I tried something new today and met up with the lovely Louise from Princess Prudence Diaries at the Festival of Motoring in Coventry. It's the first time I've ever met another blogger and we got on famously, as did our men, Jon and Pete. They only live a 40 minute drive up the M6 in Coventry but with Jon and I's legendary inability to follow a map the journey took us 90 minutes instead.
We had a lovely few hours wandering around admiring the vintage motors, quaffing cider and having a giggle. Louise is every bit as down-to-earth and friendly as she comes across in her blog and so enviably tall and glamorous, too. Her cool husband was also a pleasure to meet.
Ebby, our 1970 VW Variant 411 LE, is our daily ride and I love to dress the part when we're out and about. Driving a vintage car generates lots of attention, requests for photos and the opportunity to meet lots of wonderful people. I'm always disapointed when fellow vintage car owners don't make an effort with their outfits so was delighted to find this pair dressed to the nines and having a ball.
Rather a cute little MG Midget, too.
Not feeling the liveliest of drivers after a skinful of real ale in Birmingham city centre last night.
We had a fabulous time.

Hi my dear-sounds like another fabulous vintage day out and I do love your gilet with the maxi dress, lovely pics indeed!! x
ReplyDeleteYou look fab and so does the car! Love your Knock on wood post too xx
ReplyDeleteAh what a fab way to spend a weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to meet you Vix, I can see many a drink being poured and the boys talking cars whilst we talk jewellery! :)
xxx
Ah this looks fab Vix! I like Kel would love to meet you :) Jealous you got to see lots of gorgeous vintage cars too! x
ReplyDeleteAww how nice you got to meet a fellow blogger. So glad you all got along so well. Looks & sounds like a wonderful day. Ebby looks great but is outshone by your fabulousness! The print on that maxi is nothing short of sensational! x
ReplyDeleteI don't wish to be too rude but a Midget for that rather substantial couple in orange and purple!? Great photos. Jon has good legs too, I notice. And Pete from a distance has something of the Arthur Daly about him. Quite intentional, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fantastic way to spend a weekend! Meeting blog friends must be so much fun, but very surreal too I imagine!
ReplyDeleteSteve liked the book, but he thinks Archer's rather predictable. You must read A Prisoner of Birth, though, I really really enjoyed it!
Totally cute dress! And how fun to meet up with another blogger! Something I have yet to do. And awesome ride!
ReplyDeleteps. just so you know, I am so serious about knocking on your door if I ever make it to England one day! So uh, expect me in six or so years ;-).
Hi Vix, I think you're right, owning a vintage car = an obligation to dress vintage! And you are looking stunning as always. I love the color combo of orange/brown/pink it is so 70s. I remember I bought my mom a set of food cannisters with those colors and a swirly flower design with bright yellow lids.
ReplyDeleteI love vintage cars. Old cars, I mean VINTAGE cars, were one of my dad's passions. We once had a gorgeous '69 Daimler Benz that was from England and had a right hand drive. People stared a lot which is why the lady who had it before us decided to sell. She hated the attention. My dream car is a '64 Ford Mustang.
How fun to meet up with a fellow blogger! Like everyone else, Vix, you simply must consider this an open invitation to visit when you are next out my way! San Diego is a fun city and you would enjoy it! One of my dream vacays is to visit Jane Austen country so perhaps we can meet up then...whenever that will be!
Looking forward to viewing Bride & Prejudice!
~Bonnie :)
Gillet! A new word for me! And without seeing it on you so fabulously, it would never have occurred to me to wear it as you did!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that comes close to equaling your unique (and wonderful) style is the adventure you pursue! Yet another interesting trek!
I like Pete's overcoat, by the way! Isn't that snazzy?
Isn't it great to meet 'virtual' friends in 'real life'? Looks like you had a wonderful time and this dress... love the print and colours. Just fabulous! xxx
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fab day. Think I'd be pretty nervous about meeting up with other bloggers IRL but guess that weird nervy bit only lasts a few minutes until the ice is broken. xx

Oh Vix ! I adore old cars to !
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous day !
(Your dress is just perfect !)
Looking fab as usual! The material on that maxi is just lush. Bibs x
ReplyDeleteps. thanks for stopping by my blog :)
Classic cars and vintage clothes, what a great combination! You all look really of the time and I agree that its great to dress in the same era as your ride. I used to love wearing my favourite maxi dress with seventies style make -up and hair, whilst driving about in my old 1972 Scimitar listening to Sabbath and Zep tapes pretending that I had travelled back in time and thinking how great it would have been if I could have picked up a hitch hiking Robert Plant!.... erm, perhaps that last part might have been the 'shrooms kicking in!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great time. Classic cars and Vintage clothes = Match made in heaven? :) Meeting bloggers does sound fun. So far I have only met one, cant wait to meet many more...
ReplyDeleteYay you had a wild time, and looked delicious to boot!Nice to see a nother couple making the effort.Louise and hubby looked might smoooooth!

You look fabulous. Love the vest :)
ReplyDeleteI an bound to get a vintage VW Bettle someday to skip around in. My 'dream' car :)
I am in awe of your fabulousness. Seriously. I just freaking adore you. :)
ReplyDeleteDear Vix, ditto Jennifer above. I am in awe of your style. I love the way you dress. I'm still thinking about the outfit when you met Jon - genius... Looks like you all had a brilliant day! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day out! And great photos (especially that couple that dressed up!). You look lovely in that dress and gilet (which looks nice and warm!).
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day. Love the dressed up couple too, looks like they're having a great time.
ReplyDeleteHow many fantastic dresses do you have? This one has such happy colours and nice print. And the knock on wood dress is my favourite so far.
What a great day! I love your dress. xxx
ReplyDeleteGillet!! Vix, you look fantastic! And I think meeting up bloggers is the funnest thing to do!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm glad you had such a fun time! We really must organise an MSE fashion meet up at some point soon. I've met a couple of online people/bloggers recently and I'm super shy in real life so if I can do it, anyone can!
ReplyDeleteYou're looking glorious as always in that amazing dress. Is it just me or do the big white flowers look a little bit like owl eyes?
Gorgeous outfit. I love a good old wander around a classic car show. We have one coming up on the 18th. Great to see meeting up with a fellow blogger went really well ... :0)
ReplyDeleteShirl x
Really like your gillet;it really is fab. Glad you had a super time at the show. Thanks so much for the comment you left for me, especially about my hair as it is so fine...am thinking about growing it a bit longer at the moment so that I can sweep it round on one shoulder but we shall see. It defintely looks better darker than blonde as it has a lot more definition so a big thanks to you for inspiring me to do that xxx
ReplyDeleteAw, lovely blog post Vix. It was great meeting up with you guys, and you should've put your car in the show :) x
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had so much fun. Looks like a colourful party of sorts :)
ReplyDeleteYour car is so pretty, I can imagine it being a big talking point!
ReplyDeleteYou're such a fox! Of course you would have a car that is as sexy and truly individual as you!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage cars! My husband restored vintage Jaguars and I used to help him... I intend to restore an XKE Jag or a D-type one day!!
..there were many vintage cars at the 50s fair I went to recently and luckily there were many dressed to impress... I too find it disappointing when people don't dress up for such things...
You look fabulous, seemed you all had a great time...I haven't met any other bloggers yet.
I love your outfit, the psychedelic print is just lovely and I love your way of ‘dressing the part.’ You are very much an icon.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful time.
Sorry I am so late on reading this xx
