More than Cape-able

Ready for another cape?

Jon snaffled this 1970s "Craftcentre" Welsh-made capelet for 50p from the nearly new rail at a jumble sale a few weeks ago.

I thought things were about to kick off when an old lady stopped us on the way out of the church hall to ask if we'd got a cape in our bag but thankfully I was safe, she just wanted to make sure I'd bought it as she said there were few people who'd do it as much justice as I would. How sweet.

After salivating over a sexy backing singer at Glasto rocking leather hot pants I decided to get the scissors out on these fab 1980s leather pants my fabulous friend Kitty had sent me last year. I loved them as trousers but they work so much better as shorts. The leather is so buttersoft and luxurious I had no trouble at all hemming them on the sewing machine.

Up-cycled leather shorts worn with  grey suedette ankle boots (£5, local boutique), 1970s C&A tee-shirt (£1.99, Banardos), denim waistcoat (£5, bought pre-Millennium),  Patchwork leather shoulder bag (£1, car boot sale), Felt corsage-trim hat (50p, car boot sale)

Is it a keeper? Maybe. Stephen Squirrel seems keen and it went down well in Asda, too.

A bit depressing that the layers and tights are out isn't it?! Never mind, it means you shall be jetting off back to Indian soon I imagine.

Ash is looking a little better now thanks, just washed out poor thing.

  18. oh my goodness! You did a fantastic job reconstructing these shorts! I love the pleats up top! I've always found that thicker materials are much easier to sew than soft silky fabrics. I love the color of your tights too!

  38. And rock that cape you certainly do my lovely! I envy you going into cape and tights weather ... sigh ... there just aren't enough cold days here for me to get through my obscene number of winter clothes. I'm grinning from ear to ear over the lady's comment about you deserving to buy the cape:)). Such a fantastic idea to turn the trews into shorts - you'll probably end up wearing them so much more because you can show off your super-large tights collection on your super-gorgeous pins!! xoxoxoxoxoxox
