I'm A Frocking Rule-Breaker

It's Friday and I really should be frocked up,

but I found this tee shirt in a charity shop on the way home from the swimming baths earlier and just had to try it on with the skirt I was already wearing.

I never wear tee shirts but when I spotted this divine print nestling amongst the racks of unwanted Primark and Papaya my heart skipped a beat. A 1970's original from good old C&A which, bizarrely, is also the make of my maxi skirt. Like most of the vintage clothing I own it's perfectly proportioned for my shape with well-fitting sleeves and a neat neckline.

They don't make 'em like they used to.

Vintage tee shirt (£1.99, Banardos) 1970's frilled maxi skirt (50p, Wednesday's car boot sale), Mexican bucket hat (Free from a car boot trader), 1940's glass choker (inherited), Beaded peacock bag (50p, car boot sale), handmade leather chappals (£1.80, Tamil Nadu)

My lovely pal, Jennie, suggested I post some of my cheapest outfits. This one comes in at £4.79 which is cheaper (and will last significantly longer) than a round of drinks will set me back in the pub later.

Have a fabulous weekend.

  6. Got to love a bit of C&A. I remember spending many a saturday in my youth trying on clothes we couldnt afford on our pocket money in C&A.
The tee looks awesome with your maxi skirt.

  8. Vix, You're such a rebel!! Good old C&A... My Mum used to drag me around that place as a child, and Chelsea Girl, now that's a label I've never come accross since. Have a great weekend. Xx

  9. Yes, C&A is a strong memory from my childhood, and that t-shirt is definitely the stuff of my youth (nicked off my older sisters!)
You look amazing, of course, and it's no surprise at all that your outfit comes in at under a fiver - that's the Vix Trick!

PS. Haven't had chance to comment on yesterday's post, but wanted to say the catsuit is ridiculously lovely! Well done with the selling - see, multitalented! She buys, she sells, she makes, she tidies, she's got it all!
Have a superb weekend, you've earned it!

  11. I still miss C & A - My hubby sent me a text the other day - I had to buy a suit for my new job - "Try c and a", he typed...

He hadn't realised that they left our shores years ago - You can still find them in Germany, I believe...

I love the greens in that t-shirt and how they pop with your bag - Very sweet, Vix! Bonne weekend! x

  12. Perfect green - and great pattern. I like the bag-tee combo too.

I've remembered great stuff from c&a I had circa '74... shame I couldn't have kept, and super-sized, them to wear now ;) x

  14. Hi my dear-C&A at its very vintage best, you look gorgeous!! Have a grand weekend xxx

  15. I adore C&A, and this example is one of the reasons why. There seems to be no attention to detail in today's mid-range high street designs.
LOL at the Primark/Papaya comment - every charity shop must house the same poor-quality shapeless T-shirts, fleeces and bobbly p.j bottoms. The charity shop Gods must have been busy today, I found a St Michaels dress which fits like a glove, £3 (steep!) but worth it!
Have a fantastic weekend, Lucy x

  33. Looking fabulous as ever! C&A can still be found in Switzerland too btw

Interesting to see the sizing in there too, www.retrochick.co.uk has done a thing on vanity sizing and sizing being made clearer, I remember never being a size less than a 14 in the late 70s and early 80s, but now that would equal a more like a 10! mmmm great to see sizing on labels from then, I knew it!

  41. Lovely outfit

ha ha I don't think those measurements would be a size 10 now. Its true they don't make things how they used to.

Thanks so much for the info on the website in Tenerife I shall have a look at this.

I did reply to your comment on my blog too xx

  54. Two more things we are utterly in agreement about:
    1) 70s C&A rocks.
    2) Nothing wrong with a bit of rebellion, especially on Friday.

Mind you, I LOVE a t-shirt: the deliberately scruffier/rockier the better. I like to juxtapose them with things that could otherwise be too twee!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Haha I had the exact same tshirt in yellow! (I may still have it, I'll have to have a look!) xxx
