have a fantastic weekend and don't do anything I wouldn't do (wear beige, act your age, behave.....)
Dearest Vix,
ReplyDeleteanother DIY dress triumph, you look smashing!
Have a cracking weekend.
Lot's of love,
Jennie...xXx
lordy Vix, you do look like Cher - a better looking version at that! ;-)
ReplyDeletelove the dress! :)
I hope you have a fab weekend!
xo
Well done you on the fab frock! The print looks like it was made for you. I love it styled with the colourful tights of course! ahha, loved the image of you and Jon. Happy weekend dear Vix! xx
ReplyDeleteSuper make, just right for the fabric! Enjoy your Friday night!
ReplyDeleteYou are SO channelling your inner (and outer) Cher in that delightful tablecloth dress! The pattern and colours are perfectly mod, and your legs look 10 miles long. I was a huge fan of Sonny & Cher as a child, and wrote them fan letters and sent along drawings I had done of them. I was an odd child ;)
ReplyDeleteI think Jon better shave his head and start over! Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteIf I lived near you I would pay you big bucks to make me these 70's clothes. I love them so much. And I love that dress you made from a tablecloth. So freakin' talented!
Thank you for your sweet comment today too. I guess the eye makeup really makes a difference. I'm wearing much more eye shadow now ever since I woke up from this darn cold. Feeling a bit more umph! in my get-up. ;)
Now let's go to the pub and have ourselves some English brew!
That's it! I'm going to have a go at dress making! I've recently made bags from patterns and I'll have ago with some of my gleaned vintage fabrics - I love that dress xxx p.s I got a fab jumble dress to wear to the blog awards - very 80s but great xxx Froogs
ReplyDeleteThere are probably people who would love to eat off that dress like some wild debauched parties with people covered in food at the buffet. You whipped this together in an hour? Wicked wicked. I also love Jon's new haircut! He's looking rather smug about it.
ReplyDeleteFantastic frockage...love it. I have the same pattern and have yet to use it. Now I am inspired.
ReplyDeleteI've always said you are a double for the wondrous Cher...I've got that LP as well!
Have a stonking weekend.

ReplyDeleteIt looks far better as a dress then as a table cloth! I was actually thinking of listening to some Cher when I do some baking this afternoon. She's my guilty pleasure.
ReplyDeleteHaha I love the fact that images of you dominate that google search for Cher! The montage of you and Jon on the Sonny and Cher picture hilarious. Wonderful dress - you are quite the seamstress now!
ReplyDeleteNo she didn't! AGAIN! Love it! Vix this is a real hot number and made by such sweet hands! Sarah really knows some delicious potential and this is just fabulous! Love the album cover of you and Jon, I think you are both much hotter than the real two ever were :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend making Walsall wicked! I will try and be around Sunday it might just happen earlier in the day.
Love you!!!!
Krista
"The Wonderous World of Jon and Vix"........love it!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the sewing...as usual.
That album cover is such a hoot! Yes, you do look quite Cher-itable in that dress. Please never wear beige, unless you find some fab accessories to show it off!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab tablecloth transformation! Love that print, and the matching tights too! Have a fabulous weekend :) x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab tablecloth transformation! Love that print, and the matching tights too! Have a fabulous weekend :) x
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that you pop up with alarming frequency on Google images too! I love it, it's like being friends with a celeb! I laughed my arse off the first time a pic of me appeared.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you ARE a dead ringer for Cher (and love). That album cover is the business, why won't Jon grow his hair into a full-on Sonny? Spoilsport!
Another fabulous creation, what a wonderful print, and the colours suit you so well. You could run up a frock blindfold, I reckon, you've got that skilled.
Have a great night. Don't worry, I'm wearing bright orange, planning on a boozy weekend (sans kids, whooppee!) of misbehaving. See you on the other side! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
That dress is adorable, you look so pretty in it!! I admire you so much, you alwasy look absolutely amazing, and lovely person to boot!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to catching up on some reading now :)
xxx
You so DO look like a young Cher! And what you can do with a tablecloth boggles the mind - have a fab night! xo
ReplyDeleteTotally stunning. By 'eck, you're a wizz with the sewing machine these days.
ReplyDeleteThe tights and shoes are inspired with that dress Vix, such a nice combination of colours, and I love the Sonny and Cher album cover, I need to google Cher now and see you popping up. People always said I looked like Cher when I was younger but it was the big haired 80's Cher because I had an uncontrollable big mop of hair. Now she looks younger than me though she must have twenty years on me! With your great style, Cher would probably be wanting to look like Vix! xx
ReplyDeleteFab frock Vix. I can`t believe you made it so quickly. The coloured tights look great too. I remember wearing coloured tights or black tights and coloured shoes at one place I worked and lots of people would stare. I love the look tho! It certainly didn`t stop me.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun night.
Dx
Your much better looking than Cher and more real. Loving the dress you did an amazing job ;-) Have a lovely weekend, dee xx
ReplyDeleteHa ha, great album cover!
ReplyDeleteThe tablecloth dress is gorgeous, I can't believe you made it in an hour.
Fabulous! Hope Jon doesn't try to lay the table later! ;-O
ReplyDeleteHave a fab night out!
Hahaha at the morphed poster. You look like you belong there.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress ... have your hair grown longer? They seem longer! :)
Have a good weekend!

