Do Or DIY

Next year's Glastonbury Festival tickets went on sale this morning so despite a typically late, alcohol-sodden Saturday night I had to be up ridiculously early to get my hands on ours. The website crashed, the phoneline was engaged and I was near breaking point by the time I finally managed to snag some.

Too stressed to go back to bed I got busy with the paint brush and spent a constructive day revamping some recently acquired furniture. I'm using Crown's Fairy Dust, a really pale peppermint pink which should compliment the guest bedroom wallpaper once we've finished decorating it.

I won the 1950's glass-fronted cabinet from eBay last week for £4.99. I'm going to paper the back with one of my huge stash of vintage rolls of wallpaper and use it to store my hats.

We hauled the 1950's kidney-shaped vanity stool out of a skip on the way back home from the pub last night. I'm going to reupholster it with one of the vintage curtains I bought from Thursday's jumble sale.

The top curtain is looking like a favourite, it's 1950's sateen with a white leaf print on a pale pink background.

Sporting a pair of jumble sale leggings, a tee shirt and flip flops picked up from a street market in Pondicherry and my trusty vintage denim waistcoat. I handmade the felt Chrysanthemum clip.
Have you had a constructive day and anyone else doing Glasto next year?

  1. I couldn't believe the tickets sold out same day when I read it on the website. Amazing.
Managed to get the dogs out for a walk and that's about it. Maybe in the next lifetime I'll be creative.....or maybe a frog.

  6. Excellent news about the Glasto tickets! Can't wait to see some pics of the spare room when it's all completed. All the bits and bobs you've found for it look amazing.

I've been tidying and pom-pom-ing. I think I'm mildly obsessed with making these necklaces. I'm going to attempt a headpiece next, eek!

  7. I love your casual look today, you look beautiful, the hair is fabulous!

I am currently making a pin cushion from a vintage lace doily and the remnants of some brown corduroy (salvaged from a damaged skirt).

Kudos for the drunken skip diving!

  15. You should have your own TV show on how to look fabulous while doing a little DIY. I am too scared to dress nicely with a paint brush in my hand!

I guess the pint(s) you had at the pub didn't diminish your eagle eye from spying that great find in the dumpster!

Won't be doing much today as it's overcast, cool (finally) and lazy. Perhaps a little house cleaning (boring) but definitely some reading and TV watching. Congrats on scoring some tickets to Glastonbury!

I've shamelessly 'stolen' your post title. I couldn't think of anything else once I realised what had popped into my head! I do apologise and I hope I'm forgiven.

  17. I'm glad you got some tickets, i've told Phil when the baby is bigger we're going to take him. I think it'd be a brilliant thing to take him too.
My day has not been constructive at all, getting drenched, buying junk food and eating it! x

  18. You clever thing! One of my favourite things to do is makeover old furniture.

Thank you for your comment lovely. I was thinking that too, that some sellers might make it difficuly but I think I would lay down ground rules and get them to agree to certain things :) Here's hoping anyway! x

  25. That cabinet will look great with your hats in it, I'm so impressed at how glam you look while painting, I always look like a total mess if I'm doing anything like that, and I always seem to get as much paint on me as the thing I'm painting! Glad you got your tickets to Glasto. xxx

  26. Thanks Vicky,! sorry i had to use caps ! lol, i wanted you to see and respond to my message. I love karma as well, i was bought the karma perfume but it was too strong for me, and 1 squirt lasted ages which is great but after a while it gave me a headache, so i sold it on ebay. I now have a solid karma and karma soap which are both as lovely as the perfume but not strong enough to play with my head.

Can you pretty please do a perfume post? if you have your top 5 perfumes please?? Im a perfume freak !! so would love to know yours.

Incase you were interested, my 5 fav perfumes in no particular order are:

    1) John Galliano (purple bottle) smells just divine.
    2) Giorgio Armani code women. Exotic and mysterious.
    3) Jean paul gaultier 2
    4) YSL Elle
    5) Chloe- Delicious but pricey!

Thankyou, luvin your blog posts as usual :)xx

  35. Hello :)

Have you ever tried a cream called 'Tibet'? its from pakistan and india and smells absolutely lovely comes in a small glass jar and smells like a mix of jasmine and amber. It's a cream, (meant to be used on the face according to the box) but can be used (rubbed in) on the wrists, neck, as a perfume-sort of like the solid fragrance.
I wouldn't recommend it as a face cream but like i said as a perfume its fantastic, have a look at it if you happen to come across it, i thought as you always travel to India you my have seen this, its dirt cheap aswell. =)

  36. Dear Vix, well done for persevering on the Glasto tickets.

Is there no end to your creativity? I'm very impressed and love to see a bit of recycling. You don't even miss something on the way back from the pub. I love it. Your guest bedroom will look wonderful. Please blog a picture when you've finished it. Hope you're having a great evening xx

  37. It's so frustrating and stressfull when you can't get tickets isn't it? but very rewarding when you do eventually get them. Good luck with the painting, please show us the final product when your done. x

  39. I'm worried that you'll get some paint on that denim waistcoat!

What great finds. I have a stash of vintage wallpaper & old curtains. Have used them as you intend to here... I just lined some shelves in an upright metal cabinet my husband repaired with some of the vintage wallpaper.

AND you're SO right about people overlooking some great vintage stuff (previous post). I hope I would have spied that great golden barrel chair! I wonder WHAT I may have overlooked???? You make it look so easy.

  40. Dear Vix,
Och, I knew there was something else I should have done today :(
I'll just have to wait & see if I can bag some Glasto tickets off eBay.
Your spare room is going to look uber lovely.
    I adore that gorgeous 50s cabinet...£4.99, unbelievable!
Old furniture kicks ass & is far superior (in my opinion) to any flat pack tat IKEA et. al. produces.
Curb side- & skip finds are the bees-knees & there is a great sense of achievement breathing life in to something that someone else has discarded.
I bought a 60s brass fireside coal box at the car boot sale today that I’m going to line with some stupendous fabric & keep little treasures in.
You can almost get these for free from some sellers on eBay if you have the means to go & pick them up; I had a notion that they might make rather quirky but fun Christmas pressie hampers or even a treasure chest for a child’s bedroom once the inside has been rejazzed.
Seriously Vix, for someone who has just had a late night…you look astonishingly bright & radiating of youthful loveliness…. HOW DO YOU DO IT?!
I don’t even partake in the draught nectar anymore but I still manage to wake up looking like a wrung out dishrag, never mind ;)
    Lot’s of love,
    Jem
    …xXx

I've noticed that my recent posts aren't showing up on your list. The last one you have is last week for some reason, but I've posted since then and haven't gone for a long lie down in a darkened room!

  53. Wow you just dont stop do you !!
I love doing up old furniture its so satisfying.
As for Glasto it was always the best fun being lashed over the corrugated fence for a fiver from a scouser!! Those where the days.
Though i did land in human shit and buggerd my ankle and hobbled about for the entire weekend.
You would be great doing the diy section in the oxfam tent! I did it last year (Loved it) plus the amount of beauties you unearth. As they save all there best stuff for Glasto.
Keep up the good work lady

  56. You're having fun there! I spent my Sunday photographing shoes for your tag challenge! I went to Glastonbury once and as a performer would you believe - but that was the festival that turned me into a festival pansy. I was so traumatised by the mud and toilets that I doubt I could go again!
