I picked this set of 1950's Wade ceramic plant pots up at the flea market today for a bargainous 50p. The fashions of the decade don't suit my shape but I do love a bit of fabulous Fifties home decor. Here's some of the things I've got around the house.
Flamenco dancer occasional table (£2 car boot sale)
Some of my Trechikoff and Lynch collection in the lounge.
The wall of misery on the stairs
My plaster lamp
Sputnik heater (20p from a jumble sale)
Late 1950's Danish pendant light
Terence Conran for Midwinter ceramics Saladware platter (inherited), Midwinter pin tray (5p Car Boot Sale), Plantware veg dish (£3 Charity auction)
Pyrex glass mixer - I had one of these years ago and broke it. I found this boxed replacement at a car boot sale last year for 50p
African head carved bookends (a charity shop buy years ago)
One of two boxed sets of gaudy rose placemats
Dorset Rex brass handbag with pearl embellishment and lucite handle (car boot sale)
Peggy Nisbet 1950's Girl About Town doll
I bought her from a jumble sale over 30 years ago, I was rummaging for vintage even as a teenager.
Kitsch musical box from a jumble sale, plays Singing In The Rain and the record deck actually revolves.
"Stained Glass" screen print by Francis Price. This was £1 from a charity shop, it's huge.
Bosson's plaster poodle heads were £1 the pair from a car boot sale.
More 1950's ladies in the lounge.
Plastic Bathing Beauty cocktail markers
One of the few 1950's frocks I own. This was from a jumble sale.
Talking of jumble sales I get to go to the jumble sale preview tomorrow morning, that means I get first pick before the general public get there. How cool's that?

Oh Vix, I am so envious of all of these finds! The Girl about Town figure is so beautiful and that fifties dress on you is divine! x
ReplyDeleteHow do you do that? :) You even get in before everyone else1 You're like super VIP of charity shops and jumble sales! You're amazing!
ReplyDeleteOk, that 50s dolls got MASSIVE boobs!hahah! I like you in the 50s outfit, but I do think it's because your styling is brill! I think long dresses suit you more than short full skirt ones like from 50s:)
OMG that Girl about Town doll has my booboids!
ReplyDeleteI love all these goodies! Most especially the flamenco table!!! EEEK!
Such a magnificent collection! Jealous!!!
Love Helga! xxxXXXxxx
Dear Vix,
ReplyDeleteYou've got so many fabulous things in your house.
I love 50s decor too and as you know I have a weakness for flouncy 50s frocks.
I managed to bag another 'Blanes' one on eBay the other week...I'll blog it when I find the time ;)
That table is so AWESOME & for £2 too...what a complete steal!
I hope you have much luck at the jumble tomorrow & find some brilliant stuff.
Take care luv,
Jem
...xXx
That 50s frock fits you like a glove...Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your treasure house. You should sell tickets hehehhe.
Fantastic, as ever...
Aren´t you lucky, first pick of the jumble, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Soooooooooooooo glad for you, never mind the rain...
Besos.