Your dress is amazing - such a fantastic pattern! Funnily enough I was googling a Vintage shop called Jumble People the other day and all I got was pictures of you!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous and have a wonderful night/weekend.
Nikki x
PS I still love that rug
Excellent DIY dress Vix - there's something fabulous about making something fun and new out of something that's considered to be "past" its used by date by others:D I especially love this with the tights - its like they are meant to be together!
ReplyDeleteExcellent DIY dress Vix - there's something fabulous about making something fun and new out of something that's considered to be "past" its used by date by others:D I especially love this with the tights - its like they are meant to be together!
ReplyDeleteJon superimposed on the album cover made me chuckle - you are a dead ringer for Cher though. I'm amazed at what you can do with a tablecloth, is there no end to your talents? Linda xxx
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely channelling a young, hippy chic Cher :-) Only much better looking!
ReplyDeleteYou look a dream in that mini dress.
ReplyDeleteO,darling Vix,you've put a big smile on my tired dial with that uber FABULARSEHOLE frigging tablecloth FROCK!!! I love it!!! What a divine print.Indeed, far too awesome for the table!!! I adore you.You rok my world!!! Pour on the turqoise shadow and take Walsall like it's never gonna believe it!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious, incidentally, that you turn up everywhere!!! AND fabulous! I can't think of anyone I'd rather have XxxxXXxxx
I freaking tablecloth? Damn! And the tights match? Shut the front door!
ReplyDeleteYou look like Cher, only you have achieved that au naturale!
ReplyDeleteFantastic dress.
I can assure you I will NOT be wearing beige!
x
Oh please I want a Sonny and Cher re-vamped poster on my wall!!
ReplyDeleteeverything you touch turns to gold and here is a vintage tablecloth that is one of the most lovely swinging 60's dress that I ever seen!
You should wear more and more mini skirts: your legs are fantastic in coloured tights...
I must come to visit you to have a makeup (and cider, of course) overloaded night out in Walsall!
Lots of love!
I can't believe you just knocked that up, it's awesome. I also can't believe you've owned a pair of tights for three years without them turning into a laddered mess.
ReplyDeleteYou're really talented--I know I've said that before but it's true. It takes a lot of chutzpah to turn a patterned tablecloth into a fab mini dress and even more skill to make it one you'd actually be proud to wear. And that is so funny about your image popping up when you Google Cher. I gotta see this. Have fun at the pub.
ReplyDeleteOh my ... You two as Sonny and Cher ... hilarious and excellent, though I do think Jon's own hair-do suits him better. Love the tablecloth dress!
ReplyDeleteI always knew that you & Cher were really the same person! Haha, Jon certainly doesn't look too sure about his new hairstyle. That dress you knocked up is Cheriffic! I love the bonkers fabric, and it looks awesome with those tights.
ReplyDeleteLaughed out loud. Doubt that Jon comes up when you Google Sonny! But, I would like to hear the two of you sing--perhaps, "It Ain't Me Babe"
ReplyDeleteOh, and the dress turned out well.
Nice collection of dress. Thanks for sharing the blog and keep on updating.

