A Wet Weekend In Wales

We're back!! The Green Man was a blast, folk, prog rock and psychedelia in the beautiful Brecon Beacons. It started to rain the minute we pulled up in Gilbert and continued more or less for the entire weekend, with a brief respite on Sunday afternoon, but armed with waterproofs and wellies and a generous amount of pear cider it was a perfect weekend and we'll definately be going back next year.

With a capacity of just 12,000 the festival is tiny by normal standards.

There's no backstage passes or VIP areas, performers have to camp and queue for the loos with the rest of the hoi-polloi.
The main stage on Friday lunchtime.

My vintage polka dot raincoat accessorised by a handmade floral headband and some false lashes.

The magnificent Black Mountains. We spotted bats, owls and even a Peregrine Falcon.

My favourite acts of the weekend were Doves, Billy Bragg and the awesome Flaming Lips.

Mud-fest

Rain cloud approaching...

The weekend in a nutshell - booze, boots and mud.

Drying off in the awning

Mud glorious mud!

Waiting for Avi Buffalo in the Far-Out Tent.

With a backdrop of amazing pyrotechnics this huge Green Man was set alight at midnight to mark the end of the festival.

  1. I love Doves, seen them live a few times. Always gives me goosebumps.

Great outfits, love that mac. You seem to keep very glam even when in a mud fest. :)

  2. See, that's why I love you, Vix. I would have hated it - the rain, the mud, the tents.... uhaa... I would have moaned and groaned... But you are having a blast of a time - including false eye-lashes (which, btw, I LOVE). xxx

  15. Looks like you had a great time - so glad to see the rain wasn't able to dampen your spirits. We do quite a few bike rallies throughout the year, bit like festivals but with motorbikes! I love camping and rallying and if it rains you just bite the bullet and continue having fun. xxx

  20. Love the polka dot raincoat, practical AND fabulous!

In answer to your questions, yes I will be keeping some of the dresses but I need to finish washing them all then I'll have a good look and do outfit posts on the ones I'm keeping, there's some great maxis in there which I haven't shown.

The hairstyle challenge I'll do in another couple of weeks time, when I have a bit more free time and when I've finished making my hair rat. I'm thinking to make it something like 'if I give you 6 bobby pins, a can of hairspray, a hair band and a comb what kind of beehive can you do?' or something like that. I want to make it for say 5 or 6 days in a row, with each day a different style challenge. How does that sound? Helga! is up for it too btw, yay!

  22. Hi Vix, I don't think you could take a bad photo rain or shine. I particularly like the first one with you and the handsome dude!

I love that you didn't let the rain get in the way and I love the polka dot raincoat tho I thought we might get to see the shower curtain rain gear again!

You're taking part in a big hair challenge? I'd love to see you and Helga with beehive hairdos!

  31. Dear Vixy,
That picture of you chilling & drying out looks as if snapped in a totally different era, you are so good at capturing the vintage look.
Anyone can wear vintage clothes but only a few people have the ability to echo their essence & you my dear is one of the best at doing this.
Congratulations by the way...we both made it on to the ‘CISION’ fashion week top ten UK vintage clothing blogs...roll out the red carpet & pop open the jeroboam of Cristal... cause dahling we've arrived ;)

  33. Oh I haven't been to the Green Man in years...I've just been bemoaning how I don't much like big music festivals, but this one is always a bit special. Look at hose mountains...now I'm homesick!

  34. You always look so happy at festivals :)

The random art looks curiously like a couple of cross country jumps. The course designers do seem to like brush fences and giant ducks! Whereabouts was it held?

I know it's a bit random but I think the drying off photo may be my favourite one of you.

  35. Hi there-sure looks like you both had such a wonderful time and you look gorgeous as usual, great pics!! xx

  36. WOW! All sounds so awesome hon! Especially the Green Man on fire. Is that like The Wicker Man??? Do you remember that movie? It was scary!

You have seriously got the most gorgeous eyes, with or without falsies... you don't often take close-ups and I LOVE these pics!!... and gasp! what are you wearing in the first pic?? Looks amazing! the earrings are divine too!

What wonderful days you lead Vix! xo

  38. I am really pleased that you had a good time even though the weather wasn't playing ball. Thank you for the lovely comment that you left for me...I really enjoyed answering the questions and reading your answers too and I so loved the words of wisdom you would pass on to a child as they are so true and I need to believe in them more as a person and will try to from now on x

  39. Firstly you look so glamorous (even in the rain!) And secondly what a wonderful time you had. I love your hippy chick vibe especially in the first photograph… and your vintage polka dot rain coat is just lovely. Looks like you had a great time xxx

  40. Fab pics, would love to be there one year to experience it all. Not sure how I'd fare without home comforts but the pear cider sure would help! It's really cool that the performers use the same facilities as the festival-goers - very egalitarian. xx

  41. Mud! Nooooo! I would have been miserable! But you look like you had a ball and remained fashionable throughout - hats off - cute raincoat!

  42. Ahhhh, you look so happy and beautiful! I'm off to Twinwoods Festival this weekend, my first (and probably only) festival this year - can't wait!

  43. Looks like a great weekend even if it was raining! Did the flamingo cape get an outing?!

    ReplyDelete
  44. You look so cute in the images! Sorry on the foul weather (or with all the birds is that as well fowl?). Flaming Lips AND Billy Bragg, what fun, and such a small Venue! At least you had a camper (oops, I meant caravan), to hide from rain drops with.

  45. Booze, boots and fun are the bust weekends. Doves are a great band too, sounds like a lovely time. A festival of 12,000 people sounds really nice, the large ones are too commercial.

  46. You looks so pretty in the photos - gorgeous!