You look gorgeous in that 50s frock. Loving the horse head lamp and the beeeoootiful place mats best of all. A jumble sale preview???? I'm hugely envious.
ReplyDeleteWhere do I start? Wow.
ReplyDelete1 Harry lives. Hurrah!
2 Do you want that purple nail varnish (new one) I had on a few days ago? I have a spare and also the pinky glitter - also new. Plus 2 more of the same purple that you could keep or give away to fellow purplaholics.
Email me on nuttyteacher@gmail.com and I'll send 'em over.
Dearest Vix, where do I start? I love the plaster lady lamp, the doll is amazing, the poodles, I actually like the horses head lamp and the wall of misery never fails to make me smile. Can't wait to see what you get at the jumble tomorrow. You're like a local celebrity or something! Love C xx
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say 50s don't suit you, Vix. It's just not the look I normally associate with you, but hey, one elegant lady. Love your whole 50s collection! And, all the best for tomorrow! xxx
ReplyDeleteBlimey Vix what a booty!! :) Some gorgeous pieces, I love the cocktail ladies. And your outfit today really is beautiful. I'd love to style your hair for a party in whichever era you decided to be. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Tesco comment you left on my blog, unfair on the little original fish in an already overcrowded pond.
xxx
My goodness we had that very same flamenco table when I was a kid, I sat on it when I was about 7 and broke the glass, mum was furious.
ReplyDeleteYour 50s frock is lovely, of course it suits you .
Hi my dear-VIP Vix for the jumbles-lucky you to have them to go to regularly, ones in my area are about 2 a year, if that!! Love all your 50s pieces and the porcelain things are really fabulous bargains too! Good luck tomorrow, but saying that, with your stylish eye, you don't need it, lol!! xxx
ReplyDeleteI think you look lovely in the 50's frock - really curious about how much you bought the lucite handled brass bag on your wall - I've seen those go on ebay for serious money - maybe you're the seller haha!
ReplyDeleteYou're such a bargain magnet Vix, I mean who else could pick up a set of Wade plant pots for 50 bloomin' pence! Hope you score well at the jumble preview tomorrow - I'm sure you won't let us down! xxx
ReplyDeleteYou look fab in your 50's frock. I've been trying to find reasonable price Lynches somewhere but no such luck yet - even good replica posters whic I could put on frames. Jus found 2 in ebay and I want Tina!
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to do some sort of trolley dash around your house - I'd have that table and the little pin dish for starters!
ReplyDelete(Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the doll's massive boobs! Feeling a bit inadequate here!)
LOVE the flamenco table! The wall of misery appeals to me but husband can't 'do' creepy-cute at all (watched too many scary movies as a kid) so we wil never have anything like that! He does do ladies with their boobs semi exposed, so there is some remit for 50s 'art' in out home!
ReplyDeleteWe currently have some framed covers of pulp novels from the 50s.
Your finds always make me feel frivolous with my money! You are rocking the 50s
ReplyDeleteFlamenco dancer table and head bookends are amazing! And I will never get bored of the wall of misery <3<3
ReplyDeleteAh, I love 50's style dresses because they suit me best (bodycon?! never heard of it before..) I hate the way the highstreet don't sell enough 50's style dresses and I can never find any secondhand because they are all nearly size 18+!
The 50s is my favourite era in homeware and fashion! I love everything on this post, but your dress and jewellery box in particular x
ReplyDeleteLove all your 50's treasures Vix! Hope you find some fantastic bargains tomorrow xxx
ReplyDeleteYou always get such bargains! Do the people who live near you not realise what they're selling or how cheap they're selling it for, or are you just a master haggler?! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the midwinter crockery and those rose placemats, lush! xx
Wow Vix ...as a bit of a doll nerd I know that your Peggy Nisbet girl is a bit of a rarity. She's just gorgeous.Lovely, lovely finds and I must say you look stunning in Fifties.xxxx
ReplyDeleteThose planters are adorable!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Pyrex mixer is awesome and the fact you still have the box. Very cool.
Super cool! I love your lamp. We have a number of the gaudy rose coasters and placemats too but I kinda like them xx
ReplyDeleteEvery single thing is fabulous - and I really like the horse head lamp!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the fifties dress on you.
xxxx Comtesse xxxx
Such an unforgettable era in fashion! and your dress is fantastic!

Miss Neira
You are the jumble queen, it's only right you get in first before the plebs get there! Happy hunting tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteKandi x
The flamenco table is really unique. I like how you combined inky-blue with light/teal blue in ur outfit. Have fun tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, can't wear the clothes but I love the homewares!! Fabulous stuff xx
ReplyDeleteahh, I love everything! Your house is amazing, you have so much beautiful treasure. I find your 'wall of misery' quite cheerful, I love things like that! x
ReplyDeleteWow, some seriously cool items you have there. Love me a tretchikoff & a lynch or two too! I'm sure the record player is a Sindy item, think I've seen it in a collectibles book, will have a check.
ReplyDeleteExcellent collection! We live in a 1950s mansion block, so I'm fond of fifties homewares. Love the Midwinter plates and the the Danish lampshade.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE you in that frock and think you look absolutely knock out gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteFaves are: the flamenco table, all of the ladies and the miserable children, the horse lamp, the music box and the poodles - ALL TREASURES WOULD BE MOST WELCOME IN MY HOME!
Sarah xxx

