Poor Jon's undergoing some dental work and had to have two teeth extracted this morning (as well as four stitches!) so I went swimming solo. The alarm never went off so I didn't wake up till 6:35. I managed to wash, get dressed, feed the felines, make Jon a cup of tea and briskly walk the mile into town, getting into the pool at 7.10am. Mile completed, I was back in the house by 8.15am, just in time to wish Jon good luck with his ordeal. Swimming gives me so much energy, after breakfast I whizzed off five festival trading applications and spent the rest of the day, between nursing duties and walking to the corner shop (to buy Jon some marshmallows and Angel Delight!), sorting out our latest chazza shop finds.
Original 1960s Harrington jacket, Jeff Banks wool waistcoat, new Converse in woven denim.
1990s rayon dress, current Adidas, 1980s jacket
Cropped fake fur jacket, 1980s Indian cotton patchwork midi skirt, Miss Selfridge sweatshirt (with store tags still attached)
Both of these Fatface shirts are still on their website, White Stuff velvet blazer.
Jon was amazed to find these brand new Vans, he's got them in another colour way and paid a fortune for them! Also an official Barcelona scarf (and the first football stadium I ever visited!), Converse Vs Comme Des Garcons and some purple suede platforms from Office.
I found a few things for me, too. Here's my keepers and what they look like on.
Tiktok has inspired to post daily "Fit Checks"(that's showing off your outfit in kid speak) I love how there's so many alternative girls (and boys) on there who couldn't give a f*ck about trends, with the exception of the handful of women whose blogs I follow, most style blogs are all about what's in fashion, what's age appropriate (yawn) and promoting stuff they'd had for free.
A vintage Indian maxi and my secondhand Suzani coat for a morning of charity shopping.
A vintage Adini maxi and bruise-coloured Rawhide coat for swimming and a Spoons breakfast.
Vintage India Imports of Rhode Island maxi dress and an Anokhi jacket for dropping some books off at the out of town charity shop (and coming back empty-handed!)
A vintage embroidered Pakistani maxi dress for dropping my Vinted parcels off at various points on our 5 mile walk. I'd had a wardrobe rejig the previous afternoon and sold everything I listed in 24 hours!
A vintage psych print maxi dress for swimming, Spoons and a look around the chazzas.
An All About Audrey recycled cotton sari blouse and a vintage maxi skirt for a day spent sorting out the stockroom.
A charity shopped mini dress (Pull & Bear with £29.99 labels still attached) and a vintage silk scarf for a very wet walk down to the swimming pool.
The Seraphina, London £325 cutwork blouse I found in the £2.99 charity shop last year with a vintage Samuel Sherman woven maxi skirt and a charity shopped Moroccan belt by Jigsaw for a day at home.
A rare 1960s Marion & David Donaldson maxi dress, made in Scotland from Liberty fabric (spotted on Vinted for £20, there's another on Etsy for £395)...I wore this in Rome and also for a Spoons all-dayer.
A vintage Mayur midi dress with some big leather stompy boots which a man stopped to tell me I shouldn't wear them as they weren't feminine! What a dinosaur...are there really still men out there who think women dress to please them?!
Contemporary Monsoon blouse (well, six years old!) with a vintage silk maxi skirt for my first day home from Rome.
Before I sign off to resume my nursing duties, here's three amazing TV series you really must watch...Small Prophets is brilliant, we watched the entire series in one night. If you enjoyed The Dectectorists, also by Mackenzie Crook, you'll adore this this quirky offbeat British comedy (on the BBC).
Set during the Cold War, the uber stylish Ponies, is a gripping spy series set in 1970s Moscow. The soundtrack and the clothes are fabulous, the plot is full of twists & turns and stars, amongst others, British actors Adrian Lester, Emilia Clark and Harriet Walter. It's on Netflix and we watched it over two nights.
Frustratingly, only one episode of Under Salt Marsh is aired each week on Sky Atlantic so no bingeing. Starring not only Jonathan Pryce but also the phenomenal Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone) and the brilliant Rafe Spall, it's a compelling British cop thriller set in North Wales. Spall plays a detective from the Black Country and his accent is perfect (in real life his mum and his partner are both Black Country born and bred!)
