Booze, Buys, Baltis, Buses & Weekend Fun

We've had a full on weekend and it's still only Sunday. This was taken on the way out on Friday night, believe me you wouldn't want to know what I look like this morning.

I scored an unprecedented heap of 1970s fabulousness from the town centre charity shops on the way back from my Friday swim.

We went to the pub.

Met Liz and Adrian

I had to give one of earlier buys a trip out (1970s maxi, £4.95, Walsall Hospice). Liz wore the Danish day dress she bought at the vintage fair a fortnight ago.

(Marks & Spencer had reduced their bras to £1 last week, this one's a cleavage booster, if you couldn't already tell).

Indulged in a random assortment of real ale (this is Trappist Monk at 8.5% it's deadly stuff)

As sure as night follows day, an evening of beer leads to a trip to the local curry house.

I could just eat it all again now.

On Saturday after an epic lie-in to recover from the copious amount of booze we'd knocked back we caught the bus to Birmingham.

We visited K-Boot, Kerrang's urban vintage and craft event.

I love vintage clothes, cars and interiors but drinking tea from mismatched dainty china cups, nibbling on fairy cakes or watching ladies with red lipstick and victory rolls singing torch songs just isn't really me. Kerrang offered retro clobber, a beer tent and live thrash metal, a marriage made in heaven.

I couldn't resist these beauties.

We called in to visit Liz's gallery in The Great Western Arcade.

Does she look familiar?

Yep, it's me.

After trawling the city's vintage shops we retreated to the Medieval opulence that is The Bacchus Bar for a restorative beer or three.

Then we hopped on the bus back home, Liz left us to join her work mates for a curry.

We nipped to The Wheatsheaf for a quick half, which lasted a couple of hours and a few more pints than originally anticipated.

Our friendly bar man who's also a prospect for The Winos Crew announced that the Hell's Angels are opening their own bikers bar in a couple of weeks time and we're invited to the opening night. Now I can live my Sons of Anarchy fantasy for real.

And if that's not enough excitement for a weekend the organiser of the monthly jumble's just called to invite me for a pre-sale preview on Thursday morning.

Hope you're having a fabulous weekend. I'm off to catch up with three days of blog reading, looks like I'm going to be some time.

  12. It sounds fantastic. I had a night in with Steve, his daughter and her fiance, eating pizza and watching Toy Story 3. Oh and Steve's oven caught fire a when a wayward loaf of garlic bread went up in flames. Just a normal Saturday night in... xx

  13. Aaaaah those BOOTS!! To die for

True fact, I mistook the close up on that painting for a photo of you.

It's a real bummer though, I spent Saturday thinking 'if only there was something ON', and I coulda got to Birmingham in forty public transport minutes! Shucks.

  26. So much fun in one weekend - brilliant.
The painting has captured the Vix we don't get to see - engrossed and focussed on tailoring duties - it's very serene and feminine, lovely.

Oh to have a good drink followed by a lie in, and access to such wonderful clothes - add curry to the mix and the most gorgeous boots I've seen in years, and you have perfection!

I could hardly get past that blue jacket in the first photo. I just plain like it.

After that wild weekend, I think 3 days of blog reading would be a good way of "coming down"! Enjoy.

Oh - and I read of your First Place honor! Congratulations, Vix! Well-deserved, for SURE.

  38. Haha, I have a couple of those M&S bras! Excellent boosting powers!

I like my vintage a bit ballsy. Cake is all well and good but I'm sure the vast majority of the 40s and 50s women that a lot of people seem to be aspiring towards didn't sit round being polite and dainty all day. I'm sure there was lots of smoking and chugging of ale.

It's taken me all day today to work through my blog roll and at least comment on the most recent blogs. I don't dare try and catch up on all the ones I've missed - it'd be a neverending job!

  47. Wow you guys really packed in a FULL weekend! And as per usual, glamourously so! I love all the photos, and the painting of you is lovely, really captures something special. Word of warning though; real biker gangs don't treat women as well as on Sons of Anarchy. Women are pretty much treated like dirt. Please trust my word on this, from experience. So be on guard and keep Jon close!

  61. Love how you girls wear the patterns so perfectly as if you agreed to it... Beer and curry house sounds like great weekend fun - and oh! these boots!! xo

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yep I'm more Kerrang vintage myself, too.

I remember when it was called 'retro' and you wore it to rock and indie gigs, and all the cupcake girls would be disgusted by smelly old clothes! How times have changed.

I do like cake though. It doesn't have to be pretty. And tea...out of ANY cup. The fact it's been appropriated by 'vintage' (which should actually be 'shabby chic' as that's what it always was) doesn't matter a jot either way to me.

As ever you are rocking a maxi - with added omph! - but my favourite photograph is you in the portrait, it's just beautiful. You've been captured so well, and I love the reflective mood it evokes. Is it up for sale or decorating the shop permanently?

  66. My goodness it sounds like you had a fun and fabulous weekend!! We were stuck in the house because of the riots and then Adrian and I dared to sneak out for a little bit and almost got caught up in the teargassing with people running all over the place so after that we hunkered down in the house and stayed there!! Ha you will be living the Sons of Anarchy if you start hanging out with the Hells Angels....And those boots are super cute and I love the fringe skirt looks great on you and the painting WOW how cool is that. My hubby loves the Chimay blue ale the Monk drink is strong hehehe...well I am off to make curry here that's whats for dinner! Have a fantastic week :) ~Love Heather
