It's nearly festival season and our dear old Volkswagen camper, Gilbert, is back on the road and we're busy getting him ready for an active summer.
Sadly it's probably his last year with us, our 1970 VW Bay is up on the ramps, being restored to her former glory so poor old Gilbert will have to be sold to pay for all the work. I can't wait to meet her, Jon's forbidden me from seeing her until she's fully transformed.
Yes, we have got a thing about orange. |
In the meantime he's getting a lick of paint and being restocked with more retro camping items to make life on the road more comfortable.
Vintage melamine egg cups 50p from Thursday's car boot sale.
1950's first aid tin, complete with medical supplies
50p from yesterday's bank holiday boot sale.
Vintage crimplene mini dress by Wendy (yesterday's boot sale, 50p), Liberty silk scarf (Scout jumble sale 5p), Striped over-the-knee socks (Poundland) and original 1970's Dunlop wellies (YMCA charity shop £1.95), Floral bangle (my darling Sarah Misfit) |
Thankfully the boiler's mended and we have water again. Hurrah for fellow classic car owning plumbers who fix things for free.
Yay! I'm the first to comment! That figure on the First Aid kit is downright haha!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful. The floral bangle is enviable.
I'm sure we had those egg cups! He he he. From the thumbnail pic and without my specs I thought you were cleaning the campervan!!! My jaw was on the floor. But on closer inspection you're not. Phew....
ReplyDeleteI really love the last picture! Your bargains are sooo incredible - a liberty scarf for only 5p !) is like a crime ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the color mint on you and the high socks with the rain boots. The look is classic and festival attire trendy at the same time.
ReplyDeleteAm not usually a fan of the welly-sock combo, but you work it here. GREAT VAN BTW.
ReplyDeleteWay la roulotte y su dueña. ¡OLÉ!
ReplyDeleteI seem to rememeber similar eggcups from my childhood - I have a feeling they were Tupperware ones.
ReplyDeleteRocking the festival style vibe!
I have wanted a green Volkswagon van since I was 11, I used to imagine having bright curtains with little pom poms on the bottom bouncing around whilst I was driving about town. I could sleep in the back whenever I wanted in any store parking lot in town. My parents always laughed when I would say I would FOR SURE get one. Well it hasn't happened yet... but ya never know. I guess I will be happy with any vintage vehicle in the future I want something from the 50s - mid 70s
ReplyDeleteYour vans are so AWSOME!! I am lovin your outfit!! *Cute*
And that vintage first aid tin is one of the neatest finds. It's amazing it still has it's contents.
I remember those eggcups - my Mum probably still has them in her cupboards!!
ReplyDeleteHurrah for festival season - shall be watching some on TB but heading to Latitude for the 5th time this July - can't wait :)
Hi my dear-hurrah for the return of hot water, so pleased the boiler is being fixed!! Thats a shame Gilbert is going, me and hubby would adore a camper but unfortunately we can't fund one at the present time ;-( Can't wait to see your VW Bay fully restored!! Love your dress too, you look fabulous as usual!! xxx
ReplyDeleteI love this look - so pretty and so hippy) I love to wear striped over-the-knee socks too, but mostly with canvas sneckers. Have to remember to try this look myself)
ReplyDeleteGlad your boiler's fixed.
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy to meet Gilbert- I do hope he finds a new home who will take good care of him in years to come! :)
Dearest Vix, you look gorgeous. I love the whole outfit. The dress is great with your tan. And you even look fabulous in wellies!!
ReplyDeleteAhh! Poor Gilbert, what a shame he has to go. He's looking good though.
Much love to you xx
Had to laugh at the picture on the first aid tin - knowing you I'd quite believe you would pack a nurse's outfit as a camping necessity!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the free plumbing - good ethos applies to domestic emergencies too.
I love those egg cups i used to them a lot at one time they always came in great colours. Love your little dress today real cute and with the wellies i would say you are more than ready for the festivals ;-)) Can't wait to see photo's of your new camper how exciting ;-)) dee xx

ReplyDeleteUr striped socks are cute and this is the first time I have seen melamine egg cups. so cute!