I want it all..you brujia..I was going to ask you what 50's decor you had and if you would dress 50's for me..I want that flamenco table.. and your dress..so precious amor.
ReplyDeleteHow I'd love to explore your house! So many treasures...
ReplyDeleteI quite like the horse-head lamp! I know you dislike babies, but my little nephew has just started to learn how to make animal noises, and his version of 'neigh' is a little high pitched, desending 'neeeee'!! It's adorable!
Very envious of your wall of misery!
Xox
Such cute picks! My personal favorite is the brass handbag. Wow you score some really amazing deals at yard sales and what-not! The '50s dress is utterly glam. Good luck at the jumble sale tomorrow :) http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteSo many fabulous treasures around the Vix household. I especially love the placemats! As I've said before you clearly know the right people. Can't wait to see what you get at the jumble. x
ReplyDeleteYou own the COOLEST fifties decor! I love it! And that outfit is lovely. I have a feeling no matter what decade you're placed in, you're always the most fabulous. ;)

Gosh, I would LOVE to own everything you just posted here. The ceramic potst and plates, doll and lovely pictures... just great collection!
ReplyDeleteAnd you look stunning! It's light and definitely gives movement and wonderfully subtly shimmery. GORGEOUS.
I love cake,
Berlin
You have some fabulous 50s stuff! i love that table and the saladware. So cheerful! I hope you got some fabulous stuff at the Jumble sale.
ReplyDeletewe dom't even seem to have jumble sales listed around here :(
ReplyDeletei love that table and the cocktail markers - super 50s kitsch :)
I've never seen anything like the Girl about Town doll before, she's great. I love how she's balancing all her baggage.
ReplyDeleteYour wall of misery always makes me laugh.
I'll just call on you if we get low on stock in the shop, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI think I am just about in awe of all of these treats. The Girl About Town doll is fabulous, I love her little outfit and she's so busty too far more than any other doll I know, what a wonderful keepsake.
ReplyDeleteThe placemats and poodle heads remain favourites of mine. You have by far some fabulous 50's homeware Vix xxx
Lucky you, have fun at the jumble sale preview! I hope you can buy lots of nice things :). That dress is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI love the African bookends.. I love things like that we used to have some when I was little xx
ReplyDeleteThat 50s dress is SO beautiful on you. Love the hat and gloves pairing.
ReplyDeleteAnd how awesome to get a preview. I'd be so honoured!
x
Ps. so strange, as i've been searching for wade mainly for the little beehive style cups my nan used to give us tea in as kids, but i can't see any. i thought they'd be more popular
That mint dress is gorgeous Vix! And it really suits you, but I can see it is completely not your style. You are much too much of a beautiful flower child to wear something so buttoned up. My fave find (apart from the lady lamp, which you know I love) is the midwinter tureen. And the fabby cocktail stirrers. xx
ReplyDeleteWowee! My favourite pieces without a doubt have to be that flamenco table, the kitsch musical box and the doll! You seriously have an eye for pretty amazing things.
ReplyDeleteSomeone should make a television series following you on your boot sale/charity/jumble sale adventures. I'd be glued! xxx
P.s you look lovely in that dress! :) xxx
I always enjoy peeks at your decorating. I'd use those gaudy rose placemats in a heartbeat to add some color and kapow to my reserved dining room. And if I weren't so fond of you, Vix, I'd be planning how to pilfer the flamenco table for Veshoevius. Perhaps some day you can have cocktails together on it instead.
ReplyDeleteMethinks you look great in the frock! And the flamenco table is quite a find.
ReplyDeleteOh Vix - what amazing things you have! This looks to me like more than just "a BIT of Fifties home decor." My favorites...the flamenco table, the horse head lamp that everyone hates, the doll and the music box!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous 50's dress, but I have to admit that I did a double-take when I saw the photo. You are sooo 1968/72 in my mind... But it's probably good to shake things up a bit every so often. You look fabulous either way. :)
oooh love that Mammoth Book and those Raybans and I had that bag...what joy!!
ReplyDeleteIt's all amazing! Wauw!

Love, love, love your 50s stuff, especially the prints! I have many the same as you, although our Soulet and other Big Eyes are lurking under the bed until we find a wall for them! Tina, Miss Wong and the girls get pride of place though :) Emma
