Aren't some of our fellow humans lovely?
I regularly visit and post on the popular website, Money Saving Expert, a mine of information on everything money-saving under the sun. It's full of friendly and knowledgable people who can advise or just chat if you've got time to kill.
The other day a lady named Kassi messaged me through the site. We'd never met but she was a regular visitor to my blog largely through a mutual love of VW Campers. When she'd last visited her Mum in Canada she'd been given a dress from her 1970's hippy past. Kassi hadn't worn the dress as much as she'd hoped and rather than consign it to her daughter's dressing-up box she offered to send it my way.
I'm so glad she did, the frock arrived on Saturday morning and isn't it a beauty?
..... the label alone is a joy to behold.
Kassi's mum, Brenda sounds a fantastic person, whilst pregnant with her she attempted to hitch-hike to Woodstock but severe morning sickness made her turn back. Apparently she's rather like Eddy from Ab Fab.
I'm wearing a copper and turquoise pendant and matching wrist cuff an old boyfriend of my Mum's brought back from Canada in the early 1960's.
Thanks so much, Kassi! I'm on the lookout for something lovely to repay your generosity.

Love the belt with the dress, very kind of Kassi.
ReplyDeleteThat pendant is AMAZING!!!
xxx
Adorable! Unfortunately, the answer to your question is not recently; any random acts of kindness would be greatly appreciated!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is gorgeous!! I love Maxi's!! I inherited a 1972 one from my great aunt, it's floral with bat-wing sleeves (despite how it sounds it's actually lovely, ha!) I've never had an opportunity to wear it, but it'll hang up on my mannequin until the right occation comes along :-)
ReplyDeleteYou've got such a lovely blog! Thanks for the follow :-) Laura xx
tres romantique !
ReplyDeletebonne semaine ;O)
Pretty. Pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat is one very generous act and you do the dress justice. Thinking about it, you remind me of one of the models in those Silvikrin shampoo tv adverts from the 70s, floating through a meadow on the way to a festival!
ReplyDeleteYES. FROM YOU! I had such a crappy day in school that day and YOU cheered me up so much!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is just beautiful and the necklace is so gorgeous <3<3
Hi Vix, you are channeling the 70s again. You look sweet and lovely in your maxi but I am in awe of your mother's hip jewelry! Very groovy.
ReplyDeleteDon't you love it when you can get back stories of things you collect? I especially like the Woodstock story! Kassi is awesome to send you the dress.

Such a kind gesture. There are some very kind people out there. The dress really suits you.

What a generous lady - lucky you! xxxx
ReplyDeleteI don't usually get random acts of kindness coming my way. I do however give alot to friends and family (cousins) so i don't expect too much anyway. Maybe its a trait from my starsign, capricorn. I give alot but don't receive nearly anything or as much in return, its not me complaining-just that i'm quite a giving person, incidently one of my most hated traits in anyway is selfishness. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious frock and how wonderful of Kassi to send it your way. Her mum sounds a bit like my auntie Diane - she was merrily dancing around at Glastonbury one year whilst 9 months pregnant, went into labour and my cousin arrived shortly afterwards in a hospital in Bath.
ReplyDeleteRandom acts of kindness? I've been very lucky when it comes to surprise parcels through the post recently ;-)
Dear Vix,
ReplyDeleteThe dress is adorable, makes me think of the little house on the prairie.
Random acts of kindness in the past few days...
My colleague at work gave me a vintage 80s Max Mara linen blazer, an American tourist tipped me £5 & I got a vintage 50s lace bralet for free when I bought another one for 30p at yesterday's car boot sale cause the woman deemed it too grubby to sell, however a quick wash & it came out splendidly.
I guess I've been quite lucky of late, eh :)
Anyhow there's more goodies coming your way as I popped a parcel in the post today; I hope you will like what’s inside.
Lot's of love,
Jem
...xXx
Lovely gesture, and you look good in that dress! I come across kind gestures daily. Nothing generous lately but even a kind word now and then ... when you least expect it ... people checking up on you *big.smile* while you are away ...all go down as kind.thoughtful.gestures in my book.
ReplyDeleteWow! love, love, love the vintage frock(posing by the tree there you look as if you're from a different era and not part of the 'mad' modern 21st Century technological age that were currently in(refreshingly-lovely, you've made my day, Petal:) The torquoise pendent gifted by your ma is exquisite:)
ReplyDeleteRandom acts of kindness? a random comment on my blog and a conversation with a stranger is the best I come up with!
You could wear this at Wayne Hemmingway's Vintage event next summer Vix?!

