You know what the great Beth Ditto says? A day without makeup is a day wasted. I slept away most of yesterday so I'm making up for lost time by wearing both a fabulous frock and some brightly coloured slap.
A tad over-dressed for a trip to the corner shop? Better than under-dressed and a missed opportunity.
I've punished myself with a two hour Wii Fit workout and it's salad for tea with NO alcohol. There's still some booze kicking around the house but I'm giving my poor battered liver at least 48 hours to recover.
Make-up: TopShop's Pinch blush, One Off Mac powder shadow (both presents) with black kohl pencil bought in India and Boots' 17 Pink Power lipstick.
I bought this bag for 50p from a car boot sale last summer. After I'd paid the seller came running after me asking "Is your mother called Jenni?" She'd known Mum in the Sixties and she thought I was a dead ringer for her.
Me (with the rabbit), my little brother Marcus and Mum in 1968. |
I wonder if she ever used the bag when they were friends?
Spring Green Barry M polish going strong since Saturday.
Vintage maxi dress (Courtesy of the lovely Amy), Levi's denim jacket & fake fur stole (Jumble sale buys) |
We're off on a road trip tomorrow, lets hope I pick up a few bargains along the way.
Barry M nailpolish really is the best - I haven't found another that out lasts it. And I think I took the 'day without make up' maxim a little too literally when I wore Saturday night's make up right through until my eventual shower at 9pm yesterday. Shame on me. It's the first time in years that I've popped off to bed still wearing the make up!
ReplyDeleteLove the purple dress!
ReplyDeleteI have a very similar bag!! I must dig it out!! How lovely that lady remembered your fabulous Mum and recognised her in you!

Barry M since Saturday?? I think I might have nails that just don't take kindly to nail varnish. Instant rejection. Anyway..I love that Beth Ditto quote! She rocks. Beautiful shade of purple and I like that lace detail. I can see where you get your sense of style from; it must be in the genes.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm wearing Barry M too - the 'Racing Green' shade.
Your make up always looks fab. I've got some questions for you. What foundation do you use? You never mention foundation so maybe you don't use it. Also, what routines do you do on the Wii Fit? You're looking as stunning as ever. xxx
ReplyDeleteThat bag is surely lovely and eyecatching. You look very nice Vix. That purple dress is a great color!
ReplyDeleteThe bag is bigger than I thought. Like it!
ReplyDeleteIt's been said before but how glamorous was your mother?!
It sounds like such a wonderful coincidence that you bought the bag, almost like it was meant to be. I can’t wait to hear about your road trip tomorrow, have a splendid day xxx
ReplyDeleteLove the 60s bunny...very topical for Chinese new Year (of the rabbit).
ReplyDeleteLoving the purple dress. Such a vivid shade. You look delicious (is it wrong to use that word?) in all the bright colour. Must be a sight in your neighbourhood. They should consider themselves lucky :)
ReplyDeleteTwo hours on Wii Fit?! Wow, half an hour's enough for me! Fab outfit, as always. It's great that the car boot lady thought that you looked like your beautiful mum. That's such a sweet picture.
ReplyDeleteRe your comments on my blog - sorry about the vintage book, if it helps I've seen a few from my childhood (80s) described as vintage! I'm definitely keeping the handmade dress, my heart leapt when I saw it - it's a tad big (for a change), but a belt will solve that!
Dearest Vix, your mum looks super stylish and fabulous, just like you. The purple dress is gorgeous. Over dressed? never!
ReplyDeleteI'm off the booze too. I was drinking some Marigold veg stock earlier he had decided he wanted one (not being on to miss out on anything) he then put Bovril in his followed by a shot of vodka. How he managed to from that to an alcoholic drink i'll never know!
Love the bag and that the lady recognised you. Love C xx
I'm glad that you had recuperate. Lovely purple dress and the bag colors and design are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYour mom pass on the stylish genes to you.
you should write a little fashion book about your Mom, she sounds so fashionable!
ReplyDeleteOh Vix, you are such a woman after my own heart (I bet I've said that many times)-- dressing up to the corner store with such a bright attitude!
ReplyDeleteI love to slip on my red pumps just to go to the post office to collect my mail too. Just because :)
Love the story about your bag. Amazing to think how she recognised you.