We're currently rewatching The English, one of the greatest Neo Westerns ever made. Emily Blunt is magnificent, Rafe Spall is truly terrifying and Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer) is extremely easy on the eye!
Thanks for reading!

How rude of that man to say your boots aren’t feminine! Like you say, you aren’t dressing for him (or men in general), bloody fossil! Your outfits all look tremendous. I don’t TikTok. I don’t even Instagram anymore but I am addicted to Pinterest. Sometimes I see pictures of you on there xxx
ReplyDeleteBloody fossil indeed! I thought those kind of men had all died out but occasionally they rear they ugly heads.
DeleteI only ever use Pinterest to make private boards of my travel wardrobe, how funny that I popped up in your feed! I can't even access IG anymore, its been so long since I looked at it, it seems to have forgotten who I am! xxx
I love that you're on YouTube shorts, I'm sometimes there because I follow a few painters there, and now I also follow you. I don't post there myself, maybe some day! It's great seeing videos of your outfits because on video I can get a much better sense of the fabrics and how they move. You vintage check fits are gorgeous, keep them up.
ReplyDeleteSo, great you do your swims! Swimming is amazing. Today I took off my sneakers and put my feet in the sea. I walked barefoot a bit and on the rocks and then walked in the little natural sea pools. I can't wait to start swimming in the sea again.
A few days ago, I watched a YouTube video of a lady that gets up and runs 5 km in -60 Celsius temperatures in Siberia....and then she breaks the ice to go swimming in that cold. I will never ever complain about being cold again.
Hello Ivana! I wsh you'd post some of your travels on YouTube, you live in such a beautiful place and your photos are always wonderful, I'd love to see some videos!
DeleteI'm envious of you paddling in the sea, I absolutely love my thrice weekly swims in the local pool but nothing beats the sea! xxx
That's not a bad idea. I was thinking of posting my videos combined with my paintings. I don't want to post myself, though. I have a feeling my students would be shocked to find me there on YouTube. There are shocked enough that I seem to know what YouTube shorts are and how they work!:) I swear they think anyone over 20 is a dinosaur. :) On the other hand, I might start posting about grammar. That would drive them off Shorts ha ha ha ha
DeleteSending our love to Jon, hoping he’s on the mend now. Next up have to say we’ve resisted binge watching Small Prophets as we are savouring it. It’s hilarious. We are constantly quoting half the script, especially the ‘do you sell buckets’ one 😂
ReplyDeleteLovely to see all your beautiful outfits, you brighten a dull day for sure my friend xxx
Aww, thanks so much both! He's doing really well, he was so traumatised on Wednesday morning, I thought he was going to pass out!
DeleteWe killed ourselves laughing over the buckets scene in Small Prophets. It's so much like working in retail. I remember all the tones we did the fairs and people would ignore our male mannequin, the three rails of mens clothes and the massive neon sign saying "We sell menswear" and ask us if any of the stalls sold mens clothes!!! Xxx
Fabulous haha xx
DeleteI loved Ponies, I downloaded the soundtrack to listen to on my train journey to work
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for season 2! The soundtrack is outstanding, what a great idea to download it, I might have to follow suit. Xxx
DeleteSmashing, as ever. Wishing Jon a speedy and complete recovery! If you haven't seen it, you might just wind up crushing on the all-too short lived series, Poker Face, w Natasha Lyonne.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Elizabeth! I've not seen Poker Face but have found it on Netflix and bookmarked it for our next watch, it looks and sounds fantastic and a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, too! Xxx
DeleteLove, love, love your at home outfit. Oh, and your tiktok/you tube, Fantastic. Because I live in a polynesian country, I've decided that wearing a top and a lavalava wrapped around the waist, is the way to go for at home gear.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, my friend! I love the sound of your house outfit, it's wonderful to embrace your cultural heritage. If I did that I'd be walking around in tweed, wellies and a flat cap! Xxx
DeleteIm really enjoying Saltmarsh (although the lead character does a bit too much botox pouting and when doing a 'tearful' scene the makeup artist has overdone the red undereye (Biba?) eye liner! despite that I do love this series but wish we didn't have to wait ages beween episodes. I will take a look at Ponies, I usually like whatever you like! Tiktok is great, I often watch your posts on there; I am also currently into Youtube vlogs - there are so many out there I get totally lost in them! Im off for a swim soon and a birthday weekend coming up with TWO trips to Brighton (two sons, two mum and son days out lol!!). Hope Jons teeth don't hurt - get some clove oil in case they do. Betty x
ReplyDeleteIsn't Salt Marsh fantastic? I know what you mean about Kelly Reilly, she's always been a bit pouty but she's a fantastic actress underneath that fringe!