ReplyDeleteI believe that you made a dress out of a potato sack it would still end up looking fabulous!!! Love the tights and shoes!! ~♥~
ReplyDeleteOMG---you look amazing!! That tablecloth was MADE to be a mini!!!
ReplyDeleteI adore that print (my fav colors) and you are rocking it.
The Sonny & Cher photo---ROFLMBO--yeah I don't think Jon's rockin' the Sonny bowl cut!! You however look FANTASTIC as Cher.
Have fun at the pub!!

WHAT were the tablecloth people thinking??? That fabric and design was totally meant to be a dress!! And WOW you look quite groovy in it too!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a little laugh over Jon's hairstyle, I must admit. =p
I love that dress, this is one of my favourite outfits on your blog now Vix, you just look fabulous. Loving the teal tights too. xxx
ReplyDeleteVery successful transformation of tablecloth to frock in record time. And I love to see your home decor displayed as background. Not planning on wearing beige here!
ReplyDeleteWell, Miss Smarty Pants, so you just whip up a fabulous mini dress from an old tablecloth. The next thing you will do is tear the curtains off the windows and make a ball gown out of them, just like Scarlet Ohara did with those green velvet drapes from Tara. Don't go making a silk purse out of a sows ear either!
ReplyDeleteLOL at things you wouldn't do. Oh my uterus hurts. ha. Love the transformation of the dress, and Yourself and honey as Sunny and Cher.
ReplyDeleteMy dear Vix, only you could create some much magic with a table cloth.
ReplyDeleteWhen I put myself together, I must try.
As you well know, your body lands, but your head is all over.
Much love always.

Wow that dress is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteBTW your eyes look blue indoors and really green outside, what's going on there?? As usual I'm the last in the world to comment, hope you had a fab weekend and bought lots!!

Fashion, Well Done
Fantastic, I love those shoes and tights and they look so wonderful together x
ReplyDeletewhat a fabulous frock - looks super cute teamed with the green stockings too xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a skilled seamstress you are getting the print of the tablecloth centered and everything (I'm sure I'd have ended up with the big yellow flower on one hip). It looks amazing with the turquoise tights.
ReplyDeleteI've started to wonder if google remembers site you've visited. Anytime I look up something 1970s related, I see multiple images from your blog and now I've started seeing images from my own blog. It can't be that my blog has the most traffic for that search term, so I realized that it is probably returning results for sites I've visited with some frequency. Either way, you are definitely a celebrity.
That blue and green combo has been a favorite of mine since spring and I am loving seeing you in it! The dress turned out great and I like the green bottle next to you as well :) You are really inspiring me to want to try to use my sewing machine for the first time. I hope I don't sew myself to my project like I did in 9th grade :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful outfit! I especially love the fabric you used.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is gorgeous!!! I love the fabric and the style of the dress is perfect for showing off the pattern. Your picture of Sonny and Cher is hilarious. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your refashion! Looks great and the tights I love too!
ReplyDeleteLove your refashion! Looks so quintessentially 60s! Digging the tights too!
ReplyDeleteDear Vix, I totally love the Cher thingy. I got you babe. I used to listen to them when I was little. I love the tights and heels too!!

Lynn
OK - working my way through blogs - you're first of course - I love this dress - you'd never guess where the material came from, it looks like it was made in the 60s rather than last week! xxx
ReplyDeleteAah! I love the record cover, that's hilarious :P
ReplyDeleteI love your style! I am so glad that Stacey from Owl Obsessed Oddity linked to you. You're amazing <3