ReplyDeletePoor old Gilbert although I am sure that he will find a good new home. What type of conversion is your new camper as it looks similar to ours? x
ReplyDeleteI have some of those egg cups... but I don't know where they are. I'm so envious of Gilbert... can you believe that before Easter I was offered a steal of a Moggy... and I had to turn it down because of all the uncertainty at work?!?!? gutted! xx
ReplyDeletereally love your camper orange van, (love orange!!) and your look is pretty hippie-chic, with your wellies and striped socks!
ReplyDeleteand I think it will be a delighful summer season for your van!!, it rocks!

Can we swap lives Vix? Just for a little while? Or at least possessions and wardrobes ;-)
ReplyDeleteNow that is handy! Plumbers are the most illusive characters ;)
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous as always. Goa gives you a glow vix ;)
What are you up to this summer? I rarely do festivals, but we have friends going to Standon Calling so might go there. Gilbert is lovely, it will be sad for you to see him go. But the new wheels will be worth it, I'm sure xx
ReplyDeleteps you would DIE in Germany. We had such a hard time finding anything with vegetables! Have been eating salads non-stop since being home.
We used to have egg cups just like that when I was younger! The first aid kit looks like an amazing bit of retro nostalgia! Great find.
ReplyDeleteThat dress you are sporting is so very cute! Love the shape of it and the white lace and OMG polka-dots! xxx
Bloody hell, I love those egg cups so much! And your outfit is fab - that FROCK is divine on you and I love the socks - you and Helga both have some! I am still on a mission for a vintage van: as much as I would ADORE a kombi they are just not suitable for our summer climate. Heartbreaking! You are so beautiful Vix, I can't wait to see your festival pics.
ReplyDeleteSarah xxx
Sock envy!! Damn my wide calves - I always find that knee highs are cut for skinnymalinkys and entirely restrict my circulation below the knee. Not so healthy.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is utterly splendiferous. The lacey insert and trim is just magic.
Boots + rainbow socks = adorable.
ReplyDeleteI am so green with envy! You have the coolest VW EVER!!!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm sure you'll be giving Gilbert the best year ever, with a big send off. I bet you can't wait to see your bay, whats she called?I hope you get her finished for your travels.Love your vintage accesories, and your Wendy dress.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is gorgeous on you I love the colour. Looks great with those boots too xx
ReplyDeleteAh Gilbert, such an Orange beauty. Can't wait to read all about the travels you embark on. Andy is obsessed by getting one, we are always looking, think it's been a dream of ours for quite a while.
ReplyDeleteDress looks great, and I love those socks! perfect for wellies.
xxx
Why do I never find frocks this fabulous for 50p! My dear - the striped socks - rock! xxx
ReplyDeleteNow I hope no orange paint ended up on that lovely dress Vix. I am such a clumsy clot, it would be a given if I tried painting while dressed in something fabulous...
ReplyDeleteCurtise x
Those socks! They are so incredibly awesome. It will be sad to see Gilbert go, but such is life I guess. I can't wait to see how the VW Bay turns out though!
ReplyDeleteSorry to read that it'll be Gilbert's last year with you, but am looking fowards to seeing the new and improved bay - have you a name for her yet? I love that bright orange colour they used on the veedubs, it always reminds me of the orange Smartie and you can't fail to be cheered up by that colour.
ReplyDeleteAwesome outfit though, Vix! Thats a stunning dress especially when its teamed with those socks and wellies.
xxx
If I'd ever have enough extra money (extra money...like there is such thing) I would get a camper van. Such a lovely things.
ReplyDeleteYour dress is sooo adorable. Loving the colour.
Thanks for letting me know about your camper. Our is a Safare Custom Camper and whilst there are a few in the States knocking around as they were built in Calafornia, they are rare over here. I love learning about different conversions/campers and their history as they are all so individual. :)
ReplyDeletethose egg cups are quite amazing.
ReplyDeleteOoh that blue is just smashing on you. Your van sounds like one happy camper! xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteHaha awesome socks, my Poundland is not that kind to me! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in these photos!!
