So much for a weekend of gardening, it rained for most of it!
To walk down to the corner shop on Saturday morning I wore my Vinted Free people flares, a vintage Oasis Trading blouse (a £1.24 eBay find in 2017) and one of my many vintage Indian quilted waistcoats.
I'd originally intended to wear this Cowgirl teeshirt with my jeans but it no longer fitted my shoulders.
I'd originally intended to wear this Cowgirl teeshirt with my jeans but it didn't fit like it did last year, swimming between 3 to 4 miles a week has changed my body shape - no hips, massive shoulders (I'm still exactly the same weight, though!)
So I got my scissors out and refashioned my 99p charity shopped teeshirt into a halterneck.
Michael Dobbs wrote the marvellous political thriller, House of Cards which was serialised by the BBC in the 1990s (and also remade fr Netflix) which I was obsessed with. I read Churchill's Triumph a couple of months ago and loved it and this, Winston's War, proved to be even better. Based on real-life events, this is the fictionised account of the friendship between Churchill & the traitor, Guy Burgess in the months leading up him becoming Prime Minister. It blew my mind.
Saturday night's entertainment was Sunlight, a fabulously odd British-made film from 2024 about a woman in a monkey costume taking a roadtrip around America with a suicidal radio presenter to dig up his dead father's body whilst escaping a controlling relationship with her late mother's lover. If, like us, you enjoy weird you'll love it!
Sunday started off sunny and again we walked down to the parcel shop to pick up a couple of Vinted parcels without the need for a brolly. I'd not worn this Naked Generation dress in a while. I'd bought it from eBay for an absolute pittance as the seller has chopped off the tassels and sewn the bodice opening times the neck. A couple of minutes with the seam ripper and a visit to Mrs Kaur for two 75p tassel ties and the dress was as good as new.
Here's what was in my parcels...fingers crossed it won't be long until I can wear them!
After a day of off and on showers, by 3.30 the sun made an appearance and I sat on the lawn with my book with William cuddled on my lap. It wasn't long before I beat a hasty retreat as we were hammered by yet a other thunderstorm.
Not sure what the watch next, we decided to give Broadchurch a go despite my David Tennant phobia. Yes, he's still annoyingly twitchy and shouty but the plot's gripping and there's a great cast.
Cats know things and taking a cue from William who was basking outside when we got home, I spent an hour or so in the garden, doing a bit of weeding before burying my nose in my book.
It's all looking very pretty!

Sunlight sounds like a very surreal film, I may have to give it a watch. Funnily enough I paused while scrolling and was almost about to watch Broadchurch on Sunday, but I changed tack and started watching Professor T instead. The weather has been ridiculous hasn't it, I just cannot keep up.
ReplyDeleteIt's a mad film, Sue! I loved it! I watched the original Belgian series of professor T but didn't get into the British version although it got rave reveiews, maybe I ought to try again! xxx
DeleteOh, you have been up to so many things. Adoring what you did with the summer version of the Cowgirl tee! The film you mentioned looks intriguing. Awesome to see your beautiful outfits. I hope you had a great outing! Love the title to this post! ππππππππ
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ellie! xxx
DeleteBroadchurch was shocking and heart wrenching. I like David Tenant though know what you mean. Olivia Coleman and Jodi Whitaker are both phenomenal. What a save on the Cowgirl shirt. Its cold and wet, but I've help tomorrow to get some planting done and am trying to decide what colors I want for flowers. I don't know names but love pretty much all flowers especially to see when I wake up.
ReplyDeletePhew! Wasn't it just? IWe watched the final episode last night and can totally see why it was so popular.
DeleteOur part of the UK is currently basking in record-breaking temperatures for May and i'm loving it. I'm like you, I visit a garden centre and get overwhelmed with choice. There's some people who can restrain themselves and choose plants with colours that work well together, I just want all of them! xxx
Your garden is looking glorious. Everything is looking very green all of a sudden, and the hedgerows here are growing apace. The cow parsley is spilling over onto the lanes and footpaths.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe at how you have refashioned that t-shirt - inspired! Although, I'm still trying to get used to seeing you wearing jeans.