DeletePonies is great fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously either. The soundtrack and the clothes are so cool!
You can understand why people get addicted to scrolling, I have to step away from TikTok and all the "what I found in the charity shop" videos!
Two trips to Brighton with the boys, that's going to be fun. I think you should force them to take you into Audrey's and treat you to something pretty for your birthday.
Great suggestion regarding the clove oil, I'd forgotten about it! Xxx
I don't EVEN own 'girl-shoes' as I Stomp Around in boots with my dresses, gah like you say what a dinosaur! 😁
ReplyDeleteKeep stompin' !
Dressed look better with stompy boots, nothing worse than a face contorted with pain from walking around in silly shoes! Xxx
DeleteOh, my goodness..such glorious finds! Amazing what swimming can do! As well. Lovely attire and oh so inspiring! I hope Jon is doing OK after that. Thanks for your comments. Wishing you a great weekend ahead. We have snow in the forecast. I hope we get it. We've been in the fire zone lately, here in midlands of the states. Horrible storms to the right of us and rain drenching the west coast. All the best to your Daily Fits!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ellie! It's the school holidays here this week and I think everyone uses the opportunity to have a clear out, lots of goodies in the charity shops.
DeleteI'm sorry you've had snow, we were forecast it for this week too but luckily other than a flurry it had t stuck! Xxx
ReplyDeleteViolet suits you so well, and the look with the mini dress is amazing!
You've found some great things again! I love these reddish-orange winter boots.
Now that you're writing about it, I'm wondering if TikTok might be something for me. Not to post, but to browse.
Thanks, Andrea. I'm all about purple and violet at the moment, I've just had my nailed painted in a delicious plum!
DeleteI didn't think I'd like that mini dress on but the shape is really flattering.
I love TikTok, once the algorithm has worked you out there's loads of cool women to follow, some lovely makeup tutorials, too! Xxx
Yes, that man can get but. I'm sorry for Jon and send wishes for speedy recovery. Ivan relate lately to a mouth of pain. He's in good hands. I need to find a swimming situation. It's a great exercise and I could get lost in a pool to my own peace.
ReplyDeleteYes, dinosaurs still roam the earth!
DeleteJon's been really brave, he's not a fan of the dentist at the best of times but 48 hours later and he's back to swimming and eating solid food...hoorah!
I hope you manage to find a swimming solution. We're so lucky to have municipal baths in Walsall! X
Thanks for the glorious Rome travelogue, Vix - such a tonic.
ReplyDeleteI hope Jon gets well soon after the dental trauma - Angel Delight made me laugh (comfort food indeed!!).Your outfits are chefs kiss as always - that Marion & David Donaldson piece is sublime.
As to "I shouldn't wear them as they weren't feminine" re your boots - how very rude (and ridiculous). I hope you gave him epic side-eye and reciprocal fashion tips lol.
Top swag - I'm giving more than getting at the mo - hardly charity shopping at all as I can't wander around for long - but still managing to clear the decks slowly. I love that patchwork skirt you found - oooh hurry up Spring - I've been rummaging through Summer stuff this afternoon, trying on frocks lol. Hopefully I can get out of these unfeminine boots and into - oh wait - my stompy summer shoes ....
Elaine Anon
Thanks, Elaine! I'm a useless nurse and Jon's an awful patient but the Angel Delight and jelly soon put a smile on his face!
DeleteI thought I was seeing things when that dress popped up on Vinted, I've hung it on the wall to admire it when I'm not wearing it.
