Inherited Treasures

I nearly passed out with excitement when the postman arrived bearing a parcel from my fabulous friend, Krista yesterday.

A patched-up denim mini, studded hair band, scented oils, a beaded shawl, a touring guide to Scotland (we've chatted about how we'd both love to do a road trip there one day), a Shiva fridge magnet, a mystic keyring, fairy dust, a rocking CD compilation .............

....... the most insanely fabulous selection of jewellery...

...and these trousers!

I must have lusted after some perfectly fitting black leather pants for over a quarter of a century. The second-hand ones I've always found have that typically 1980s unflattering tapered leg with a waistband that reaches my armpits. These hipster Fly Girls beauties were Krista's when she was in college and now they're mine. I love them!

It seems only right to wear Krista's pants with another inherited piece, my Great-Great-Grandmother's mourning jacket, circa 1860.

Rock chick leather pants and a jet encrusted bustle? My namesake, poor old Queen Victoria, would be spinning in her grave at the audacity.

Barry M's looking a bit tired today, luckily my bling takes the attention away from my tatty fingernails. I'm been on a creative roll this week and my nail varnish has suffered.

Leather pants & Victorian jacket worn with purple vest (50p, car boot sale), Suedette platforms (£5, local boutique) and 1970s Panda hat with metal band (£4, Birmingham Settlement)
Krista, you rock!

  21. Krista is so perceptive, always seems to know the right time to come up with something to lift the spirits. LOVE those leather trousers, I know exactly what you mean about the 80's style ones, usually slightly baggy on the thigh too - awful! I always see ones with 'CLASSIC Woman' on the label - catalogue I think.
The stories behind today's look are priceless, nobody could recreate it. That is very special.

  24. Krista does rock!!!!!!!!!
I am at this very moment trying to stretch my size 8 leather pants into 10's! It is working except for the waist!
I'm using shower steam and putting them on wet (which is a feat in itself) and they are forming to my arse and thighs.
I suppose only losing a couple inches will make the waist fit,LOL!
You look awesome and I am so jealous ;)

  32. I just love that mourning jacket. It's fantastic that an item like that is being worn today as everyday wear. I used to have a Victorian satin handmade skirt with loads of excess fabric at the back where the bustle would have been. I wore it to death til it started falling apart.
