Road Trip

Vintage maxi skirt (Darling Helga) worn with 1950's Elgee jacket (Sue Ryder), wool beret (Salvation Army) and inherited Art Deco belt
Jon won a roof rack for our VW Beetle on eBay and, like most things he tends to win, it meant a long drive to pick it up.

Our journey today took us to the Derbyshire Dales to the lovely market town of Wirksworth calling in on Matlock on the way.

Whenever he embarks on a drive out I always check the Association Of Charity Shops website first to see whether it's worth me tagging along. There were several listed in the area and although the prices were good the pickings were a bit modern for my old-fashioned taste.

It's been such a beautiful spring day that it didn't really matter that I only spent £3

Vintage glass swan £1

Some fabulously groovy dressmaking patterns at 50p each. These will go with the ones I won in Shirl's giveaway last week. I can follow a pattern but often need supervision as I'm a bit impatient and rash. The 1963 Jiffy one is apparently a simple one so there is hope.

Jon's very excited about this apparently rare 1970 edition of a buggy building magazine for 50p - just in case we ever get bored with the Beetle we can pimp it up.

My meagre finds were soon forgotten as I arrived home today with three fabulous parcels awaiting.
I won this 1970's green tab colour blouse on eBay last week and both the fabulous Sarah Misfit and awesome Alex had sent me treats.

Vintage maxi (courtesy of my fabulous Helga), 1970's blouse (eBay), Tribal collar (Inherited), 1950's bag (Car boot sale), Vintage beret (Salvation Army)

More will be revealed tomorrow!

  4. Ah well, at least it was a nice day out! At least if the weather in Derbyshire was anything like it was over here - it's been chilly but beautifully sunny all day.

That maxi really is a stunner and so is the new blouse. Also huzzah for the postie, I wasn't expecting that to arrive so soon. Fingers crossed it doesn't swamp you...

  8. Do you know that I was thinking about that charity shop website only today as Mr J and P and I are going on a cheeky charity shopping trip on Friday - and I couldn't remember what the site was called. Will save as a favourite now. Georgeous skirt.

  16. Thanks for the charity shop link, Vix; I'm heading up to Lancashire soon and will check out some of the shops up there.

The buggy book looks like a great find; I love those big chrome wheel trims on the front cover photo.

P.S. Monkeychild has just seen your photo and said 'That lady wears cutie things' - nothing like influencing them when they're young I say!

  24. Looks like you had a fab day. Loving the skirt.

I had a blue beach buggy many years ago, which was no use nor ornament when you live in the midlands. strangely enough I didn't keep it too long.

    Much love x x

  25. Love the skirt :)

Good luck with the patterns and making. I tend to stick to very simple things using my own 'pattern' pieces - I still have nightmares about school sewing and pattern following!!

  29. Your's and Jon's car is so amazing (why don't people in Dublin drive amazing vintage cars?! well...some super rich -mostly men- people do drive up and down the Phoenix Park in beyond-shiny vintage cars BUT they're just doing that to show off and because they have nothing better to do so that doesn't count. and they only do it in the summer)
Anyway, I want a car like your's when I'm old enough to drive. Who needs a brand new one when you can have THAT?

  35. Dear Vix,
Lovely blue sky, what a great day for a road trip!
As a matter of fact I am actually a smidgen jealous.
I LOVE the English countryside & can think of very few things that I'd rather do than to visit little quaint villages.
The glass swan is lovely and a tremendous bargain at only a quid, well done.
    Luv,

  37. Oooh, looking forward to seeing your pressies. You left us on a cliff-hanger there!

I checked our charity shop on the weekend and it was £14 just for a dress from bloody Zara (not even very ncie). Ebay is so much better for me, it is just no good at all looking in charity shops in posh areas xx

  38. Dearest Vix, what a gorgeous and stylish couple you are. I'm sure you'll make good use of that roof rack. I'd love to see you pimp up the Beetle! I'll call you this week for a catch up if you're around. Love C xx

  39. Argh, so much amazing. I love the print on your maxi skirt. Both you & Jon look absolutely fabulous!

  40. Agree with all of the above - you and Jon are such a fab glam couple! And I also love you in green - you look so beautiful and I adore your jacket (and nailpolish!).

I want to move to the UK - cobbled roads and pretty green fields and the Vicar of Dibley and Father Ted and Dr Martin and Dave Gilmour... everything is pretty there and you have an Association of Charity Shops - how bloody civilised!

Thanks for the post beautiful Vix - can't wait to see your parcel treasures!

  45. I like the lack of snow and ice over there. The patterns looks great, the right one is probably uncomplicated too.