You look fab. All the bright colours in the midst of this wretched grey winter, cheers me up.
ReplyDeleteLove you lots.
Oh lovely Vix, I've not been online all weekend and I've missed reading your blogs. You look fab as always, and I love that bright funky bag! I'll look forward to reading about your road trip! :-) xx
ReplyDeleteHi my dear-what a wonderful story about your thrifted bag and the picture of you, your brother and your mum is just so lovely!! I do love your maxi dress and faux fur stole, happy road tripping tomorrow! xxx
ReplyDeleteThe bag is gorgeous. You'd never find anything like it on the high street. Great story about the seller knowing your mum and about seeing a resemblence.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see you'd put up a post - thought you might still be in recovery lol.
And do you not get dark shadows under your eyes? You look very refreshed and innocent on those photos. Me I'd look like a zombie/panda for a week afterwards.
Glad you're feeling better today, Vix - me too!! Makes me laugh, most of my bloggy/Twitter friends are in their late 20s/early 30s, and are all a bit appalled (though in a nice way, it must be said) about my penchant for a few cocktails and more-regular-than-they-should-be hangovers. I'm just happy us gals in our 40s still know how to party and put these young 'uns to shame! xx
ReplyDeletesuch an adorable bag... love it!

We are trying to be healthy tonight too, just made a huge pot of veggie soup for the rest of the week! Your little hood in the photo is so cute, you were always a wee fashionista weren't you! x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress Vix! xxx
ReplyDeleteYou DO look amazing today! That frock is to die for. You are making me feel a little terrible about my diet at the moment...!! I've eaten far too many home made apricot and chocolate cookies and have done no exercise since belly dancing last Wednesday night! Blerrghh...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the inspiration. I am going to do up my face and drink some green tea!
Xox Claire
PS. Good luck treasure hunting during the road trip!
You are a stone cold fox, Vixen.

Have you ever done a kohl DIY? If so, I'd like to see it.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's so cool about your mum's friend! Love the nail polish, Barry M is my fave - I keeo meaning to make more effort to wear bright coloured nails but I can never be bothered (Ha, and I'm saying this to the woman who puts on full slap to go for a pint of milk!) Enjoy your road trip xx
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so strange about the lady selling the bag, you do look very alike.
ReplyDeleteGood girl (haha! patronising!) on resting the liver, mine got rested after a heavy Friday on the Thatchers cider. Mean stuff that is.
Love, love, love the rings.

That's amazing that your bag used to belong to your mom's friend. The world works in mysterious ways. I love beaded bags, but I'm afraid that I would destroy them. They're so fragile.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds and a blast from the past...sounds like a good day x
ReplyDeleteWow great bag, I love stories like that! :)
ReplyDeleteYour mums style was incredible. An unbelievably yummy mummy, and especially so with two very young kids...really need to get my act together ;)
ReplyDeletex
Dear Vixy,
ReplyDeleteI love that purple frock; it's gorgeous!
Yet another colour that was made for you :)
I have a brown maxi dress with the same sort of crochet decoration but it would probably take me the best part of a day to locate it.
I'm having a great big sort out at the moment, trying to put all my clobber in some sort of order, a very time-consuming exploit as you can well imagine.
I have to say that you look amazingly fresh faced & lovely for someone who has just had a wild weekend of it, I’d probably still be in bed hiding from the world but you are obviously built from stronger stuff than I.
Two hour workout, eh, MUCHOS RESPECTOS to you!
I remember those bags from when I was a kid; I always wanted one & funnily enough also scored one from the car boot sale last year, mine has got Bambi on it.
Lot’s of love,
Jem
xXx
Ditto to Beth ... I certainly agree with her and I'm gobsmacked at this gorgeous ensemble - what a beautiful scarf to top it all off with. I too have a similar bag and I pulled it out of the cupboard to use - will do soon. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that the lady recognised you from looking like your mother. And what a beautiful lady to look like! x
