Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing, Baby.....

I promised you I'd share my other Vinted purchase and here it is, only another vintage Afghan coat.  Of course I didn't need one but when it's £15 I'd have been crazy not to click the BUY button!

The kids are under the misguided opinion that those modern synthetic suede coats with a fake fur trim are Afghans....real ones are made from goatskin, embroidered and were handmade in Afghanistan in the late 1960s and 1970s.

Still, as long as they believe that and keep buying them from Sh*** (the Chinese fast fashion brand) there's all the more for me!

I wore my new old coat to walk down to the swimming pool on Friday morning along with this green velvet maxi dress, made in India in the 1970s.

Friday was nail day and, inspired by this paint advert I spotted in a hip interiors magazine, I went for an another array of colours....

This could be my favourite combination yet! Why have one shade of pink when you can have five?!

On Saturday I wore this amazing Annacat waistcoat, something that's not seen the light if day in years. It's a rare and extremely collectable vintage London-made label that commands £££s. I bought it from a flea market about 12 years ago.

Vintage label porn, I know you love it!

We saw two films this weekend, both based on true life stories. I Swear, a British film about a young lad with Tourette's and Song Sung Blue, an American film about a Neil Diamond tribute act. Both were wonderful and will make you laugh and cry in equal measure. Highly recommended.

Today, I've been wearing this vintage Indian block printed beauty I bought from the rastro (flea market) in Puerto de la Cruz for €4 in 2024, along with another of my vintage Afghans.

I've almost finished reading Dictator. That's young Julius Caesar keeping his eye on Robert Harris's book.

Cicero, the central character, said many wise things in his life but one of my favourites has to be:

I have put out my books and now my house has a soul.

Et me, Cicero!

See you soon. xxx

  1. Love the nails. I'm thinking of a good splurge on a pedicure, well, with a gift card I've yet to use before my trip even if too cold to really swim. I plan to dip my toes in regardless. I'm too hard on my hands so will just get a good polish and do my own fingernails but hope to look 1/4 as glam as you touring the City.

  4. The nails look amazing! I have horrid nails but I still bite them a bit as I hate how they feel when longer!
The new Afghan is beautiful! I would love to find one like that one or one of the sleeveless ones. I never forget, as a teenager, I fell in love with a fake Afghan in a Romford shop and I didn't buy it and it had gone when I went back to get it and I was disappointed for years after! xx

    1. Thanks, Kezzie! I had horrible nails for years, really brittle from childhood eczema. It does take a while to get used to the length, but after a certain point I get Charlotte to file them down as I struggle to do up zips or fasten necklaces.
You've got that gorgeous Toscana lamb gilet, haven't you? xxx

  5. I’m just putting it out there, I am green with jealousy of your Afghan coat collection. There, I said it! I have a lovely suede gilet I got from Vinted last year, but it’s definitely not an Afghan. Beautiful collection my dear and glorious outfits as always xxx

    1. You'll find one eventually, Louise. I suggested that Betty search "sheepskins" on Vinted, its also a good idea to look in the men's section on there, Jon's found a couple of authentic beauties on there which we've sold at festivals. xxx

  6. Hey, I'm one of those kids who call the modern coats Afghan coats! Except mine are from Tree of Life, better quality than Shein, I think.
Love the different shades of pink on your nails. X

  7. Great buy with your new to you Afghan coat. I had a fab one back in the sixties which I practically never took off. When I first got it, it did whiff a bit and my older sister used to moan at me as it made our shared bedroom a bit fragrant, but hey ho the smell soon wore off. I loved it, the embroidery was so amazing. Isn't Robert Harris incredible I just love his writing. My Husband and I saw him give a talk on his work and how he researches for writing a book at Rye Festival a couple of years ago. He is as nice as you would think. Very approachable and down to earth. 1. Haha! My Mum's wasn't the most fragrant, I think that's why Dad chucked it in the vbin after she died (to my eternal regret!)
Robert Harris is such a great writer, I'm envious that you went to see him talking, he comes across so well in interviews! xxx

  9. Oh, so many pretty things. Thanks for your reviews, too. Love the coat and the festive colors. Oh, those nails, beautiful! πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—I'm getting over the flu. The meds for it really hit me hard. Slowly I'm getting back to being me.....surprisingly, I took the vaccinations and still got it. It seems to be going around the states rampantly.

  10. We went to see Song Sung Blue yesterday. Absolutely loved it and as I had no idea what to expect it was a treat to watch a film that wasn't full of filthy language.

  11. I love a post full of Afghan coat loveliness! I have resisted the temptation to buy a copy (AAA for example) as they just aren't the real deal of quality embroidery and weight - one will turn up one day Im sure. You're having a lot of fun with nail colours, they look great. Im having my biabs taken off to give mine a little rest and see how I get on for a bit. Betty

    1. Hi Betty, I agree, the synthetic ones don't age well. I bought one from River island in their sale in 2000, it started to look like a dish rag after just one winter! Take your time, the perfect one will turn up - although it's worth searching for "sheepskins" on Vinted as a lot of the sellers don't sem to know what they are! xxx

  16. When I downsized I re-homed a tall bookcase -- and several boxes of books that had fit onto those shelves. Alas, I did not sever my relationship with AmazonPrime Books...which now explains why two of my "end tables" are built of stacks of books.
