It must be nearly spring! Jacob's out of hibernation and chomping his way through organic cherry tomatoes and fancy lettuce like there's no tomorrow. In case you haven't met before he's my Hermann's tortoise and I've had him since 1976.

As promised here's the lovely treats that were waiting for me in the post box when I got back from my road trip yesterday. My dear friend Alex sent me the fabulous 1960's lurex dress. If I'm not sweeping the floor with a maxi then I'm showing my knickers in a super-short frock. That's where the vintage bloomers I got from Saturday's jumble sale come in handy.
She also sent this awesomely frame-worthy card. I have a collection of vintage hairdryers so this will compliment them perfectly!
Beautiful Sarah Misfit crocheted me this gorgeous shawl. She worries about me not owning knitwear with our freezing British winters but she doesn't have to, I walk everywhere and exercise a lot and my B Postive's constantly pumping through my veins, keeping me warm.
From Sarah and how apt. Isn't the crocheted flower corsage lovely? We both adore yellow.
It'll be perfect for sitting around the campfire at Glastonbury.
The ever-entertaining Jenni sent me some gorgeous Maybelline "Egg Plant" nail polish after I admired it on her blog.The oval wood ring, brass buddha and the purple cocktail ring are 50p boot sale buys and the others are inherited.
Have I got the oldest pet in blogland? He's probably older than many of my blog readers!
**TORTOISE UPDATE: Jacob was a 6 inch long baby when my Grandparents bought him me as a present during the long hot summer of 1976. He lives in a wire pen in the garden during the summer and spends the winter months sleeping in a box filled with straw in the unheated utility room. He comes to the top of the box when he's ready to come out of hibernation and we give him a shallow bath in warm water. Until the danger of frost has passed he lives indoors. He eats mainly lettuce, rocket, cucumber, tomatoes and strawberries but is partial to cat food. The cats hate it as he pushes them out the way to eat their Whiskas. He is a cheeky boy, loves a tickle under the chin, basking in the sunshine and is known to nibble toes if they are painted in bright pink or red. As they can live to way over one hundred years old I have to make provision for him in my will.**
You've had him since 1976?!!! That's incredible! I bet he's older than loads of your readers, sadly not older than me ;o)

Ok I now love you even more, that tortoise is beautiful! I studied animal management for three years and you would always find me in the reptile house! We had a beautiful tortoise in there that had been rescued by the RSPCA from a garden where he was chained up. He's called Mr. T and has a hole drilled in the back of his shell where the chain had been.

ReplyDeleteI used to ask my mum if we could have a tortoise when I was a wee child. She always said that she would be stuck with it when I grow up and move out so she never let me! Her and her siblings had one when they was young though.

I had a pet baby tortoise given to me around 1978/9 and had to give it away when I moved countries - I always wondered what happened to it - what a fascinating pet!

How lovely to meet Jacob!! He is 5 yrs older than me. It is interesting to know how he comes out of hibernation I had always wondered how you knew. My old dog Sheba was a chihuahua and jack russle cross, she lived until she was around 18 which is pretty old. x

I have two guinea pigs called Peggy and Joan. I like the rings you have on in this post,I have a growing obsession about rings but not sure I will ever be able to wear six all at once!!
