Favourite Bling On A Friday

A badly behaved cat meant we got to yesterday's car boot sale somewhat later than usual, but no matter, one of my favourite sellers had this vintage vision waiting. She tries to keep the "weird gear" aside but she's learnt not to worry if she occasionally misses something, no one looks at the kind of stuff I buy so it's quite safe on her stall until I get there.

Not a single stone missing and only the finest Swarovski crystals, naturally.

This dress had been hanging up for three hours with a price tag of 50p and not a single soul from the hundreds of early morning bargain hunters took an interest. I love being a weirdo.

1970s crimplene midi dress worn with Office velvet platforms, a heap of trashy jewellery and a made-by-me fake fur collar.

I don't have many midi dresses in my wardrobe, they can feel a bit mediocre compared to minxy mini or mental maxi but with it's bling I reckon this is a keeper and therefore my favourite thing this Friday.

More of yesterday's car boot sale buys:

Clockwise from top left: 1930s plaster bust (£1), 1970s Clan Laird maxi-length kilt (50p), 1973 Butterick pattern with iron-on transfers (25p),  Fringed shawl (50p), 1960s West German clip earrings (20p), Ceramic swan (10p), 1960s St Michael lace slip (£1), 1960s Richard Shops Bri-nylon blouse (50p), 1970s dead stock tee shirt (50p) Simplicity 1971 pattern (25p)

I'm overwhelmed with the response from my last post, the comments you were kind enough to leave blew me away. Thank goodness there's so many of us who aren't prepared to listen to "the experts" and conform to "the norm". Thank you for your overwhelming support, honesty and fabulousness.
Let's continue to stand out from the crowd and stick our fingers up at being conventional.

Have a fantastic weekend and see you very soon.

  6. What a beautifully made dress, 50p? Even a bar if chocolate costs 65p!
Red looks striking in you, I feel empowered and confident in red, I think you'll have a memorable day wearing that.
Badly behaved cat - made me laugh. Even your pets refuse to conform.
    Have a lovely Friday.

  7. Offset by the soft greys, that is a beautiful and very slinky combination, Vix - I agree with you wholly, who is to say what conventional should be - Who gives others the right to dictate how we should live our lives (provided we don't break too many laws!)?

You go, Vix - Have a wonderful weekend xxx

The last outfit you wore on the previous post was gorgeous too. Love the black and purple together with your dark hair. It reminds me of my mispent youth! lol.

There is always someone telling you what to do or wear. I stopped watching old Gok Wan ages ago I found it too depressing.

  14. I always used to be mini or maxi, but midi is winning me over- it's quite a practical length (short enough to walk in, long enough to bend over in) - so it does need a bit of bling to pep it up.

I can't believe that dress was there at 50p and no one too it, daahn saahf it would have been snapped up!

  29. That dress is lovely. The colour and the beading look fab. The boot sales around here haven't resulted in such gorgeousness but the charity shops come up trumps for me instead so I'm not complaining!

Thanks for your lovely comment, it's mad how paths almost cross isn't it? I was in Japan from early in 93 to the end of 97. I had the best time and, looking back, can't believe what I got up to! Em xx

Cats are so funny and super intelligent. Thomas has a habit of doing things like this although sometimes he is stubborn and won't come in before we go out.

Also he has a habit of deciding not to eat his food until we put treats in the bowl with the food or ham or roast chicken!!!

Well, lucky for you though, eh? Hehe.

    You look fantastic!

PS. I missed your last post, but just want to say how much I agree with you. One of my closest friends (ex-boyfriend's mom, actually, haha) is 52 and she dresses like she wants: short leather skirts, sexy lace tops, etc.) and she looks fantastic! She does get slack for dressing the way she does, which I think is mostly due to jealousy from other women her age, than actual concern...
