Fur and Feathers

I'm feeling a bit feather-brained today, must be hormonal. My eyeliner won't stay put, my lipstick's the wrong shade, my hair's developed a strange kink and I've had to change my top three times this morning as nothing feels or looks right and to top it all my media player's packed up and I've got no sounds....grrr.

When I dropped a couple of bags of donations off at the Salvation Army yesterday the lady behind the counter produced this 1950's pale blue feathered headpiece she'd saved for me. It's rather sweet and after a scan of the internet the only similar vintage piece I can find is £145 (mine was 50p).

After reading Pearl and Christina's blog posts about the new season furry boots I dug out Mum's original Yeti boots she bought in the 1970's from Blacks' in Kendal. How my classmates and I envied those boots! Jon was less than impressed and mentioned the Spice Girls which put me right off.

At least the cats like them.

1970's spotty top (Salvation Army), Vintage dress pants from a charity shop revamped into shorts (By me), Nordiska belt (Car boot sale), Patent wedges (TopShop)
I'm off to scoff my body weight in sweets, hopefully my mood will improve.

  1. We all have days like this...I think I got out the wrong side of bed this morning as I have been unreasonably grumpy all day! x

  3. Now I know what you do with some of your stuff. You pass it on! Do you keep much or do you wear things only a couple of times and recycle most of it? Or do you find it hard to let things go?

  4. Boo! don't be down, any consolation you don't look like you are having one of those days. Everything looks pretty fab!

I have some yeti style boots I love to wear in winter.

  5. Well you might feel iffy but you look just as fab as always. I see no evidence of kinky hair, wonky eyeliner or weird lippy!

  6. As you know I've had a similar day. Grumpy or not , you still look the business...I on the other hand look like a mad person!

  7. I remember longing for a pair yeti style boots a few years back, Roxy brought out the most wonderful grey fur ones, I was so tempted and still am by them. However much they seem to get ridiculed. How great you have the authentic 70s ones.

The headpiece is so unusual and can imagine such a rare find, it always amazes me how such a delicate thing having survived such a long time, should it now be in the rightful hands of a wonderful owner xx

  8. Dear Vix,
I hope you'll manage to dropkick them beastly hormones to the curb soon my dear!
For me hormones rewrite that “Hell hath no fury” quote.
Sometimes when I am hormonal it’s like I’m possessed by irascible demons & I can get bizarrely irritated over the most ridiculous things, like if I’m putting the washing in the machine and a pair of pants or a escapee sock falls out, I start kicking the machine with venomous fury & unrestrained rage…and I’m normally such a non-violent femme ;)
I have a special section in my wardrobe for what I call “fat-days”; filled with only sure-fire fit clobber for those deplorable days of the month when bloatedness and irritation taints the usual merry mood.
Even if you may feel a bit out of sorts you certainly don’t look it!
As regards to furry boots, I personally love then & a few year back when they were back in fashion I DIYed a pair for myself using an old pair of boots & some fun fur from the haberdashery.
I prefer the vintage 70s Yeti ones though & I also rather like retro Moonboots.
    Take care love,
    Jem

  10. I actually own a pair of yeti boots! The only occasion I've ever succeeded in wearing them is at a caveman party!

Yay! What a saving! Lovely colour :)

  11. Tell you what, I wish I looked like that when I was hormonal - tracksuit bottoms and hooded tops are normally the order of the day!

I love the head piece it looks so pretty and dainty, your Salvo ladies are wonderful to you.

Regarding the Lush Les Cacas, the photos on my post are quite old now, I've been using Caca Rouge because I want to give my dark hair a red shine and tint and it's the first thing I've found that takes to it, However if you fear the ginger side, they also do a Caca Noir, which might be the one for you

  21. Hi Vix, lots to like about your look despite being an off day for you. I love the belt and feathered headpiece especially. Those yeti boots, not sure I've seen anything like that before. Don't get those near my cat, I won't know where one begins and the other ends!

Spice Girls! Mel B has a new reality show, just premierd the other nite. She's become a bit popular since Dancing With the Stars a few seasons ago.

  38. Aw, but you look lovely, Vix! You wouldn't know you worked so hard at getting that outfit and look right, it seems so effortless!

And boy, do I know about maddening hair kinks. Ever since I self-cut my hair a few weeks ago, I wake up with a kink every morning. Curls are now my way to go to look halfway human. :-)

  39. There's something in the air Vix... it is weird... I am all the way across the world from you and I can tell you that everyone I know is feeling like they're swimming in molasses.

..at the risk at sounding like a pompous ass... I'm, not being affected only because I felt the warning signs and really 'pushed' myself in yoga to focus and ...oh boy this will sound crazy!... grow the glow within me!!

Anyway... it will pass... all will be well again... apart from planetary alignments the other thing is... the collective despair that the world felt when the September 11 attacks occurred in the US... for the past 9 years I have felt a huge gloom cloud leading up to the first week of september...

....cripes! this is all too serious!! what is serious is how gorgeous you are! and Spice Girls be damned... those boots are damn fabulous (sorry Jon!)!!

  40. My gosh you are hard on yourself- you look great! Especially love the belt, and what on earth is a car boot sale?

  41. I hope the sugar worked! I think actually you look particularly good even though you don't feel it =) xx

  42. You are a dream in that top and the headband is beautiful! You are the only person I can think of that would have original yettie fur boots.
    How awesome !!!

  43. This is a very pretty outfit - love fur and feathers and that blue feather hairpiece is just lovely. The original Yeti boots! That is impressive - have you seen this season's Chanel adverts overflowing with fake yeti fur and brandishing similiar boots? Wave a couple of those under your man's nose - not that it's likely to help much but you can say that a big trendsetter like Karl Lagerfield is copying you!!

  44. Aw, hope you're feeling better now. Not a fan of these big furry boots I'm afraid. xx
