A lady was examining this beaded skull cap at Saturday morning's car boot telling me how it would make a great addition to a little girl's dressing-up box. Little girl? Pah! You're never too old for a dressing-up box. I hovered around until she put in back in the 10p box and immediately snaffled it for myself.
Faul pearl skullcap worn with 1970's-era crimplene maxi (my darling Sarah Misfit), floral silk halter top (the divine Ivy Black), 1950's gilt brooch (50p, car boot sale), vintage knitted bag (20p, car boot sale), assorted second-hand brass and wood bangles and rings.
Here's a few pictures from Saturday night when we went to Liz and Adrian's for dinner. Adrian was so busy in the kitchen I never took a photo of him, how rude!
Homemade hummus topped with toasted seeds, fresh coriander and flour tortillas.
We vegetarians had roast vegetables with barbecued Halloumi cheese, paprika couscous and a spiced chickpea and tomato stew. The carnivores also had barbecued lamb and posh sausages.
Me anxiously awaiting permission to tuck in.
Our mates Darren and Cheryl. When it's the school holidays Cheryl's my partner in crime for days of charity shopping and Wetherspoon's lunches.
Liz (in a rather fabulous Warehouse maxi dress) and me (in a tribal print maxi courtesy of the beautiful Sarah Misfit). I'd eaten almost an entire block of Blackstick's cheese to myself by this point and was ready to explode.
Jon (charity-shopped western shirt and a woven wristband from a temple in Mysore, Karnataka) with his customised Babybel rind ear jewellery
Chickpea deliciousness.
No night's complete without the loan of my vintage Party Tree. Saturday's was decorated with Adrian and Liz's homemade and homegrown pickled tomatoes and walnuts, fresh green chillies and assorted olives...it was stripped bare within minutes.
I've eaten so much over the last three days that I'm going to have to do double my usual exercise or I'll be capsizing a barge at next weekend's canal boat festival.

You have the perfectly-shaped head to wear that skull cap BEAUTIFULLY! I'm SO jealous.
ReplyDeleteThe party-fare got my appetite revved up. I ♥ hummus and really must learn to make it. As it is, I'm always waiting for the "buy 1 get 1 free" specials in our deli...
Vix, the skull cap matches beautifully with your lipstick!

You look like an elegant Oliver Twist character waiting for your dinner! Mind you it all looks so delicious I would have been waiting ready to pounce myself!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone as stylish as you endorses 'good enough for a little girl, good enough for me' accessorising policy. I feel vindicated and ready to fight for my right to wear unusual hats!!
Girl's dress up box... What are you thinking, lady?!?! Glad she left it to you who appreciates it properly and on whose head it looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy the return of the vintage party tree. It feels like an old friend to me now... and I know it's (been) the weekend. xoxo
Dearest Vix, that food's not touched the sides, you look tiny. Your back looks great in that top too.
ReplyDeleteThe scull cap's lovely on you. I gave an electric blue one to my friend's kid a little while ago, I should have given it to you instead!
I'm so glad you explained the Jon picture I wondered what was going on with his ears! I thought they had an odd red glow to them.
Love you xx

ReplyDeleteToday I bought a ditsy floral hair band lol like one of those stretchy ones I have similar plain white flower ones but it looked so pretty and I thought what the hell I am going to buy it.
It does look nice in my hair or so I think and if people think I am too old to wear it then so what thats their problem.

ReplyDeleteThat party tree is amazing!!!! I was in the charity shop recently and there was a little girl trying the hats on. I have to confess I was gutted when she decided to use her ''pocket pennies''on the one I had my eye on! I felt like a bad person the rest of the day for having mean thoughts! I'm over it now though! ;O)x
ReplyDeleteVix, you look amazing as ever - your back view in that halter neck is like sculpture! I think you can eat all the food you like, you don't need to worry.
ReplyDeleteHow happy do you and your friends look? And who wouldn't when faced with that glorious food?
More smiling pictures please - love them!

ReplyDeleteLittle girl my arse, that scullcap was made for you! Funnily enough I was thinking about those earlier today, I'd quite like a cream crochet one. I remember when grunge was in my mum made one for one of my friends birthdays, perhaps I could convince her again! That feast looks delicious, I am salivating xx
ReplyDeleteOh it's lovely. I wonder if the woman at the car boot was cursed with a giant head like mine and thought it would only fit a child? Or more probably she's just a bore with no sense of adventure.
ReplyDeleteFirkin' FOXY!!! Unexpectedly cool look, baby!! You look sumptuous!

ReplyDeleteI'm horrified at what people shove in their kids' dress up boxes!!! Bloody hell, if there's a dress up section in an op shop, it's where I usually find all the best stuff! The silly woman did not deserve that incredible skull cap that's giving me goosebumps - I'm so glad you snaffled it because you look gorgeous wearing it. I love these pics Vix, you have the most beautiful smile and there's no way you'll be sinking boats ... I've been thinking about you, you must be counting the days to Glasto?