I watched Broadchurch when it first came out, and it had me gripped, as well. And I'm slightly relieved that I'm not the only one with that particular phobia. I still think he is a great actor, however. X
Thanks, Jules! The bottom of our garden is starting to become a field of cow parsely, I loved looking at at it from the bedroom window.
DeleteI do love a no-sew challenge. I'll be scouring the charity shops for teeshirts now! I used to wear jeans all the time (early noughties) and it does shock people when they see me in them now.
We finished Broadchurch last night, what an emotional watch it was! xxx
Your David Tennant phobia, lol. I never thought of him as shouty before but you know what, you are so right. Your flowers are coming along beautifully.
ReplyDeleteYou won't be able to see DT in the same light now, Hena! xxx
DeleteHi Vix, as ever your personal take on cowgirl chic is spot on. It's such a feminine but also very wearable style I think and lends itself perfectly to layering- a chance to incorporate so many of your favourite pieces. I particularly like the Naked Generation dress. I was pleased to see Nina Conti's monkey making an appearance. Have you seen the videos on Youtube where she and Monkey visit a psychiatrist together? A bit quirky maybe but all good fun. X
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alysia! I loved the font on that teesirt and was desperate to rescue it from the charity shop rag bag!
DeleteThat Naked Generation dress had been overlooked for far too long, its one of those dresses that tends to get overlooked in my wardrobe and when I wear it I wonder why I dodn't put it on more often!
Nina Conti is really funny, I love her quirky sense of humour. xxx
The garden looks beautiful Vix. We only stole your sunshine momentarily as the past few days have been grey and wet again. I’m keeping everything crossed for the weekend! I re-watched ‘The Darkest Hour’ the other night. I’d forgotten what a great film it was. A very interesting point in our history! Great work on the halter top refashion xxx
ReplyDeleteI hope you're enjoying the sunshine now, Louise! It's been glorious here since Friday and I've spent most of it outside.
DeleteThe Darkest Hour is incredible, I love Gary Oldman! Have you seen Munich: The Edge of War? Jeremy Irons is uttelry brilliant as Neville Chamberlain. xxx
What a fantastic idea turning your Tee into halterneck! Looks amazing on you! (but I shivered at the thought of wearing it as it's still 12 degrees here in W.Wales) π₯Ά I absolutely love the apple green dress with pink flowers πΊπΊπΊπΊ Rachael x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rachael! I was tempted to wear it as a vest, it wsa so miserable last week. I hope you're enjoying this glorious weather now! xxx
DeleteLoving the re-fashioned cowgirl t-shirt! I'm a definite "fiddler" with clothes and am often changing them too. I really love your Free People flares - I have some from J Brand via the charity shop - perfect for that 70s vibe. Great outfits all around.
ReplyDeleteSunlight sounds really interesting too. I like weird.
Thanks, Tanya Eve! J Brabd are great jeans, that was a good find! I do love a clothing refashion. The font on that teeshirt was so good, I didn't want it not to be in my wardrobe! xxx
DeleteI wish I had your figure - but I would not be able to maintain it as you do !
ReplyDeleteI am completing this week on my Bristol house - the developer don’t want searches which is amazing - so I will be saying farewell on Friday after almost 40 years .
I am staying with my daughter whilst her sale goes through - and as my new place completes - currently problems with a restricted covenant which I am am leaving to the Solicitor to sort
My Greek purchase is complicated , but have dusted off my Irish passport , and have applied now for an investment visa which should be faster
In other news , I have had a Consultant review of my painful knee and, as expected , full
Replacement needed on both . The Consultant said he coils not believe I had lasted as long as I had - I am a priority, but no time line and the knowledge that I could have the first procedure in the next 10 days and with the same Consultant, if o went private - which I may now decide to do
Will look forward to your visit !
Siobhan x
I'd swap my figure for an Irish passport and the chance to live in Greece, Siobhan!
DeleteIt's so exciting how quickly things are moving . I hope that resitricted convenant is sorted by the solicitor and doesn't throw to much of a spanner in the works. Jon'ss an avid reader of Keep Talking Greece and has looked into those investment visas, they sound like a good idea. Isn't it brilliant that the Greeks have waived the biometric craziness for the time being? Not long till my next visit and I'm already excited!
