Comfortably Numb

I'm a step closer to being fixed! I'm just back from the dentist who, being the coolest bloke in NHS dentistry, waived his £48 fee and fixed my busted tooth for free. He saw me in Mumbai a few years ago but couldn't get my attention over the traffic noise on Colaba Causeway. I loved it when he told me that, being spotted by someone you know in a foreign city half-way around the world with a population of over 21 million is totally insane.

I'm supremely grateful but, man, is PK heavy handed with the aesthetic? My face is so numb I'm speaking like I've had a head injury and I reckon I'll need a straw to drink my bitter at the Black Country Arms later (but at least I've got more cash than I initially expected so the first round's on me).

I unearthed this Berketex Boutique maxi & head scarf when I was rummaging in the wardrobe to make room for my new acquisitions (I donated 5 pairs of boots & sandals, 3 tee shirts, 2 sarongs, four bags, a purse full of jewellery, a bikini, 3 scarves, a dodgy-looking ornament and a stack of paperbacks to the Sally Army this morning). Over the past two years it's seen me through everything from arranging Mum's funeral, hosting dinner parties to cruising down the Mandovi river in Goa on a disco boat and large-ing it to Spiritualised & Groove Armada at The Big Chill. Not bad for an outlay of 99p.

Yesterday's free bag needed help, beige wasn't really doing it for me so I gave it a home dye job between last night's Olympic action. Dylon's Flamingo Pink (courtesy of Annie) is so much more me!

1970s maxi & head scarf (Bay, 2010), macramé bag (free), Festival hoop earrings (Helga)

Right, it's early doors this evening and I'd better get my act together if I'm going to make the pub for 6pm.

Have a fabulous weekend and see you very soon!

  10. I love that dress and scarf on you, the colours are so beautifully summery and ice creamy and pretty. And to see you through so much for a measley 99p? Fantastic!
What a great dye job on the bag, beige is so not you, but hot pink? Yes indeed.
What a kind dentist you have, he sounds a cool dude. Glad to hear the tooth is fixed, hope the ankle and the toe nail follow suit. Now get that round in, and don't incur any other injuries this weekend, love! Have a good one. xxxxx

  11. That's a great outfit. Flamingo pink = rocking! I'm soon going to paint my toilet room in that.

I am currently also watching the Olympics (5am!) Remind me NOT to let any of my kids participate in competitive BMX racing! Carnage!

x Op shop gods will smile down on you due to that donation you just made! x

  12. You do look like yummy pastel sorbet in that outfit! The bag is definitely better as pink. You are much braver than I when it comes to dyeing items. I would be afraid that I would make a complete mess! That is an unexpected windfall when your dentist waives the fee - that would never happen over here!

I'm glad you have the skill to experiment with the dye. Everytime I've tried, I get a tye dyed effect...

  19. Wow, great dress! It's fab when you unearth old treasures. You have a very cool dentist - mine will try and charge for everything they can! I'm sure your theory about clothes karma is right - I've been spotting lots more vintage recently after making some donations.
Do you have any tips on finding dye cheaply, other than eBay?

  20. That frock looks amazing on you and I love what you have done with the free bag.

  21. Brilliant dye job on your bag. Nice one. Wish you better on the teeth front.

  22. Now you've got me thinking about dying my boring beige bag. Those earrings are crazy. When I go to the dentist I feel like a need a sippy cup afterwards, it's that or dribble all over myself.

  23. Like a summer dream walking! That is so cool about your dentist in Mumbai, it really is a small world, isn't it? Take care of that tooth. Well, take care of all of them but you know what I mean.

  36. What a nice dentist you have Vix, and generous with the anaesthetic too, though I have managed to bite through my lip without realising it, it's been so numb after the dentist's! I love what you've done with that beige bag. You've inspired me to make a new bag for my daughter because she'd inherited a black velvet hippy bag from me and she loved it but it got ripped irreparably. Your outfit is gorgeous, so summery and pretty. xx

What a nice dentist. Once I waited in the visa application line at the Indian consulate in New York City and chatted with the man behind me for hours. Three months later I ran into him in a shop in suburban New Delhi. Makes you realize what a small world it really is.

  43. Last time I had dental surgery I ended up dribbling my beer in the pub! I'd rather use a straw than take the pain though haha!

What dear friends are the gorgeous frock and scarf with it's scrummy frill - they've been on so many adventures with you lovely Vix. I love to hear about your regular clear-outs - you're the one who inspired me to get rid of something every time I snaffled something "new". I'm getting there:)). Big hugs to you my friend, I hope your poor mouth is recovering from its ordeal! xoxo
