Kitsch 'n' Sync

I spent yesterday afternoon in the kitchen trying to use up some of our bumper apple harvest.

Raiding the larder.

Do you think I make a convincing little housewife in my vintage pinny?

A surprisingly tidy kitchen.

Creating.

Vintage blouse (the gorgeous Scarlett), Dollyrockers maxi (99p, eBay), retro Tina motif mug (the awesome Alex)
I know, it is unusual to see me posing with a non-alcoholic drink.

 Here's what I made.

Apple & Ginger Flapjacks

1kg apples - Peeled, cored and grated
200g oats
70ml Golden Syrup
150g Butter
40g Demerara sugar
Pinch of Salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger

  • Simmer the apples with the sugar until soft.
  • Add the butter and golden syrup.
  • Stir in the oats, salt and ginger
  • Pour into an 8inch greased cake tin.
  • Cook for 40 minutes at 180C.
  • Allow to cool, turn out and cut into slices.

So delicious that when a girlfriend called round earlier we ate the lot over tea and gossip.

Jon decided to test out a 1960s Polaroid Swinger camera he bought at a car boot sale last year.

Have a lovely evening, see you soon.

  5. Dearest Vix,
    your kitchen is so awesome!
I think I'd be doing a lot more cooking not to mention baking if I had a wonderful kitchen like that.
Those flapjacks look yummylicious. I'm not surprised you guys scoffed the lot in one sitting.
Do you make a convincing housewife in your pinny?
    Of course you do darling!

  7. The polaroid picture is great, the grainy look gives a lovely vintage feel (to the photo not to you!) The flapjacks look yummy. Your kitchen reminds me of the Galloping gourmet, do you remember him? I used to love watching that programme when I was little. Em x

  10. Great to see the chef at work!
You DO indeed look the part, although you are a lot more stylish than I am when baking - where is the flour in your hair and the butter smears on your clothes and the generally frantic expression?
Flapjacks and tea and gossip are a perfect recipe for a wet afternoon! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  11. Those flapjacks look very tasty and nicely presented too!

P.S. I like the Polaroid snap, it looks like it could have been taken in the 70s.

  13. Looks like the perfect afternoon to me. If you weren't so lovely I'd be jealous of your tidy kitchen, gorgeous outfit and the flapjacks!
Love the photo of you with the mug, something very serene about it, if you published a cookbook, that'd be the one to use to show Vix at home.
I've been given a ton of pears, not a clue what to do with them.

  14. A recipe from Vix - that's a possible first! Not tried flapjacks with ginger - they sound yumscious. Am going to have to make those at the weekend...

Love spotting all the vintage pieces around your kitchen - love the oven gloves. And is the bambi/fox dish for the butter? Agree with Luce about the polaroid; you and it look so authentic (apart from perhaps the microwave?) xx

  27. *mMmM* What you made looks absolutely delicious. I have a whole crisper full of apples atm.
I might have to give your recipe a go. Only trouble is I woun't looks half as fabulous as you doing so. *hehehe*
P.s. I have said it before I will say it again. I am crazy about your kitchen. It is a absolute dream.

p.p.s I have had a old polaroid camera for about 3 years. And never came across any film until sometime last week. A thrift store had a few packages for $5 each. So I bought 1 which expired back in 2001. *HAHAHA* It was gonna either work, not work or half work... It 85% worked. I have a few brown blotches in the top corners but other than that the pics turned out alright. They are also a little more faded than they should be. Where did you get your film from?? E-bay or something?
I HATE that they stopped making & selling the film.
    I <3 Polaroids!

Thanks for the recipe. It's really funny, but as I was reading that part of the post, I was thinking, "wow these apple flapjacks sound so good, I can actually smell them!" and then I discovered my mom was baking apple crisp downstairs and that is what I was smelling! Hahaha!