ReplyDeleteFirst off, you are lovely. You look very beautiful and delightful in this dress.
ReplyDeleteas for kindess: how about three parcels of clothes, books, chanel sunnies, and Tiffany's from an internet friend I have never met in person? People ARE nice, aren't they?
Pretty dress, you look lovely in it. There are some top people out there, aren't there? We had an act of random kindess over the weekend at Beaulieu when we were chating to stallholders and they gave us a cuppa. I must have looked like I needed one!

What an absolute gem of a dress - I have a thing for vintage labels and that Unicorn one is scrummy! Don't take away a thing - the necklace *swoon*, the belt, bangles! What an absolutely lovely lady to give you that dress - it deserves to be worn by a gorgeously wild thing like you Vix! xo
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so lovely - what a lovely thing to do as it looks perfect on you, Vix!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is SO sweet! I love the blog world, so, so sweet! It looks gorgeous on you, fits perfectly! Ah, yes, AbFab, one of my all-time favorite shows! XX!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress, what a wonderful gift and beautiful pendant. Have a great day xxx
ReplyDeleteDear Vix, the dress looks really pretty on you. What a kind gift. I wish I'd known you a few months back. I gave away a few pieces you'd like, although I'm sure there will be more and I know your size.
ReplyDeleteI think I could do with the money saver website. My friends joke that I "could spend money in an empty room!" I've always been terrible with money but I fling around what I do have and it always seems to come back when I need it.
I love anything to do with Unicorns too xx
What a lovely story and that is a very pretty dress. What a lovely soul to think of you and send that to you. It must the universe sending you back what you've done in supporting charities around the UK! Great vintage jewellery as always.
ReplyDeleteI believe random acts of kindness start a chain and your post has made me feel warm and fuzzy that there still exist people who believe in doing them. Great reminder for me to do some myself!
Wow- what a lovely gift! You look great. I love the teal necklace. This is very gypsy-esque in my opinion...and you pull it off quite well!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet of Kassi!! U look great on that dress and the belt is a nice touch since it emphasizes ur narrow waist and adds definition..

ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I bet you'll value this so much more because it was such a unique gift.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the best act of kindness I've had recently it when my brother lends me money. I always repay him as soon as I get paid, but he really helps when I just need a few bob to tide me over!
Oh, and another one! The lovely Jazzabelle listened to me rant on about m problems this week, it so nice to just vent to someone!

That is so lovely and kind of her. Your very lucky. xxx
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful Vix. This dress was meant to be worn by you and I think the lovely and kind Kassi was following the messages of destiny!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're a lovely and kind person yourself so people want to do lovely things for you.
hmm... random acts of kindness is something that must be done every day... I try to... and I do get lucky on the receiving end too! eg. On Sunday at local markets I frequent, sellers for some reason were practically throwing their things at me!!
Apparently at whatever stall I would stop at and rummage through, more people would come to...so twas karmic... the sellers sold more! and although i was happy to buy from them, which I did, 3 stall holders gave me some incredible things for free!! Just because they "couldn't see any one else in it and because people followed you and"!!! I was sooo thrilled.
What a truly wonderful gift. The dress is perfect and is so very you. I think it's wonderful when people have the kindness to think of someone else xx
ReplyDeleteLove random acts of kindness! Is reassuring to know there are still lovely people out there in the big bad world!
