Vintage Buys & Frocking Brilliant Surprises

I love you guys. I was overwhelmed with the kind messages of support. Sorry to be cryptic in my last post, it's my Dad who's been admitted to hospital and both Jon and I are fine.

Scarlett's blouse worn with a 1950s crushed velvet hat (20p, jumble sale), crimplene maxi skirt (courtesy of Sarah), tooled leather bag (£1, car boot sale) and 1970s rope & bead pendant (Inherited from my Mum)

In addition to emails and thoughtful comments I've received two surprise parcels in the post this week.

Have you visited the fabulous Scarlett? If not, why not? She's hilarious with a legendary eye for a bargain. She sent me this gorgeous cape-sleeved shirred blouse, a stunning wooden & brass bangle (on the other arm, which Jon neglected to photograph).

Vintage maxi dress worn with 1950s goatskin clutch bag (20p, car boot sale)

She also sent me this fabulous maxi dress which fits like a dream and I'll be wearing with my purple cape when it gets a bit colder.

Vintage frock worn with faux snake heels (20p, jumble sale found by my friend Cheryl) and a tooled leather Kelly bag (£2.99, British Heart Foundation)

My dear Sarah Misfit sent me this splendid handmade frock, aren't the colours spectacular? Just the job for brightening up a gloomy day. I tried unsuccessfully to take pictures last night (hence the arty shot at the top of the post) but it's approaching that time of year which makes blog photos nigh on impossible after tea time.

We managed to visit another car boot sale yesterday. The weather's looking decidedly dodgy for the weekend so I had to get my fix in early. This 1970's newspaper print cheesecloth shirt was £1.

This St Michael navy & white skinny tee was 25p

These 1970s tortoiseshell Foster Grant sunglasses were from my favourite 20p man

The 1960s Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass powder bowl is crammed with old powder puffs at the moment, but I'll use it for storing brooches. There was a lady holding it before I spotted it, she asked how much it was and threw it down in disgust when the stallholder told her the price muttering "I can't afford to pay that, I'm a pensioner". How much? Fifty whole freaking pence.

This beaded skull cap was £1. The elderly lady seller bought it on an Egyptian cruise and won first prize in the captain's fancy dress.

We've no plans for the weekend as yet, probably a night in with a takeaway and a bottle of something alcoholic later.

Hope you have a brilliant evening whatever you get up to.

Love the green skull cap - exquisite, and what a great story with it.

There's so much to comment on here - where to start?
The blouse and dress from the fantastic Scarlett look made for you.
The handmade dress is just your style, and the bargain finds are excellent.
My mum wears Blue Grass, she would have snatched that tub from your grasp at 50p!

I always wanted a newspaper-print dress as a child, a blouse would suffice now, very chic.

Enjoy your weekend, sounds like total relaxation is needed.

  28. See if you can get help and advice with the Altzheimers for your Dad, Vix - the advocate that the hospital social team appointed for my Aunty was massively supportive when she ended up in hospital after falling. And they were brilliant with my Mum (who had been her carer for years).

Keep going hun - thinking about you - you will come out the other side.

Take good care of yourself - hope everything gets sorted out very soon xx

  35. Looking beautiful Vix and great finds as always! Ha it really gets on my nerves when people complain/try and haggle for items at 50p or less at boot sales- the poor sellers get up at the crack of dawn for god's sake, give them some credit! Not sure how long your masthead pic has been there as I usually read my blogs through my Google Reader but I must say it's absolutely stunning xxx

The Elizabeth Arden powder bowl is so classy and elegant looking sat with your Max Factor kitty! I can't believe that old dear was too stingy to fork out 50p for it! Her loss, your gain!

It's also a night in with a takeaway for us tomorrow.. Sleepy Hollow will be the film of choice!

Have a lovely relaxing weekend Vix, and I hope your dad is doing OK and gets better soon! xxx

Love Love Love the sunglasses and that green skullcap I have seen some here at some of the very authentic Arabian stores I actually saw one made out of what looked like gold coins ~very pretty I should have got it I mean every one is staring at me already right hehehehe!! might as well work it lol!! Well the book that you were curious about was a very raunchy romance novel like way over top it even made me blush :O and it had some very cheeky words & pictures in big print on the front cover so it was pretty easy to spot and not quite okay for the elementary crowd they have a few years before they can check that one out Lol!! ~ Well if the weather goes kooky there I do hope that you have a fantastic and fun weekend inside ~Love Heather
