A Case Of Mistaken Identity

I had an appointment earlier today with a GP I hadn't met before. You look amazing, the doctor said, what on earth do you do for a living? What do you think, Doctor? I challenged her. She guessed at either a clairvoyant or a medium.

I wonder what gave her that idea? It must have been my aura, I wasn't dressed like this.
Black sheer dress by Ghost (Courtesy of Christina) and my new pendant (Dear Ivy) worn with gothic lace-up boots, velvet opera gloves, vintage beaded skull cap and a snake armlet (All vintage finds)
I'm always being wrongly labelled, Indian, Pakistani, Italian, Israeli, Romanian or Spanish are my most oft-assumed nationalities and if I'm not being taken for a lap dancer then it's a being mistaken for a lady of the world's oldest profession. Charming, perhaps I should reconsider those killer heels and fake fur coats but there again, perhaps not.

Ghost dress (darling Christina) worn with the usual silver jewellery (India)
Weird assumptions aside, I've been thoroughly spoilt again. The fabulous Ivy Black sent me a surprise parcel ...

....containing this stunning vintage gilt pendant, isn't it beautiful?

Antik Batik embellished silk kaftan (courtesy of darling Christina) worn with a vintage turban and TopShop wedges
...And Christina sent me all the dresses I'm wearing plus a rather fabulous nightgown and the Keith Richards book which I've wanted since it came out. After chatting to her on the phone earlier I laughed so much I cried my eyeliner off.

I never wear red, I think I'm a convert

I do love my blogging friends!

  1. Christina is so amazingly generous - she's sent you some divine dresses! Love you in that red one, you should definitely wear red more often.

I don't think anyone's ever compared me to anything quite so exotic! Or to anything interesting really. I must just be a plain Jane!

I don't think clairvoyant is a bad shout. Burlesque artiste? And you KNOW that's a compliment. Something off the wall. There's no way anyone is going to peg you as anything boring.

  8. What beautiful, beautiful dresses. What a wonderful friend.

I often find it sad we define people by what they do for a living, most people are far more interesting than their jobs. You look fabulous always Vix and never let anyone ever tell you otherwise xx

  9. So much fabulousness!! My God you look amazing in all of these dresses and you could so pass for a Spanish flamenco dancer in the red frilly one! Hand on heart! I'm a bit of a genetic mish mash myself and so am mistaken for every nationality in the book. Loved this post.

  13. Fabulous dresses - I love Ghost. I really regret selling a pale blue one that I had.
Red is a great colour on you - wear it more!

  14. You look beautiful in all of those amazing dresses and I have to agree with the other commenters - you look FABULOUS in red and I'm really surprised that you don't wear it. I struggle to wear any other colour as I am so DRAWN to red that even when I want to wear annother colour I often struggle NOT to wear red!

I especially love your Antik Batik dress - that is such a stunning print.

    You are beautiful, as always.

  16. I love the red dress and have added Christina to my daily reads. DH and I purchased a new vehicle last year. The salesperson looked at our hands and pretty accurately guessed what we each did for a living although we were dressed weekend casual. Creeps me out when people try to size one up based on external details.

  28. It's your ethereal qualities Vix! I think you have a Romany Gypsy vibe about you... only when you wear long, floaty things though. In your denim shorts, knee high boots and pussybow blouses you're definitely more 60s!

    Love the headpiece. x

  29. I think it's awesome you are so often mistaken for another ethnicity. It just shows how glamorous and mysterious you are! ;)

I love all these outfits. Sigh.

PS. I never paid much attention to Cillian Murphy until Pluto. Now that I know what an amazing actor he is, I want to see all his films. Thanks for the recommendation. xoxo

I love the cap and maxi, very mystical and magical!

  35. Wow, Christina is really clever isn't she - you look divine in every one of them. I am so surprised you don't usually wear red, it suits you so well and is vibrant just like you. Speaking of psychic bloggers, I got your Indian socks in the post today - thank you so much, I LOVE them. I was wearing them around the house earlier but don't want to wear them through so am going to use them as my new bed socks instead. I actually just wore holes through mine so it is perfect timing! Thank you so so much, you are a dear xx

  37. You arise beauteous in the horizon of the heavens
Oh living Aten who creates life.
When you shine forth in the Eastern horizon you fill every land with your beauty.
You are so beautiful: you are great; gleaming and high over every land.
    Your rays embrace the lands and all you have created;
You are Re and reach out to all your creations, and hold them for your beloved Son.
    You are afar, but your rays touch the earth;
Men see you, but know not your ways.

    Thanks...sweet Lady!

Never mind what 'people' think you look like, as long as your happy with your clothes that's all that matters is that you're happy. Fashion should be fun after all :)

  43. Red looks fabulous on you! My husband always gets mistaken as a native of whatever latin country we visit, me on the other hand, never get mistaken as anything other than British, apart from in New York, people seem to think I'm a native - until they really hear me speak!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love the dresses, aren't you lucky ! :)
And I can't say I've ever been mistaken for anything exciting, perhaps I'm super boring! xx

  45. The red dress is stunning on you. I would take it as a compliment all these different identities, a life full of dressing up is far more fabulous than a life full of black trousers and dull blouses xxx

    ReplyDelete
  46. That is quite an array of assumptions people make! And a lap dancer, outrageous!
My friend always gets asked if she's from Hawaii. She's Thai.

What fabulous spoils from Christina. The red dress is utterly fabulous on you!

  56. Wowzers you are rocking some fabulous frocks there! A medium huh quite an odd thing to come out with as a haphazard guess. I often think of what people's perceptions of me are based on my appearance. I suspect they think me abit odd..I can't think of anyone I know who even wears lipstick, let alone bright red never to be missed lipstick! x

  57. I love the glamour in your look. . you do have an international look, and I used to think you were a clairvoyant at first too!

Your photo reminds me to go back to some shop to get a turban. I love how you rock it x

  61. I'd send you something, too - if I had anything that was your style.... Alas, I'm rather plain. Your exotic (and very natural) appearance leads to all SORTS of speculation, I see :)

The red dress is fabulous. You look great in the color, but the style and shape of the dress is simply stunning - and on you, gorgeous!

Huh??? Lap dancer?? and a hoo... the hell thinks that???? HOW??? The clairvoyant thing, hmm, yes, okay but that's a movie stereotype... although you do remind me of Solitaire in the Bond movie... to me you're Vix Extraordinaire.