Men of a certain age and their deluded idea that we dress to please them. I know I'm a female, I don't need a pair of shoes to prove it!
That skirt is so pretty and was snaffled from the same rail for buttons, message me if you're interested, it would look great with man-repelling footwear and a healthy slice of f*ck you feminist attitude! Xxx
Oh, I love everything! Especially the fur hats and long dresses. Look at those legs! Very mod. Great colors for you, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stephanie! X
DeleteI've loved the Rome blogs, Vicky. Lots of tips for my trip.
ReplyDeleteYour clothes are fabulous, and I'm loving the YouTube shorts. I've struggled with Tiktok as I've jyst been getting loads of rubbish coming up.
We're off to Stratford for some day dancing on Sunday, so hoping this wretched rain will give it a rest! Xx
Hello, Annie! I bet you're excited about Rome, I'd go back in a heartbeat!
DeleteIt takes a while for TikTok to sort out your algorithm but once it dores, its really good. My feeds full of quirky types and charity shop finds.
Have a lovely time in Stratford and I hope the dancing does the trick and shakes off the winter blues! xxx
Poor Jon! I hope he's recovering well from his ordeal.
ReplyDeleteAnd how incredibly generous that man was, to give his expert opinion on your boots. I think I'd have told him to 'go away' :)
Thanks, Jules. He's doing really well although he's missing his crisps!
DeleteThat man! Turn's out he's one of the "protect our women and girls" knuckledraggers, says it all really! xxx
Loved seeing all your outfits in this post especially the vintage embroidered Pakistani maxi dress. You hair looks so gorgeous curly. X
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jess! xxx
DeleteI hope Jon has recovered sufficiently. I'm about to suffer the same fate tomorrow but only 1 tooth and no stitches (hopefully!).I don't do TikTok and only YouTube occasionally so am thankful that you're still here to catch up with. Haven't seen Small Prophets yet but I loved the Detectorists. Been avidly watching the ice skating from Milan which was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annie! I hope you survived your dental ordeal and aren't feeling too sore.
DeleteJon's comfort viewing was rewatching The Detectorists for the umpteenth time, you're in for a treat with Small Prophets!
I didn't see the ice skating but I loved that long distance thingy with the skiing and shooting ! xxx
Hi Vix. You are spoiling us again with a superb selection of your wardrobe favourites. I love love love your Anokhi jacket and a close second is the Adini dress with suede coat. Glorious colours, patterns and textures. The Pakistani dress is a stunning piece too. I like how you are happy to share your favourite pieces with us and are not drawn into that silly current way of thinking that the latest passing trend is better than what you already own and love. I received some compliments yesterday on some favourites of mine- a red Jaeger wool coat and a black wool Boden sweater dress with black suede boots and some brooches- all bought from charity shops. That was a stupidly brave man to tell you not to wear your stompy boots! I get local women in my village telling me that my boots are not practical for walking here. Somehow or other I have managed so far! 😉
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Alysia! I feel sorry for women who are forever chasing fashion trends, it smacks of insecurity. I know I've got a lot of clothes but I wear them for years on end and don't mind how many times I'm seen in them - even something as simple as changing the jeweelery or the boots makes something look fresh and different!
DeleteI love the sound of the red and black outfit you wore, so striking on a grey day and of course, the qauality of both Boden & Jaeger is always great!
I don't get the need for people to offer unwarrented advice, its enough to tell someone that you think they look good, if they can't think of something positive to say, they should keep their mouths shut! xxx
Always lovely to see your magnificent maxi dresses and even more magnificent jewellery so fabulously styled!. So inspiring!. I'm truly in love with that Suzani coat and vintage indian dress, wow, that's a particularly gorgeous ensemble!. Looking always fab in mini dresses too!. And obviously, those dinosaurs who dare to comment on chunky shoes not being 'feminine' are ridiculous. I can't summarize my opinion on this without some swearing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for those little videos and music! and those series look really appealing too!
besos
Thanks so much, Monica! I love how that Suzani coat looks over the Indian dress, the colours just pop!
DeleteYes, its hard bot to swear when comfronted with such idiotic members of the male species, lets hope they soon become extinct! xxx
