Lady Who Lunches

After last night's Black Country bar crawl the only thing to sort this lady out is goats' cheese, green tomato chutney and rocket served on a crusty bread sandwich with a bowl of home-made chunky chips on the side. Trouble is that although our favourite local has a fine array of local ales and a tempting menu it's also the bar of choice for the footballers' wives and braying wannabes so there's no chance of slinking in wearing last night's beer stained clothing.

Candy stripe sun dress (Second hand shop), Pussybow jacket (Market), Elbow-length kid skin gloves, tooled leather bag, Ted Lapidus sunglasses (all vintage), Cherry red wedges (TopShop about three years ago)

Introducing our beautiful Czech friends to the delights of the traditional British ale house.

Behind the bar at the Brittania, Upper Gornal, Dudley

Roll-ups, pork scratchings and real ale make for happy boys. (Mine's the one in the Tootal scarf)
I scored this 1950's handbag for £1.99 in my local hospice shop a month ago.

Surprisingly despite the 4pm start there were no sore heads this morning, possibly helped by the bag of chips we both scoffed on the way home at 1am this morning.

Hope equally good weekends have been had by all.

  1. Beautiful stripey dress Vix! Elegant every inch. It's been such ages since I had a night out, I don't think I could be relied upon to pull the curtains let alone get myself dressed the next morning!

  12. Fabulous outfit. Always something wonderfully kitsch about candy stripe. There are some fine public houses up your neck of the woods, we are often up there for football. Favourites include the Wellington in Brum and the Vine in West Brom just for the indoor barbeque (though appreciate that might not be on the short list for any vegetarians!) Got to say I have never seen any footballers wives in our regular ales haunts, the WAGs of the midlands clearly have good taste, more CAMRA than Cristal :)

  14. Cheers, all!
    Roo - I love the Wellie in Brum, great boozer. I'll have to give The Vine a try, I'm the only veggie in our gang. The Station in Sutton Coldfield is the WaG place, full of Villa girlies. Great real ale and food tho' (and even a little train set that whizzes around the walls).

    Those Ted Lapidus sunnies are legendary;
    I definitely want a pair of them.
    I sometimes do a bit of random cosmic ordering on my way to the car boot sale & today I ordered Ted Lapidus eyewear...either I didn't work or some lucky sausage got to them before I did...growl! Maybe next week ;)

  18. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
    Real ale = No hangover. Must be the lack of nasties in the brewing process.