It sounds like we both have the same freakishly high pain tolerance and don't even notice we;ve got a problem until we're virtually incapacitated. I wouldn't bkame you one bit for going private and getting your knees sorted asap. I should get my results this week and hopefully get a treatmant plan in action.
My visit? Yes, please!
Best of luck this week, my love! xxx
Aw, sweet William cuddled up with you while you read - isn't that the best? I had Barnabas on my lap the other day, out on the deck, and it was heaven. So good to see all this wonderful vintage Indian fabrics being used and loved. And good on you for making your Cowgirl work for you! Woo, here's to big muscles!
ReplyDeleteI love a lap cat and having the excise not to do anything as I've been trapped, Sheila! xxx
DeletePity about the constant rain but at least it is doing your garden good as it looks just lovely. Well down on making the cowgirl tshirt a halter , it would be a shame to cover up those swimming shoulders.
ReplyDeleteAfter al that rain we're now basking in a heatwave, Jill! I'm loving every minute! xxx
DeleteVix, I read your review of "Sunlight" three times -- and I still can't believe this film was a) funded* b) produced and c) distributed. It reads like an old film-school game of writing plot elements on scraps of paper, popping them into a bowl and teams competing to write plots from whatever 4 scraps they draw from the bowl.
ReplyDelete* Naming an "Executive Producer" on the pitch might be a clue...
-- Beth
I must admit, I love Absurdist films, Beth! Nina Conti is a well known British comedian/ventriloquist and despite normally not liking ventriloquists she's really funny. Christopher Guest is an interesting character, isn't he? A peer of the realm with a hugely impressive back catalogue (Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride) and married to Jamie Lee Curtis! xxx
DeleteLove those Free People flares and how you styled them!, looking fab!. Also lovely in your cowgirl chic outfit, and so cool that you even shared your 'inspiration' pics!. That dress you restored is totally gorgeous too (isn't it amazing how many clothes are discarded because of minor issues that could be fixed easily?).
ReplyDeleteAlways interesting to read about what you've been watching and reading, that 'Sunlight' movie looks really different and I probably will give it a try.
I have to confess that I have a weakness for David Tennant (since Dr.Who)!
besos
Thanks, Monica! Its crazy how many clothes end up listed on Vinted for tiny issues like a hem that's come down or a missing button things that can be fixed in minutes.
DeleteSunlight was really quirky and fun, we really enjoyed it!
I never saw DT in Dr Who but enjoyed The Hack and Broadchurch! xxx
I recall wearing halter tops.
ReplyDeleteI still do! xxx
DeleteYour garden looks beautiful. Hope you're enjoying the weather and making the most! How clever to make the halter neck from the t shirt. It was cool before and even more so now! Know you like good music, Vix. Do you listen to Ren? We love his stuff. Louise (Mids) x x x
ReplyDeleteHello Louise! Thanks so much much for the recommendation, I've been listebing to Ren this weekend, I wasn't aware of him!
DeleteHpw fabulous is this weather? I've been up since 5am, anxious not to miss any of it! xxx
Hi vix, lovely outfits, the Naked Generation dress was a lucky find. The heatwave is a shock, even though we just got back from corfu! I think, like you, I will be stepping up my swimming sessions this week. Betty :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome home, Betty! Isn't this weather gorgeous? I bet it makes coming home a bt more bearable. I'm dying to hear about your trip.
DeleteI managed to swim 4 miles last week - the pool always seems quiet when the weather's good. I love seeing the sunshine streaming though the windows and pretending I'm in the sea! xxx
Excellent T-shirt refashion there - show off what the swimming's given you.
ReplyDeleteI used to love going to West Bay, but it definitely got lots busier after Broadchurch was filmed there!
Great DIY halter neck refresh! It looks great paired with jeans.
ReplyDeleteAlways lovely to see your cat...and the other cat (in the previous post).
I've learnt that "my" cat has other three full time owners and three different names (Bella, Felix being the two I learnt so far). I was also surprised that it is a tomcat, I was sure it was a girl. The more I learnt about this cat, the more fascinated with it I become. He used to belong to a man that died last year but has always had multiple owners. All the tourists seem to know him too. I don't know how old he is, but I bet he is at least six or seven years old.
